Terror suspects in Andhra grilled by NIA, ATS over IED plot, foreign funding, extremist links
VIZIANAGARAM: Vizianagaram II town police, along with officials from the National Investigation Agency (NIA), Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), and Counter-Intelligence (CI), began questioning two terror suspects in connection with an alleged conspiracy to detonate improvised explosive devices (IEDs) across India.
Siraj Ur Rehaman (29) and Syed Sameer (28) were taken into seven-day police custody on Friday after being transferred from Visakhapatnam Central Prison to the Police Training College (PTC) in Vizianagaram.
Their interrogation was approved by the Additional Judicial First-Class Magistrate Court, Vizianagaram, to gather key details about their reported involvement in planning terror acts and building explosive devices.
Police said DSP-ranked officers began separate interrogations of the duo at the PTC. Security around the facility was intensified, with in-charge SP SV Madhava Reddy and Additional SP Sowmyalatha overseeing the arrangements.

Suhas Shetty Murder: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) will probe the case of Hindu activist Suhas Shetty in Karnataka's Mangaluru, who was hacked to death by a group of assailants on May 1. The probe agency will take police remand of all the eight arrested accused and question them in detail about the case. The development came after the BJP petitioned Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot seeking direction to the State government to transfer the case to NIA for probe last month. Accusing the Congress government of adopting a soft stance over such cases, the BJP had said only an NIA probe could provide justice. Earlier, Sulochana Shetty, mother of slain activist had also urged the state government to transfer the investigation of her son's murder case to the the probe agency. Sulochana had expressed concern about the state government's handling of her son's murder investigation, and had claimed that authorities were impeding a thorough inquiry into the case. 'We seek justice for Suhas. A group of over 50 individuals subjected my son to torture before taking his life. Both home minister G Parameshwara and district minister Dinesh Gundu Rao wrongly labelled my son Suhas as a rowdy.I clarify that Suhas was not a rowdy, but worked with Bajrang Dal. Only an NIA investigation can ensure we receive proper justice," she had said. Suhas Shetty Murder Suhas Shetty, a known rowdy sheeter and Hindutva activist, was murdered by an unidentified group on May 1 within the Bajpe police station limits in Mangaluru. He was attacked at around 8:30 pm while he was traveling with five of his associates when their vehicle was intercepted near Kinnipadavu Cross by the attackers. The attackers, around six people, were traveling in a Swift car and a pickup truck. They reportedly attacked Shetty and his group, assaulting him with deadly weapons causing serious injuries. Shetty was the main accused in the high-profile 2022 murder of Mohammed Fazil. Mohammed Fazil was killed by four masked men on July 28, 2022, with Shetty being the prime accused in the case. The then Basvraj Bommai-led BJP government had not granted any compensation to the deceased family. However, the Siddaramaiah-led Congress government had granted a compensation of Rs 25 lakh to Fazil's family in 2023, something that was also offered to three other families that saw members lose lives to communal murders. Police excesses reflected organised crime: YSRCP coordinator Sajjala
VIJAYAWADA: YSRCP State coordinator Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy lashed out at the TDP-led NDA government, alleging that a section of police officers was functioning like a private army of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and HRD Minister Nara Lokesh. An organised crime gang was created within the police system, causing grave harm to the State's law and order machinery, he said. Speaking to mediapersons on Saturday, after visiting Lakshminarayana, a YSRCP activist, who is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Guntur after attempting suicide, Sajjala demanded strict action against the DSP, who harassed him. He also demanded that a judicial inquiry by a sitting judge be conducted into the incident. He said complaints against the State-sponsored violence would be submitted to the President of India, and the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC). He said Andhra Pradesh was now witnessing a far worse situation that prevailed once in Uttar Pradesh, with unchecked police actions pushing it towards institutional collapse. Sajjala detailed how Lakshminarayana, a businessman and party activist, was summoned by the DSP on the pretext of a panchayat, verbally abused in the name of caste, and humiliated for his political affiliation. The emotional distress led him to attempt suicide, and he is now battling for life, Sajjala said.

Gurgaon Club bombings: NIA files chargesheet against Goldy Brar, 4 others
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has chargesheeted five accused, including Canada-based Khalistani terrorist Goldy Brar, in the 2024 case relating to bomb attacks at two clubs in Gurugram, officials said on Saturday. In a statement issued on Saturday, the NIA said, it has 'charged Canada-based Satinderjit Singh, alias Goldy Brar, along with Sachin Taliyan, Ankit, Bhawish and United States-based Randeep Singh, alisas Randeep Malik, under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Arms Act, Explosives Substance Act, and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. Barring Goldy Brar and Randeep Malik, all others have been arrested in the case'. The NIA added hat it had 'found the accused to be involved in conspiracy to target Warehouse Club and Human Club in Sector-29 with bombs, as part of the Babbar Khalsa International's (BKI) larger conspiracy to spread communal disharmony and disrupt peace in the state of Haryana and neighbouring regions by unleashing violence'. The attack, perpetrated by members and cadres of the proscribed BKI terror outfit, took place on December 10, 2024 NIA investigations later revealed that the deep-rooted terror conspiracy was hatched by Goldy Brar and his associates, the agency said. As per the NIA investigations, so far, 'the terror syndicate is actively involved in extorting money, raising terror funds, procuring explosives and arms and ammunition, and promoting terror amongst the common people to threaten the integrity, security (including economic security) and sovereignty of the country. The anti-terror agency is continuing with its probe in the case', an official said.
