Influencer accused of disappearing after canceling class offers refunds to NYC customers, but there's a catch

CBS News15-05-2025

Multiple women said a TikTok beauty influencer disappeared after they paid her thousands of dollars for a cosmetics training course that never took place.
Days after CBS News New York's first report aired, the influencer has reemerged and is offering some women refunds, but there's a catch.
Women say beauty influencer stopped responding to questions about refunds, rescheduling
Esthetician Marley Matamoros said last year, she paid $3,500 for a course on permanent makeup in New York City taught by Florida-based influencer Melanny Restrepo Herrera.
But Matamoros and two other women – Ashley Landin and Michelle Echeverry – claim the influencer canceled the course, then stopped responding when they messaged her to try to reschedule or get a refund. One of the women said Restrepo Herrera even blocked her on social media.
"Like, I had no clue what to do," Matamoros said.
CBS News New York investigator Mahsa Saeidi tried to get in touch with Restrepo Herrera. She even asked a reporter from CBS News Miami to stop by her listed address. The reporter spoke to a man who identified himself as Restrepo Herrera's stepfather. That man said she lived at the home but was not there at the time.
After CBS News New York's report aired Sunday night, Restrepo Herrera's Instagram and TikTok accounts were deleted.
Customers asked to sign documents in order to get refund
Wednesday morning, after weeks of radio silence, the women said Restrepo Herrera sent them an email, writing that her business, the Luxury Ink, "came to the conclusion that in your particular case, we will be issuing a refund."
There is a catch, however. In order to get the refund, Restrepo Herrera said the women must sign what she calls "corresponding documents" that are being sent to them.
"I think that she should just still give us the refund without having to sign any documents. I'm not sure what the documents are for," Landin said.
Restrepo Herrera's attorney, who was included on the email, told CBS News New York, "We are taking care of this matter separately with each Client" and "all the information is confidential."
The women are not sure what is in the documents they will be asked to sign.
Saeidi asked Restrepo Herrera's attorney about the documents, and if Restrepo Herrera is still tattooing eyebrows and teaching classes.
The attorney said, "My Client is not interested in providing any information," but in the email, Restrepo Herrera did apologize for the "inconvenience."
The Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office has a detective assigned to this case.
As of now, Florida Department of Health records show Restrepo Herrera does not have the license or permits to do permanent makeup.
On Restrepo Herrera's website, Luxury Ink Academy, she's still advertising a course set to happen in Dallas in June.

Florida road rage over turn signal leads to shooting, man hit by SUV: Police

The Brief A shooting and traffic crash took place earlier this week in Bradenton, Florida. All three men involved in the incident were arrested, including a 16-year-old. However, only two of the men are facing charges. No one was seriously injured in the incident. BRADENTON, Fla. - Two people are facing charges in a Florida road rage incident over a turn signal that led to a shooting and a man being hit with an SUV earlier this week, deputies say. What we know At around 3:23 p.m. on June 2, the Bradenton Police Department said it received multiple 911 calls regarding a shooting and traffic crash in the Riverwalk parking lot on Riverfront Boulevard. Officials said 33-year-old Raesean Poole was driving a Jeep and waiting to turn left out of the parking lot at 101 Riverfront Boulevard. Meanwhile, 20-year-old Antony Williams was driving a Buick east on Riverfront Boulevard and turned left into the parking lot in front of Poole. Williams parked his vehicle, and Poole backed up to confront him about not using a turn signal, authorities said. Williams and a 16-year-old passenger exited the Buick. Poole told police that during the confrontation Williams showed him a gun. CCTV video shows Poole began to drive away several times, but repeatedly stopped and continued arguing with Williams. During the final confrontation, officials said Poole turned onto Riverfront Boulevard, reversed and accelerated toward Williams. Poole hit a stop sign and a tree before then striking Williams in the leg. In response, the 16-year-old retrieved a gun and fired into Poole's Jeep. Authorities said all three men were arrested shortly after the incident. Poole is charged with aggravated battery with a motor vehicle, and the teen is charged with aggravated assault with a firearm. Officials say Williams currently does not face any charges in the case, and he was not seriously injured. FOX 35 is choosing not to name or show a picture of the 16-year-old involved in the investigation, as he is a minor. What's next Authorities say the investigation remains active and ongoing. Suspect in Florida double murder arrested in Taliaferro County

TALIAFERRO COUNTY, Ga. (WJBF) – A man wanted for two homicides in Florida was taken into custody in Taliaferro County, Friday. The Taliaferro County Sheriff's Office responded to calls of a suspicious person on the shoulder of the highway, Friday afternoon, described as wearing all white, kneeling with one hand raised. After the individual identified himself to a responding deputy, a check of records showed that he was wanted in Sumter, South Carolina for pointing a gun at a person, just earlier that day. Sumter County investigators also stated that he was a suspect in a homicide case in Penellas County, Florida. The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office has identified him as 37-year-old Nicholas Steven Kirchner. He's facing charges in the murder of his parents, 53-year-old Elizabeth Lee Kirchner and 64-year-old Steven Eric Kirchner. Nicholas reportedly admitted to killing both of his parents, calling it a 'righteous kill', and told investigators he abandoned a stolen vehicle on I-20, which was later found by the Warren County Sheriff's Office. He has been transported to the McDuffie County Sheriff's Office jail to await extradition to Florida on two counts of First-Degree Murder Premeditated. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. Video shows moments man opens fire at Lauderhill apartment complex, sending 2 teens to hospital

A new video shows the moments a man opened fire at a Lauderhill apartment complex, sending two teenage boys to the hospital earlier this week. Kurt Cranston Broward Sheriff's Office On Saturday, the Lauderhill Police Department announced that they had arrested and charged 33-year-old Kurt Cranston for Wednesday afternoon's shooting, where 16-year-old Shiraj Reid and his 17-year-old friend were injured. Both Reid and his friend were treated at Broward Health Medical Center and are expected to survive. Cranston is currently in custody at the Broward County Main Jail, where he faces two attempted murder charges — one for each teen. A dangerous start to summer break Around 4:05 p.m. Wednesday, Lauderhill Police responded to the Casavita II apartments on 2041 NW 43rd Terr., regarding a ShotSpotter notification of 12 gunshots in the area. When officers arrived, they found the first victim located in the roadway of Northwest 43rd Terrace and the second found in the back parking lot, both later identified as Reid and his friend. Investigators obtained surveillance video that showed Cranston walking on the north side of the apartment complex's leasing office with a firearm tucked under his armpit before turning the corner, pointing his weapon toward a "group of males" sitting in the courtyard south of the leasing office, and opening fire. According to Lauderhill Police, Cranston said his motive stemmed from a prior incident involving the victims on June 1, where he claimed to have "feared for his life." Police did not provide further details on the incident but are currently investigating his claims. Cranston was arrested and booked into the BSO Main Jail on Friday.
