Huddersfield Giants claimed their first Super League win of the season as they edged 12-man Hull in a bad-tempered Magic Weekend clash.The Giants led 8-6 at half-time after George Flanagan's penalty and Leroy Cudjoe's score, with Herman Ese'ese crossing to cut the deficit.Hull had Liam Knight sent off for a shoulder charge on Sam Hewitt on the stroke of half-time, and Jacob Gagai's try extended the lead.The Black and Whites defended superbly and Lewis Martin's brilliant flying finish brought them back within two points, but the Giants held out.A first win at the 10th attempt lifted Huddersfield off the bottom and above Salford on points difference, while Hull failed to take their chance to return to the top four and stay fifth after a third straight defeat.
Clune's return and a Knight rush of blood prove pivotal
The Giants welcomed back Adam Clune after almost two months out, and the half-back made an immediate impact, with two try assists as Huddersfield chalked up a 12th Magic Weekend victory.An edgy-looking Hull conceded a string of first-half penalties, allowing Flanagan to boot the Giants ahead.Zac Woolford and Joe Greenwood spurned further gifts, knocking-on in strong attacking positions, before Cudjoe's step-and-go beat Will Pryce in a one-on-one to cross under the posts.John Cartwright's side had mustered little attacking threat, but responded immediately when the Giants coughed up possession from the restart.John Asiata's powerful surge to the line and super back-handed pass allowed Ese'ese to flop over for his fifth Super League try of the season, and only Flanagan's heroic tackle denied Cade Cust a certain try to preserve the slender lead.But the game hinged on two moments of madness as a full-blooded first half boiled over on half-time.Hull prop Sam Eseh swiftly followed Thomas Burgess to the bin for a high tackle on Matty English which sparked a mass brawl. And with the next play, they were down to 11 when Knight was sent off for smashing a shoulder into Hewitt's head.The Black and Whites managed their numerical disadvantage well after the break, but a loose Ese-ese pass was swiftly punished when Clune's brilliant cut-out pass took out four Hull defenders and put Gagai in the right corner.Within a few minutes, Davy Litten's brilliant offload off the floor and Martin's superb one-handed flying finish in the corner made it 12-10 heading into the final quarter.Huddersfield dominated territory, but a combination of super Hull defence - including Cust's brilliant try-saving tackle - and Giants profligacy kept the game in the balance right the way to the final whistle.

Selling Dessers would free up some fresh funds for new boss Russell Martin to spend. Andrew Cavenagh and his partners from the San Francisco 49ers have vowed to inject £20m of fresh funds into the Ibrox coffers, with CEO Patrick Stewart promising the new gaffer a 'decent amount' would be ring fenced for recruitment purposes. But Martin has been told he will have to move players on if he wants to raise additional funds for what is likely to be a considerable rebuild this summer. Record Sport broke the news last week that Leicester City defender Conor Coady could be the first new face in bolster Gers' backline. Ib Rox chiefs have already made contact with the Foxes as they look to kick off the Martin revolution with the experienced ex-England's capture. We also revealed how Rangers are in the hunt for £4 million-rated Israeli striker Dor Turgeman, who could be the man to replace Dessers. Russell Wilson pays heartbreaking tribute to his father on anniversary of his tragic death at 55
New York Giants quarterback Russell Wilson honored his late father on the 15th anniversary of his tragic passing. Wilson, who signed with the Giants in the offseason, posted a picture of his dad - Harrison Wilson III - on his Instagram story. '15 Years Ago we lost you. We miss you every day Dad. Keep shining down on me. Love you! Still can see your smile today,' the 36-year-old quarterback posted. Wilson's father tragically passed away on June 9, 2010 due to complications from diabetes at just the age of 55. His death came one day after Russell was picked in the fourth round of the 2010 MLB Draft by the Colorado Rockies. '(My dad dying) was one of the hardest days of my life,' Wilson said (via The Denver Post). 'It was the highest of highs next to the lowest of lows, all in 24 hours. And how the Colorado Rockies organization took hold of me, took care of me was (incredible). '(Longtime scouting director and current Rockies general manager) Billy Schmidt, (scout) Jay Matthews and some other great people in this community really took me under their wing, and it really meant a lot to me along the way.' Wilson would spend some time in spring training with Colorado and played in their minor league system in the summer. However, the desire to finish out his college football career still remained. But after finishing top-15 nationally in passing yards with NC State, coach Tom O'Brien felt that Wilson wasn't as committed to playing football after signing with the Rockies. The coach said that if Wilson did return, that there wasn't a guarantee that he'd be starting. With no NFL teams interested in drafting him - and O'Brien no longer wanting him - Wilson was released from his scholarship at NC State and looked to make a transfer. On an episode of the podcast 'Not Just Football with Cam Heyward' from last August, Wilson said, 'My dad used to always tell me when I was young, I was about seven, eight years old, 'Hey son, you need to check out this school, you know, Wisconsin.'' So, when Wilson looked to make a move, he transferred to Wisconsin and the rest his history. He excelled with the Badgers, was selected in the third-round of the 2012 NFL Draft by the Seattle Seahawks, and became one of the teams all-time greatest players. In spite of his father's passing, Wilson manages to stay positive through his support system - especially his family, including his wife Ciara and his children. 'When [my dad] passed away, I remember the next morning hearing like, "The sun still comes up in the morning"... No matter what we go through in life,' Wilson said during an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show. 'Especially when you're 1-of-32 guys... why would I be negative?'

'Magical' moment for Hull KR fan with MND after Challenge Cup win
A Hull Kingston Rovers fan, living with Motor Neurone Disease (MND), said it was "magical" to see his team win the Challenge Cup. Hull KR beat Warrington Wolves at Wembley Stadium on Saturday to win the trophy for the first time in 45 of fans cheered as long-term fan Craig Eskrett was invited onto the city hall's balcony at a victory parade on Sunday before the players lifted their trophy."It's something I won't ever forget. It's hard to put into words how emotional and amazing it was," Mr Eskrett said. He added: "I can't put into words how special that was. I think I cried quite a lot. Players were giving me hugs and making sure I was alright. "It's happy tears and tears from the support. Honestly, it's so special. You can't take that away from anyone." On Sunday, Hull KR fans watched as the famous trophy was paraded on an open top bus, following Saturday's 8-6 Eskrett - who has worked with the club to raise funds for those affected by MND - said he was delighted to have been a part of the celebrations."I never thought in a million years I'd be stood on the top of the city hall being applauded by Hull fans," Mr Eskrett said."It's evident that there's always a community in the east side of Hull. They all come together and support their own and I'm honestly so grateful for that."He added: "The support only helps motivate me to keep going and fight this awful disease." Mr Eskrett said Hull KR had "spoiled" him since he was diagnosed with MND in 2024."Mentally I'm really good, really strong. Physically, there are changes but I do believe it's mental strength I've got that's got me to where I am today," he of Saturday's win, Mr Eskrett said: "It's only things as a kid you dream of. It's a bit cliché but I've been supporting this team since I was five-years-old and to witness what I've witnessed yesterday was something."The Robins scored a try in the the 78th minute, with Mikey Lewis' winning conversion leading them to the trophy with less than two minutes Eskrett said: "It was emotional when the time went over. I was crying. I actually forgot we needed the kick to win the game. It was just, it was magical."
