NBA Makes Hakeem Olajuwon Announcement Before Draft Lottery
The 2025 NBA draft lottery is set to take place in Chicago on Monday night, deciding the first 14 picks of the upcoming selection process.
The Utah Jazz, Washington Wizards and Charlotte Hornets hold the best odds to land the No. 1 overall pick at 14%, followed by the New Orleans Pelicans (12.5%) and Philadelphia 76ers (10.5%).

The Houston Rockets, who finished the 2024-25 regular season as the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference, hold the No. 9 position via a trade with the Phoenix Suns. The Rockets have a 3.8% chance to claim the No. 1 overall pick and a 17.3% chance to land a top-four pick.
On Monday, the NBA announced the on-stage representatives for each of the 14 teams participating in the 2025 draft lottery.
The Rockets will be represented by all-time great NBA legend Hakeem Olajuwon.
Behind the scenes in the drawing room, the Rockets will be represented by senior team counsel Sam Strantz.
Olajuwon entered the NBA as the Rockets' No. 1 overall pick in the 1984 draft. He spent 17 of his 18 professional seasons in Houston, earning 12 All-Star selections, two Defensive Player of the Year trophies and one NBA MVP award. He also led the franchise to back-to-back NBA championships in 1994 and 1995, earning Finals MVP honors both times.

The Rockets' impressive 2024-25 campaign came to an end with a disappointing Game 7 loss to the No. 7 seed Golden State Warriors in the first round of the playoffs. But with this year's first-round pick, the Houston franchise can add to their already-solid young core before the 2025-26 NBA season.

Red Sox Get Encouraging Update on $120 Million Free Agent Signing
Red Sox Get Encouraging Update on $120 Million Free Agent Signing originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Boston Red Sox may be getting the spark they desperately need, with star third baseman Alex Bregman making encouraging progress in his recovery from a right quad strain. Advertisement Bregman, who landed on the 10-day injured list on May 24, has begun a running progression and is currently traveling with the team for their series against the New York Yankees. Though the injury was initially described by manager Alex Cora as 'significant' and similar to the quad strain that sidelined Bregman for over two months in 2021, signs point to a faster recovery this time around. Tim Heitman-Imagn Images 'If it's up to him, he'd be playing tonight,' Cora joked ahead of Friday's series opener in the Bronx. 'He's locked in. He has his date on his mind. We just have to keep working. Obviously, we don't want to rush, and we have to be very diligent with it. But he's feeling great.' Cora admitted the rehab process has gone better than expected, though he declined to reveal a target return date for Bregman. The three-time All-Star was playing like a true centerpiece before the injury, slashing .299/.385/.553 with 11 home runs, 17 doubles, and 35 RBIs across 51 games. His .938 OPS led Boston at the time of his injury. Bregman signed a three-year, $120 million contract with Boston this offseason and had been a stabilizing force both offensively and defensively at third base. Advertisement His absence has been felt, with the Red Sox going 3-7 in their last 10 games and falling to fourth place in the American League East. They now trail the division-leading Yankees by 9.5 games but sit just 4.5 games out of a Wild Card spot. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scores 3,000th point of 2024-25 NBA season in Game 2 of NBA Finals
Oklahoma City Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored his 3,000th point of the season in Game 2 of the NBA Finals against the Indiana Pacers on Sunday, becoming the 12th player in history to reach the total in an NBA season (regular season and playoffs). Gilgeous-Alexander hit the milestone on a nine-foot pull-up jump shot to put the Thunder up 9-7 early in the first quarter. Less than a minute later, he drained a 23-foot 3-point jumper. Advertisement The reigning NBA MVP joins Michael Jordan, Wilt Chamberlain, Bob McAdoo, Elgin Baylor, James Harden, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Kevin Durant, Kobe Bryant, Rick Barry, Shaquille O'Neal and Luka Dončić as the only players to accomplish the feat. This is the 25th time a player has reached 3,000, and Dončić was the most recent player to do it when he scored 3,005 points with the Dallas Mavericks last season. The Pacers have a 1-0 series lead heading into Game 2 on Sunday. Gilgeous-Alexander had 38 points in Oklahoma City's 111-110 Game 1 loss on Thursday. This story will be updated.

Don Nelson expresses his disappointment with Luka Doncic trade by wearing the star's shoes
OKLAHOMA CITY — Hall of Fame coach Don Nelson was not a fan of the Dallas Mavericks trading Luka Doncic — and chose his footwear for Game 2 of the NBA Finals accordingly. Nelson arrived for the news conference announcing him as the Chuck Daly Lifetime Achievement Award winner, as selected by the National Basketball Coaches Association, wearing a pair of Doncic's signature Jordan Brand sneaker. The reason: He was showing Doncic — who he calls 'my dear friend' — support. 'As a matter of fact, I want everybody to know I'm wearing Luka's shoes, his new shoes from Nike that just got on the market,' Nelson said. 'I'm wearing them in protest for the trade from Dallas. Tremendous mistake by the Dallas franchise to trade him and I want everybody to know that.' Doncic was traded by Dallas to the Los Angeles Lakers this season for Anthony Davis, a blockbuster that the entire league found stunning. Fans in Dallas were furious for months, though some of that seems to have subsided in recent weeks with the Mavericks winning draft lottery and the chance to draft Cooper Flagg No. 1 overall later this month. Nelson said his philosophy on generational players is the one that Red Auerbach taught him: Don't trade those talents. 'His philosophy was when you have a great player — Bill Russell, (John) Havlicek, Sam Jones, you name 'em — you don't lose that player,' Nelson said. 'You keep him for a lifetime. You put his number up and you honor that player. That's been my philosophy.' Nelson has deep ties to Dallas, so his reaction to the Doncic trade is understandable. He coached the Mavericks for eight seasons and his son, Donnie Nelson, was an executive with Dallas from 2005 through 2021. ___ AP NBA:
