Medinsky: Russia seeks peace, but will respond if Kyiv continues conflict for foreign interests

Russian Presidential Aide Vladimir Medinsky has stated that Russia desires peace, but will be "forced to respond" if Kyiv prolongs the confrontation to serve the interests of third countries.
Speaking to the Wall Street Journal, as reported by RIA Novosti, Medinsky asserted, "We want peace, but if Ukraine continues its confrontation to serve the interests of others, we will simply have to respond."
He criticized the Western perception of the conflict as a conventional war, arguing it is a "civil war" between "a single people" sharing language and culture, destined to be allies. He described it as a dispute between "older and younger brothers" regrettably exacerbated by differences, which Russia seeks to end swiftly.
Medinsky warned that "it is impossible to defeat Russia in a protracted war," citing historical examples like the 21-year war with Sweden where Russia gained territory. He cautioned that Kyiv's unwillingness to compromise would result in further territorial losses.
The second round of Russian-Ukrainian negotiations took place in Istanbul on June 2, where memoranda on conflict resolution were exchanged.
On June 6, Medinsky announced Moscow had begun transferring over 6,000 bodies to Ukraine and exchanging wounded prisoners, but stated the Ukrainian side failed to appear at the agreed exchange location.

Baghaei strongly condemned the use of the IAEA Board of Governors by the three European countries and the United States as a tool to raise doubts about the peaceful nature of Iran's nuclear program. He categorically rejected the allegations contained in the IAEA Board of Governors resolution, which was approved Thursday afternoon at the joint proposal of France, Britain, Germany, and the United States and based on the IAEA Director General's political report. Baghaei considered this an unjustified, and unfair measure designed and implemented with the aim of pressuring Iran to deprive the Iranian people of their legitimate rights and interests in the peaceful use of nuclear energy. The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman held the drafters of this resolution responsible for the consequences and repercussions of this unjustified and destructive measure. He emphasized that the Islamic Republic of Iran, in the context of ensuring and protecting the interests of the Iranian people and their rights to benefit from peaceful nuclear energy, will take the necessary measures to respond to this measure. He considered the allegation of Iran's failure to comply with its obligations under the Comprehensive Safeguards Agreements to be baseless and fabricated. He said, "This in itself demonstrates the lack of credibility and ill-intentioned intentions of the drafters of the resolution, as even the IAEA Director General's highly political report did not raise such allegations." The IAEA Board of Governors adopted a resolution on Thursday alleging Iran's non-compliance with its nuclear safeguards obligations for the first time in nearly 20 years. In response, the Iranian Foreign Ministry and the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran condemned the IAEA Board of Governors' resolution in a joint statement. The statement noted that "this resolution accuses Tehran of failing to comply with its safeguards obligations, without mentioning its ongoing and extensive cooperation with the IAEA." The statement stated that this resolution reiterates the politically motivated allegations of the Israeli enemy regime, based on fabricated documents, claiming that Iran has not cooperated fully and promptly with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) since 2019 regarding "undisclosed nuclear materials and activities at several locations." The statement explained that this resolution indicates that the IAEA's failure to provide assurances regarding the peaceful nature of Iran's nuclear program may fall within the jurisdiction of the UN Security Council. Putin: Nuclear Triad remains main guarantor of Russia's sovereignty
Moscow - Saba: Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Wednesday that the nuclear triad will remain the guarantor of Russia's sovereignty, noting that it plays a pivotal role in ensuring the balance of power in the world. According to Sputnik, Putin added during a meeting on the government's arms program: "Special attention must be paid to the nuclear triad (i.e., the three military vehicles carrying nuclear weapons: strategic bombers, land-based ballistic missiles, and submarine-launched ballistic missiles), which has been and remains the guarantor of Russia's sovereignty and plays a key role in ensuring the balance of power in the world." Putin explained that the share of modern weapons in Russia's strategic nuclear forces is 95%, the highest percentage among all nuclear powers in the world. Putin indicated that the focus of the new government arms program should be on developing the most modern weapons systems, saying: "It is also clear that the focus of the new government program should be on creating the most modern weapons systems."
