Your next AirPods could coach your workouts with pose detection — here's why it matters

Apple could still be working on a game-changing fitness feature for the AirPods that could completely change how you work out, as a patent has reemerged hinting at an exciting new feature.
Pose detection (which we covered when it last surfaced in 2022 and in 2020) could detect the position of your head during a workout and offer audio guidance to help improve your form or position during exercise. This could help reduce the risk of injury due to incorrect positioning and help optimize exercise through proper form.
We discovered the patent for a "Wireless Ear Bud System with Pose Detection" granted to Apple on May 6, 2025. A previous version of the patent was released on May 11, 2023, by the U.S. Patent Office. It was first filed back in 2018. The new version builds on the previous one with some new information and tweaks. You may like
The previous patent shows that Apple has been working on this feature for some time, though we haven't seen it implemented in AirPods models yet.
Inventions and features don't always come to fruition, but Apple's continually reissuing and tweaking this one suggests it could see the light of day.

"Ear buds may have sensors to gather orientation information such as accelerometer measurements during user movements. A host electronic device may communicate wirelessly with the ear buds and may form part of an ear bud system that supplies the user with coaching and feedback while evaluating user performance of a head movement routine or other exercise routine," reads the patent's text.
Basically, when you move your head a certain way, the AirPods would be aware of the movement and could check to see if the movement is correct based on the exercise you're performing. Position is checked "using a user head pose look-up table to categorize measured user head positions as corresponding to respective user head poses."

Again, this is just a patent and there's no guarantee the feature will ever materialize in a pair of AirPods, but with as much work as Apple appears to have put into the feature over the last eight or more years, I do think we could see if at some point and it might just change the way AirPods users exercise. Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has reportedly increased its iPhone shipments from India to the U.S. in the past few months, as the tech giant moves to protect its U.S. sales from the impact of escalating tariffs on China-made goods. What Happened: Between March and May, 97% of iPhones exported by Foxconn, also known as Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., Ltd (OTC:HNHAF), from India were sent to the U.S., according to customs data reviewed by Reuters. That's a steep jump from the 2024 average of just over 50%, signaling a major supply chain realignment. The surge follows President Donald Trump's renewed push for protectionist trade measures. The president also threatened the tech giant with a 25% tariff on iPhones made outside the U.S. In the first five months of 2025, Foxconn shipped $4.4 billion worth of iPhones from India to the U.S., already surpassing 2024's total of $3.7 billion, the report said. Apple even chartered planes in March to fly $2 billion worth of iPhones directly from India to American It's Important: Apple's pivot reflects an urgent response to mounting geopolitical and trade risks, particularly with China. As U.S. tariffs on Chinese imports soar, Apple is increasingly relying on India to maintain access to the crucial U.S. market. Counterpoint Research analysts expect 25% to 30% of global iPhone production will come from India in 2025, up from 18% in 2024, the report added. Apple reported fiscal second-quarter revenue of $95.36 billion, surpassing analysts' expectations of $94.53 billion. The tech giant also delivered earnings of $1.65 per share for the quarter, slightly ahead of the projected $1.63 per share. iPhone sales reached $46.84 billion, up from $45.96 billion during the same period last year. Historically, Apple has sold over 60 million iPhones annually in the U.S., with approximately 80% of them manufactured in China, the report said. Apple confirms iOS 26 with huge updates and major new features

