Sellur Raju slams DMK for Panthalkudi STP removal

Madurai: AIA
DMK
leader and former minister Sellur K Raju, on Monday, criticised the DMK govt for dismantling a Rs2.5 crore sewage treatment plant (STP) constructed during the previous
AIADMK
regime.
Addressing reporters here, Raju noted that the STP was built in 2020 to prevent untreated sewage from the Panthalkudi channel from entering the Vaigai river. "We built that plant to ensure that the Panthalkudi channel stayed clean. But now, in the name of the development of the Goripalayam flyover, they have scrapped it. This is not development—it's destruction," he said. The STP can treat 2 MLD per day, and recently the Madurai corporation allocated Rs1 crore to restore the facility after the flyover work is completed.
The former minister also pointed out that the Panthalkudi area is home to both Muslim communities and scheduled castes. "This govt even erected curtains so that the chief minister wouldn't see the polluted channel. After protests, they were removed, but the entire approach shows how disconnected this govt is from real civic needs," he added.
Drawing a political parallel, Raju recalled that the last time the DMK held a general council meeting in Madurai—in 1977—it was followed by a major electoral defeat in 1978 when MGR's AIADMK came to power.

"History may repeat itself. The recent DMK meet in Madurai could turn out to be another political omen," he warned.
He also took jabs at the DMK's roadshow arrangements and traffic disruptions during the chief minister's visit, calling them artificially inflated shows of support. "If people truly believed in this govt, lakhs would have gathered without being herded," he said.

WWE faces backlash after reportedly blocking R-Truth tributes on RAW
Image via WWE The WWE Universe is up in arms after reports emerged that the company allegedly blocked talent from wearing R-Truth merchandise during the June 2 episode of Monday Night RAW. The decision, which coincided with news of R-Truth's WWE exit, sparked backlash both backstage and online. According to WrestleVotes, WWE management gave specific instructions to talent not to wear R-Truth shirts on air, a break from long-standing locker room tradition. In the past, performers have honored injured or departing colleagues with subtle tributes, including wearing their merchandise. But this time, the directive was different. Interestingly, Dominik Mysterio wore a Carlito shirt during the same episode - raising eyebrows about the inconsistency. Popular merchandise pulled without warning Adding to the growing unease, WWE reportedly removed R-Truth's 'Ron Cena' t-shirt from its online store. Once a top seller thanks to R-Truth's popular parody character, the shirt's sudden disappearance fueled fan speculation. The lack of an official explanation only intensified criticism. On social media, fans and wrestling commentators didn't hold back. Comments ranged from calling the move 'a disgrace' to likening WWE's current environment to 'the dark Vince McMahon era.' by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch CFD với công nghệ và tốc độ tốt hơn IC Markets Đăng ký Undo One post even suggested WWE was acting like 'a dictatorship.' R-Truth, real name Ron Killings, has been a staple in WWE for more than two decades. Known for his comedic flair, unpredictable promos, and crowd-friendly antics, he struck a rare balance between humor and heart. His antics with the 24/7 Championship and 'Ron Cena' persona made him one of the most entertaining acts on WWE television. Beyond the laughs, Truth was widely respected behind the scenes. His positivity, professionalism, and ability to connect with fans of all ages earned him admiration from peers and fans alike. No official word from WWE As of now, WWE has not issued any public statement on R-Truth's reported release or the alleged apparel restrictions. This silence has only deepened the frustration among fans, many of whom believe the company mishandled the situation. With R-Truth's contract reportedly set to expire by mid-2025, there is speculation that this exit could be part of broader roster changes or creative restructuring behind the scenes. Their loud chants of 'We Want Truth' during RAW and even at the following night's NXT tapings are a powerful reminder of his enduring popularity. For many, he isn't just a comic relief act — he's a symbol of joy and authenticity in a product often criticized for feeling overly scripted or corporate. In an era where WWE is undergoing significant transformation under the TKO Group banner, moments like these show that fan sentiment still holds weight. R-Truth's legacy, built on heart, humor, and connection, is proving difficult to silence - even without the merchandise. Whether WWE decides to respond or stay silent, the reaction to R-Truth's exit shows that fans will continue to fight for the performers they believe in.

Shortlisted candidates will be called for an interview before a three-member selection committee. The venue and schedule will be communicated in due course, higher education secretary Aravind Agrawal said in the notification. However, the Odisha Universities Amendment Act, 2024, clearly states a selection committee will be formed to recruit faculty members by following UGC guidelines. The committee will be chaired by the vice-chancellor of the university or his/her nominee. The faculty selection committee will include an academic not below the rank of a professor nominated by the chancellor. It will have three subject experts selected by the VC from a panel of names recommended by the syndicate. Court rejects plea to extend Taware's police custody in kidney transplant case
Pune: A court on Wednesday rejected the prosecution's plea to extend by seven days the police remand of Dr Ajay Taware, suspended head of Sassoon General Hospital's forensic science department, in connection with the kidney transplant case. He was arrested in relation to the 10 kidney swap transplants that were cleared by the regional authorisation committee for organ transplant, which he headed in 2022. Assistant public prosecutor Nitin Adagale told the court that the investigating officer, ACP (crime) Ganesh Ingale, in the remand report cited several reasons for Taware's questioning as the investigations had made sufficient progress. Probe found discrepancies in the information provided by the donors and recipients as well as in the video recordings of their interviews conducted before the authorisation committee, Adagale said. Police aimed to determine if Taware received any pecuniary benefits from the crime, he said. Judicial magistrate first class S R Badve, in his order, said, "The grounds mentioned in the remand report are not well-founded and justified with respect to the accused. Custodial interrogation of the accused is not necessary." The court remanded Taware in magisterial custody till June 17. He was later sent to Yerawada Central Jail. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với sàn môi giới tin cậy IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Undo When asked if the prosecution would file a criminal revision petition in the sessions court challenging the magistrate court's order to seek police custody, Adagale told TOI after the court proceedings that he had not received instructions from the investigating officer in this regard. ACP Ingale said, "Even though the court has ordered magisterial custody of Taware and sent him to jail, police, as per new provisions of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, reserve the right to seek his police remand whenever required for the purpose of investigations in the future." Taware's lawyers, Sudhir Shah and Abhishek Bade, said they will decide whether to file a bail application after consulting their client. On May 28, police secured Taware's custody from Yerawada jail, where he had been lodged since his arrest on May 27, 2024, in the blood sample swap case linked to the Porsche Taycan car crash on May 19 last year. Police formally arrested him in the 2022 kidney swap transplant case based on a state health department inquiry panel's report that year, which indicted him of misusing his official position to clear the transplant proposal based on bogus persons and forged documents. Taware headed the regional authorisation committee as well as Sassoon authority committee and was medical superintendent of the hospital at the time when the transplant process took place and was completed at Ruby Hall Clinic.
