Ryan Gosling's ‘Star Wars: Starfighter': Everything to know as Mia Goth takes on the Mikey Madison role

This is as close as we're going to get a Barbie-MaXXXine crossover. Mia Goth is joining the new Ryan Gosling-powered Star Wars installment, Starfighter, taking over the role originally offered Anora Oscar winner Mikey Madison. The casting coup is the latest scrap of news about the anticipated project, which will be helmed by Shawn Levy and which had its coming-out party at Star Wars Celebration in April 2025. Here's everything we know so far about Star Wars: Starfighter. More from GoldDerby Danya Taymor could make Tony Awards history with a win for 'John Proctor Is the Villain' How 'Severance' creates Lumon's 'manufactured perfection' through VFX 'Say Nothing' star Anthony Boyle on playing IRA activist Brendan Hughes: We 'get to the humanity as opposed to the mythology' The are scant details about the plot, other than it is a one-off installment that involves Ryan Gosling's character and his young companion being pursued by villainous forces. Levy says that Starfighter will cover new territory in franchise storytelling and won't feature any of the major characters from prior releases. 'This is a standalone. It's not a prequel, not sequel. It's a new adventure. It's set in a period of time that we haven't seen explored yet,' the filmmaker said. 'The reality is that this script is just so good. It has such a great story with great and original characters,' said Gosling. 'It's filled with so much heart and adventure, and there just really is not a more perfect filmmaker for this particular story than Shawn.' Starfighter the movie is not related to the 2001 video game of the same name from LucasArts that was set on the planet of Naboo during the time period of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. Starfighter takes place about five years after the events of the last Star Wars feature, 2019's Rise of Skywalker. READ: Levy, a four-time Emmy nominee for Stranger Things and whose credits also include Deadpool & Wolverine, Free Guy and Night at the Museum, has been developing the project for the past three years with screenwriter Jonathan Tropper. The two previously collaborated on The Adam Project and This Is Where I Leave You. Gosling, a three-time Oscar nominee, was formally introduced as the lead at Star Wars Celebration after weeks of speculation. "That rumor is true," Levy said as he brought out his star to the stage to massive cheers. "The rumors are true." According to Variety, Mikey Madison was initially offered the female lead one of the baddies hunting down Gosling and his young sidekick. Madion reportedly turned down the role due to a pay dispute. It was confirmed that Mia Goth had accepted the role in June 2025. The news was initially reported by The InSneider. No other casting has been announced. Starfighter is slated to begin production in fall 2025 in England. Starfighter is scheduled to open May 28, 2027. McDaniel: Trump, Musk feud like Ross and Rachel on ‘Friends'

Former Republican National Committee (RNC) chair Ronna McDaniel during a recent TV appearance equated the bitter feud between President Trump and tech billionaire Elon Musk to the cyclical relationship between Ross and Rachel on the sitcom 'Friends.' 'I'm hoping it's like a Ross and Rachel thing. That it's just a break and they come back together. You know, we all panicked when they broke up on 'Friends,'' McDaniel said in a Thursday night appearance on NewsNation's 'Cuomo,' adding that she hopes they 'come back together.' Musk, who heads six companies, has been slamming Trump's 'big, beautiful bill' that is currently moving through Congress. He amped up the rhetoric Thursday, taking direct jabs at Trump by backing a call for the president to be impeached and accusing him of being in the Jeffrey Epstein files. Trump threatened to cancel the contracts that Musk's companies have with the federal government. Earlier at the White House on Thursday, Trump said he was 'very surprised' and 'very disappointed' in Musk over his criticism of the massive spending bill that passed the House last month. 'I think Trump's — you've seen Trump forgive people who have said things about him. You've seen these two men work very closely together. Elon was a big part of this election,' the former RNC chair told host Chris Cuomo. 'He came in, their businesses have both suffered, they've been attacked, they've taken a lot of personal hits for coming out politically, and I hope in the end they call a truce.' Cuomo then asked McDaniel if she thinks both men are 'worth more or less than before the election?' 'I think they're both worth more,' she said in response. Trump is looking to move past the fallout. Officials close to the White House did not rule out the possibility of the two men fixing their relationship. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Lisa Kudrow Reveals Why She Might 'Avoid' Joining 'The White Lotus' Season 4

Lisa Kudrow revealed that she would love to work with Mike White during a conversation with Parker Posey for Variety's Actors on Actors series When Posey said Kudrow should join season 4 of The White Lotus, the Friends alum expressed hesitation for taking on a role that is "too dark" Kudrow also revealed that she might not be White's "cup of tea," but joked that she'd let Posey know if she was offered a partLisa Kudrow might've just landed her next role. The Friends alum, 61, sat down with Parker Posey for the June 6 episode of Variety's Actors on Actors series, where they reflected on their careers and opened up about recent projects. As they talked about Posey's fan-favorite role on season 3 of The White Lotus, she questioned if Kudrow would join the next installment of the iconic series. 'Work with Mike White?' Kudrow replied, naming the show's creator. 'Yes. That's a quick answer. I love Mike White.' Although her interactions with White have been limited to hanging out with him at a party, Kudrow revealed that she is also a big fan of his work. 'Brad's Status was my favorite movie of that year,' she said of the 2017 comedy, which White wrote, directed and acted in. 'I emailed him to let him know because I had to. It was so good, I had to, and I don't do that a lot.' 'Lisa, you should be in season 4 [of The White Lotus],' Posey, 56, chimed in. 'You need to be a part.' Gushing over her character Victoria Ratliff, a wealthy North Carolina wife and mother of three who is unaware that her husband's business is under investigation during their vacation in Thailand, added that Kudrow needs to experience the power of the show's writers as they uncover 'the complexity of people.' 'Well, we'll see,' Kudrow joked. 'I'm not asked, but I'll have to let you know.' When Posey highlighted White's unpredictable storylines, the No Good Deed star admitted that she 'might not be his cup of tea.' 'Which is allowed to happen,' she noted. 'But no, I'm a huge Mike White fan.' 'I know you're his cup of tea,' Posey interjected. 'I'm going to text him after this to ensure that you know that you are!' Still, Kudrow had some hesitation about how she would fit into the series. 'I do get nervous about inhabiting things that are too dark,' she confessed. 'I try to avoid that.' Variety confirmed that The White Lotus has been renewed for a fourth season in January 2025, a month before the premiere of season 3, which broke records with 6.2 million viewers tuning in for the finale in April.