Apple has confirmed what weeks of rumours had been indicating – its next wave of iOS is getting a big shift in its name, dubbed iOS 26 to match the calendar year during which the software will predominantly be active. That'll skip us from the current iOS 18 straight to 26, but from then onwards it should be a more logical annual change to the number. Alongside that big news, Apple also used today's WWDC to actually show off the new OS, featuring its all-new Liquid Glass design language. After talking up the fact that it hadn't enacted a major design change for pretty much a decade, Apple showed off how Liquid Glass will change the look and feel of your iPhone pretty comprehensively. The new "material" is basically a way of layering elements on your display naturally, with fun transparent effects that behave a lot like glass really would. The presentation showed off a range of glimpses of Liquid Glass in different settings, some of them very similar to the old design, and others more distinct. App icons have been refreshed, for example, but look extremely recognisable, as do many menu items and options. However, the Control Centre is now way glassier and eye-catching (whether you like it or not), while overlaid video controls also showed up much more obviously when demonstrated. Various key apps got big tweaks besides their design, too. The Photos app is going back to a tabbed approach, and the Camera app got a new lick of paint, too – much, well, glassier. The Phone app has a new one-page unified layout for all your favourite contacts, recent calls and voicemails in one place. It's also getting a call screening feature that will be familiar to any Google users, since it has boasted the feature for a while on Pixel hardware. Similar screening options will also come to the Messages app, along with the ability to add backgrounds to your group chats. It'll also get polls, all of which might make it even more of a competitor to the likes of WhatsApp, which has had some of these features for a while. There will be weeks of dissection of all the new tweaks and features that Apple showed off today, but the key knowledge that the software will be called iOS 26 is worth restating – hopefully this doesn't result in any confusion when upgrade time comes this autumn.

The AI Trade Is Back in Play: 2 Stocks to Buy for Summer Sizzle!
Written by Joey Frenette at The Motley Fool Canada The AI (artificial intelligence) trade is getting heated as we move towards the midpoint of the year, with the S&P 500 now just a good day or two away from completing its so-called V-shaped recovery from the brutal spring correction (nearly a bear market for the S&P 500 as the TSX Index held its own relatively well) worsened by Trump's sweeping tariff war with most of the world. If you're a tad jittery after the volatility experienced a few months ago, you're not alone. It's hard to justify buying the stock on strength as tariff talks continue to dominate the headlines. In any case, I think there are great value names that don't entail paying all too high a premium for long-term AI exposure. In this piece, we'll have a look at two great names for investors seeking growth at a reasonable price (GARP). As GARP clashes with the AI trade, I think the following names could be timely bets for the medium and long term. Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) stock seems stuck in a bear market, with shares falling below the $200 level again following what can only be described as a less-than-exciting 2025 edition of WWDC (Worldwide Developers' Conference). I saw the whole thing, and it was lighter in the AI than expected. After facing criticism for overpromising with its Apple Intelligence, which may be an early flop depending on who you ask, I think it's no surprise that the latest WWDC was a bit lighter on the AI promises. Does that mean Apple is ready to step away from the AI race? Of course not! Rather, I think Apple's just underpromising so that it can overdeliver a year or two from now. Indeed, there's a high bar to pass for the next-level Siri to land. And it's not yet above the high bar set by Apple. Despite the less-exciting and relatively AI-light WWDC, I still consider Apple to be a top AI play that'll be worth the wait. For now, there's Liquid Glass technology to get excited about as Apple applies more polish to its model that it wants to get right, even if it means showing up even later to the AI party. After slipping more than 23% from its highs over AI jitters and underwhelming post-WWDC, I think it's time to start thinking about doing some buying. Indeed, the stock is down nearly 7% in the past year, with a forward price-to-earnings multiple of 25.1 times, which is way too low for a firm that's going slow and steady in this AI race. I think slow and steady may very well win the race. But, of course, time will tell. I've been pounding the table on Shopify (TSX:SHOP) and its AI potential for quite some time now (likely well over a year). And recently, I highlighted that some analysts covering the stock are starting to take notice. Indeed, Wall Street is catching on to the company's AI prowess. And with that, I believe, could accompany multiple expansion as the firm continues investing heavily in AI technologies to level up its product. Personally, I think Shopify is the most innovative tech firm in Canada and perhaps in the e-commerce scene. As such, investors may wish to watch the name to buy on any dips over the coming weeks and months. Shopify is the real deal. And to discount its AI powers, I think, would be a mistake.
