Fears America is falling out of love with football after sluggish ticket sales... plus Sir Alex Ferguson given red carpet treatment by surprise club
Is America falling out of love with football?
Earlier this week, FIFA decided to slash tickets again for the Club World Cup and it would appear that ticket sales for the Premier League 's Summer Series are sluggish, at best.
Three game days are being staged, with two fixtures at New Jersey 's MetLife Stadium, Chicago's Soldier Field and Atlanta's Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
These are three huge venues, although a line-up of Manchester United, Everton, Bournemouth, and West Ham United does not look to have set pulses racing across the Atlantic.
Vast swathes of tickets remain available for all three events, which take place at the end of July and start of August and is, perhaps, a worrying sign ahead of next year's World Cup.
Premier League insiders insist sales will increase in July as part of typical purchasing trends, and say they are getting positive feedback from the market on how ticket sales are tracking.
Last week, fans of Chelsea and Manchester City, the two English sides heading to Club World Cup, received emails informing them that, as they purchased their ticket early they would be receiving 'a partial refund as a token of appreciation for your early commitment and support'.
One Chelsea supporter, who bought six tickets for the last-16 and four for the final, received $596 back.
Red carpet rolled out for Sir Alex
Sir Alex Ferguson was at the Champions League final as a guest of Paris Saint-Germain.
The legendary Manchester United manager, 83, was given the red carpet treatment in Munich, and appeared to be on fine form.
Onlookers overheard him telling friends that 'these are the occasions I miss the most'.
Ticket price apology
Blackburn Rovers have been forced to email all of their Championship rivals and apologise after charging away fans £2 more than home supporters for matches at Ewood Park last season.
Those in the away end were not given the option of a digital ticket and, as such, were subject to a £2 'administration charge' for a paper equivalent.
Following discussions with the EFL, Blackburn wrote to all of the second-tier's other clubs to 'apologise for this inadvertent price discrepancy' and add that the issue has been rectified for the coming season.
Will Bach be backseat driver?
The coronation of Kirsty Coventry as President of the International Olympic Committee is only days away, but Olympic observers are intrigued as to whether outgoing President, Thomas Bach, will hang around.
Fears that Bach will become a backseat driver for Coventry's administration have been fuelled by rumours that the German will be taking up an office in the Olympic capital of Lausanne as part of his ongoing commitments to various Olympic roles which he will retain.

Astros DFA former first-round pick Forrest Whitley
June 8 - Right-hander Forrest Whitley, once a top-10 prospect in baseball, was designated for assignment by the Houston Astros on Sunday. The Astros selected him with the No. 17 pick of the 2016 MLB Draft out of high school in San Antonio and gave him a $3.148 million signing bonus, but he failed to reached expectations. Now 27, he didn't debut in Houston until the 2024 season and made three relief appearances, giving up no earned runs in 3 1/3 innings. This season, Whitley appeared in five games for Houston, with opponents scoring 10 earned runs on nine hits and six walks in 7 1/3 innings. He has no decisions with an ERA of 12.27. In the minor leagues, he has 117 appearances (65 starts) and a 17-20 record with a 4.75 ERA over 306 2/3 innings. He struck out 421 batters and walked 160. In a corresponding move, the Astros recalled left-hander Brandon Walter from Triple-A Sugar Land. Walter, 28, made one start for the Astros this season, giving up three hits, walking one and striking out five in five innings against the Tampa Bay Rays on May 20. He didn't figure into the decision of the 3-2 Houston loss. --Field Level Media

Live Portugal vs Spain live: Lineups and latest updates from Nations League final
6:45PM Nations League trophy up for grabs We are in Munich for the Nations League final and it is a battle of the Iberian Peninsula as Portugal take on Spain for the trophy. These sides have both lifted this trophy (Portugal in 2019 and Spain 2023) and whichever side comes out on top today will become the first side to win this tournament twice. Portugal earned their place in the final with a come-from-behind win over Germany last Wednesday. Florian Wirtz had given Germany the lead in Munich on Wedneday but goals from Francisco Conceicao and Cristiano Ronaldo turned the game around for Portugal as they ran out 2-1 winners. That winner from Ronaldo was his 137 th goal in 220 international caps and took him to 937 career goals. Spain meanwhile, who are the defending Nations League champions, were involved in an absolute thriller in Stuttgart on Thursday night. They beat France 5-4 in the semi-finals, having been 4-0 and 5-1 up. Today is the first time that 17-year-old Lamine Yamal, who is in contention for this year's Ballon d'Or, comes up against the five-time winner of that award Cristiano Ronaldo. 40-year-old Ronaldo is coming towards the end of his career but Yamal is very much at the start. But despite being just 17-years-old, he has already won the European Championship for Spain and two La Liga titles with Barcelona. Speaking ahead of tonight's final, Ronaldo was full of praise for the young Spaniard. 'This kid has been doing things really well at a club and national team that help him very much. It is a great atmosphere for him to show his quality. Let him grow, do not put him under pressure so we can enjoy a talent like this for many years. I would like to take pressure off him and leave him alone. He has got plenty of talent.' Yamal repaid the favour to the 40-year-old. 'He is a football legend. I, like all the players, have huge respect for Cristiano. This is the kind of game I want to play, to prove who I am.' Spain are unbeaten in their last ten Nations League matches outside of Spain, winning six and drawing four. Spain have definitely had the better of the head-to-heads; they have won 19 of the 42 meetings, with Portugal winning just six meetings. These sides last met in September 2022, when Spain won 1-0 in Portugal in the Nations League courtesy of Alvaro Morata's late winner. In the third/fourth play-off earlier today, France beat Germany 2-0 in Stuttgart. Kick-off from Munich is at 8pm.

Report: Dolphins CB Jalen Ramsey will not attend minicamp
June 8 - Miami Dolphins cornerback Jalen Ramsey does not plan to attend the team's mandatory minicamp this week while the club continues to seek a trade, NFL Network reported on Sunday. Dolphins general manager Chris Grier said prior to the 2025 NFL Draft that Ramsey didn't request a trade, but they came to the joint realization that a potential move makes sense following several conversations about his contract. Ramsey, 30, signed a three-year contract extension in September 2024 and then started all 17 games for Miami. Grier didn't select a cornerback until the 150th pick in April's draft -- Florida's Jason Marshall Jr. Ramsey is guaranteed $25.1 million in 2025, but a new team would owe him $21.1 million since the Dolphins already have paid his $4 million roster bonus. Ramsey came to Miami in March 2023 in a trade with the Los Angeles Rams for a third-round pick and tight end Hunter Long. Ramsey missed the first seven games that season with a knee injury, but he still made the Pro Bowl for the seventh time. --Field Level Media
