The Galaxy S25 Edge finally has a release date and it's sooner than you'd expect
While the top smartphones of the year have been impressive, I'm looking forward to Samsung's ultra-slim Galaxy S25 Edge. I didn't get the idea of slim phones at first, but after living with a competitor from Infinix, I truly am looking forward to it. And finally, after weeks of speculation and premature leaks, we finally know when the Galaxy S25 Edge will come out. The good news is that it's sooner than you'd expect.
Samsung has officially confirmed that the Galaxy S25 Edge will launch during a virtual Unpacked event on 12 May at 1am BST/8pm ET. This unsociable hour technically pushes the launch to the 13th for those in the UK. There will be a live stream on YouTube you can tune into, but I suspect most people will catch up the next day. We'll bring you all the latest as it unfolds.
While we've been using the leaked name of Galaxy S25 Edge for months now, Samsung confirmed this in a blog post announcing the device's launch. The tech giant also confirmed that the handset will come with a 200MP camera system on the rear. As for other devices at the event, it doesn't appear as though there will be any further announcements.

Keen to get your hands on this slim Jim? Apparently the phone will roll-out to purchase gradually, with Europe first on the list. Whether the handset will show up in physical shops that same month is anyone's guess, but at least we've got a launch date for now.
I'm excited for this smartphone to arrive. Rumours point to a 6.7-inch display, Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, 12GB of RAM, and your choice of 256 or 512GB of storage. It's set to come in three very serious-sounding colours: Titanium Silver, Titanium Jetblack, and Titanium Icyblue. Expect it to cost around €1249, which translates to about $1350 or £1080 – slightly more than the Galaxy S25+.

Nothing's next product isn't another smartphone – and it's coming sooner than you think
See-through gadget specialist Nothing announced that it's about to release a brand new product that isn't a smartphone – over-ear headphones. While the brand already offers multiple wireless earbud options, this would be the brands first attempt at larger cans. The headphones, dubbed Headphone (1) are landing sooner than you'd expect. 1 July, to be precise. That's the same day the much-anticipated Phone (3) is meant to arrive. The launch will happen in London, of course, where the fledgling brand is based. The event will also be live-streamed from 6pm BST/1pm ET, so you can watch along from home. Announced on stage by Carl Pei at SXSW London, Nothing's Headphones (1) were officially confirmed. But that's about all we got. No features, no specs, no pictures of the cans – just a name and a date. As for pricing, we'd expect somewhere in the mid-range mark, since Nothing has departed from going super-budget. If I had to guess, I'd say they'll be around the $199-$249 mark, since the Ear (2) buds launched for $149. We scored the Nothing Ear (2) four stars out of five in our review. We noted that they 'deliver the sound quality and noise cancelling we expect for the cash – after some tweaking – while improving on the original in all the right places.' And the more recent, budget-friendly Ear (a) buds scored a full five stars for their 'colourful, cut-price take on Nothing's usual formula that goes one better in a few key areas.' Given this track record, I expect good things from the upcoming over-ears. Fortunately, there's not long to wait. And we'll bring you the latest news about Nothing's headphones when they launch on 1 July.

OnePlus 13S is a smaller, cheaper top-end smartphone – but there's a catch
OnePlus has debuted another version of the OnePlus 13 flagship smartphone to follow up the main handset as well as the upper mid-range OnePlus 13R. The new version is the OnePlus 13S but it comes with a pretty big caveat – you can only get it in India at the moment. That's great news if you live there, but it won't be launching in the US or Europe at present. Although it's smaller, I think this latest OnePlus phone still can hardly be called 'compact', with a 6.32in Full HD+ LTPO AMOLED screen and it should be super-bright, with peak output of 1600nits. But at a time when many top-end phones are pushing 7in, it is smaller than many. OnePlus 13S comes in Green Silk, Black Velvet, and Pink Satin finishes. The standard model is ₹54,999 but initial deals will get it down to ₹49,999. The 512GB version is ₹59,999. You also get Nord Buds 3 free if you pre-order. It's also available from Amazon India, too. The 13S has top-end Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite hardware, fast-charging 12GB memory and 256GB of storage as standard, though you can get a 512GB variant. As such I'd consider that it sits in between the 13 and 13R hardware-wise, so is best thought of as a smaller version of the OnePlus 13 rather than the 13R. Battery life should be pretty tasty, with a large 5850mAh battery paired with 80W wired charging. There's no wireless charging present. Cameras should be excellent, too, with a 50MP Sony LYT-700 wide main lens with optical image stabilisation (OIS) as well as autofocus. The second is a a 50MP telephoto sensor with 2x optical zoom – some reports suggest this has come from Samsung. The selfie camera is 32MP. As I reported last week, the phone's new AI features will come to future OnePlus phones in the US and Europe including the new Plus Key (a multipurpose button you can configure) to replace the classic OnePlus alert slider. Plus Mind collates anything important you want to retain, such as a flight confirmation or webpage and you can use OnePlus AI to recall or share it. Does Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 7 Ultra tease mean a cheaper foldable is also on the way?
Phone teaser campaigns are usually pretty straightforward, but Samsung's latest is more of a head scratcher. The firm has revealed its working on the 'Next Chapter of Ultra' – except that next chapter is going to be a foldable. Does that mean phone fans can expect the Galaxy Z Fold 7 Ultra to be even more of a flagship than its predecessor – or will it be a change in name only, to free up some space for a more affordable book-style foldable phone beneath it in the line-up? The teaser, which landed in tech press inboxes a little out of the blue, isn't giving much away. There's no talk of reveal dates, or even hinting at the next Galaxy Unpacked event (where the new phones are almost certain to make their debut). Samsung instead mentions 'industry-leading hardware, cutting-edge performance and seamless AI integration optimised for the foldable format'. Accompanying silhouette images clearly show a book-style foldable: first closed, then part-open, and finally fully unfolded. There's no mention of specifics like screen size, but the rumour mill expects the new phone to be larger both inside and out than the last-gen phone. How the Ultra-badged Fold will differ from the current Galaxy Z Fold6 remains to be seen – as will whether the new phone will borrow any of its hardware from the Galaxy S25 Ultra. I don't see how the firm could re-use the S25's camera setup without adding thickness, which is something the rest of the foldable industry has designated enemy number one. The Z Fold6 is now looking pretty portly versus the Oppo Find N5 and Honor Magic V3, so dimensions are one area the firm has to tackle if it wants to take the hardware top spot. A bigger capacity battery is a must, too, now that Chinese rivals have adopted silicon-carbon tech. Personally I think this goes one of two ways. Either we get a Galaxy Z Fold 7 and a Z Fold Ultra in mid-July at the next Samsung Unpacked event – or the Ultra will be the only Fold variant that appears there, leaving the door open for a more affordable Fan Edition variant later down the line. It's what Samsung is reportedly doing with the Galaxy Z Flip series. A Z Flip SE is widely expected to arrive this year, bringing clamshell-style phones to more price-conscious customers – and giving the firm something to directly rival Motorola's more mid-range Razr flip phones. A Galaxy Z Fold FE would get a slightly simplified spec sheet and wouldn't need to major on slimness, as long as it lowers the bar for entry enough. That would let the Z Fold Ultra shave off a few millimetres, just like the China- and Korea-only Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition did, while also bringing a next-gen chipset and more camera cleverness. That's all conjecture until Samsung makes things official, of course. We'll know more in July at Unpacked – assuming the rumours are correct.
