The licence makes Starlink the third company to receive authorisation from the telecommunications department.
Elon Musk's Starlink has been granted a crucial licence by India's
Department of Telecommunications
. This approval marks a significant milestone for the satellite service provider, bringing it nearer to beginning its commercial operations in India, according to a Reuters report.
The licence makes Starlink the third company to receive authorisation from the telecommunications department, following earlier approvals granted to Eutelsat's OneWeb and
Reliance Jio
for providing their services within the country.
Yesterday Communications Minister
Jyotiraditya Scindia
announced that Musk's Starlink shall receive authorisation as the third satellite internet service provider in India.
The Department of Telecom, government of India, has previously granted licences to Bharti's OneWeb and Reliance Jio, as confirmed by the minister during a press interaction.

The minister clarified that spectrum allocation would follow after the licensing process.
"And after this, the government will provide the spectrum. Subsequently, satellite telecom services will be fully operational in the country at a rapid pace. I am sure the customer base in India will grow substantially," the minister added.
"Starlink's satellite connectivity is a significant addition to the telecommunications services," he said, whilst discussing the advancement of the telecommunications landscape in the country.
"Earlier, there was only a fixed line. Today, there is mobile connectivity and broadband connectivity. Optical fibre connectivity has also come in. Along with these, satellite connectivity is also very important," he quipped.
Scindia emphasised that expanding internet coverage, particularly in hard-to-reach regions where traditional infrastructure such as cables and towers would be challenging to establish, can be achieved effectively through satellite communication services.

Google Deepmind CEO says he will pay ‘thousands of dollars' to get rid of THIS! Would you do the same?

Artificial intelligence pioneer and Google Deepmind CEO Demis Hassabis has said that he would pay 'thousands of dollars' to get rid of his daily emails as he gets too overwhelmed by them. Speaking at the South by Southwest (SXSW) festival on Monday, June 2, the Nobel laureate said his team at Google Deepmind is working on an AI-powered mechanism that will address this exact issue and take over the tedious task of managing email inboxes. 'I would love to get rid of my email. I would pay thousands of dollars per month to get rid of that,' Hassabis said. The new system will be aimed at helping users managing their email inboxes, sorting through mails automatically and replying to regular messages. The tool will also ensure that the important messages do not go unnoticed. 'The thing I really want – and we're working on – is can we have a next-generation email?,' Hassabis said. He revealed that the new AI tool by Google will not only manage and filter emails but also send replies that match the user's writing style. The tool is currently under development. Demis Hassabis also said on Monday that greater international cooperation around AI regulation was needed but "difficult" to achieve 'in today's geopolitical context'. At a time when AI is being integrated across all industries, its uses have raised major ethical questions, from the spread of misinformation to its impact on employment, or the loss of technological control. Speaking at the SXSW festival on Monday, Hassabis, who has won a Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his research on AI, also addressed the challenges that artificial general intelligence (AGI) -- a technology that could match and even surpass human capability -- would bring. "The most important thing is it's got to be some form of international cooperation because the technology is across all borders. It's going to get applied to all countries," Hassabis said. "Many, many countries are involved in researching or building data centres or hosting these technologies. So I think for anything to be meaningful, there has to be some sort of international cooperation or collaboration and unfortunately that's looking quite difficult in today's geopolitical context," he said.

Musk-Miller feud: Katie Miller used to give instructions on Elon's behalf, White House sent a mail to bar her

Katie Miller and Stephen Miller are once again working for two sparring bosses. Earlier, it was Mike Pence and Donald Trump. Before Elon Musk and Donald Trump publicly fought and reached a point of no return, there was another 'breakup' that took place between Musk and the Millers -- Stephen Miller and Katie Miller. Stephen Miller is the deputy chief of staff in the White House where Katie Miller used to work as Elon Musk's spokesperson. But when Elon Musk stepped down from DOGE, Katie Miller chose to work full-time with Elon Musk. The disagreement between Donald Trump and Elon Musk was not a secret when Elon Musk walked out of the White House, but after their public fallout, the Millers are the most affected individuals. Elon Musk unfollowed Stephen Miller while Katie Miller is not issuing any public statements. Musk vs Millers: Here are the inside details A Wall Street Journal report claimed that Karie Miller overreached her role and started giving instructions on Elon's behalf. Special government employees like Katie Miller did not have any walk-in privileges in the West Wing unless they were working with the president, like Elon Musk. But Karie Miller was always flouting the rule -- walking in and out of offices as she worked in the first Trump administration as well. An email was sent pout to the staff reminding them that they can't walk into any office they want. The target was Katie Miller, and the mail was sent out from her husband's department. As Elon Musk-Trump's public slamming took an ugly turn, the Millers maintained silence but the WSJ report said that Katie Miller privately asked others to speak on her behalf. And the statement is that the Millers were "trying to cool the temperaute between Musk and Trump" Friday. Katie Miller is known to be a strong taskmaster who doesn't think twice to blur ethical lines. People who worked with her told Journal that she used to exhaust people, and so they gave her what she wanted. And many people do not like that kind of intensity. One of her former colleagues told Journal that Katie Miller is a person who could tell from her memory the status of every project better than those who are running the projects. This is not the first time that Millers are torn between two bosses. Katie Miller continued working for Mike Pence and Stephen with Donald Trump when they had a split. But this time, the rumors were that Katie Miller was leaving Stephen Miller for Elon Musk. White House was not happy with Katie Miller's role in DOGE, the WSJ report said as they feel that she did not do enough to persuade Musk to work with the agencies and the White House. While working as DOGE spokesperson, Katie continues working P2 Public Affairs, a Republican consulting firm and secured many clients meetings at the White House. After this got repored, she left P2.

‘Huge mistake': Amid Donald Trump vs Elon Musk spat, JD Vance says he hopes Tesla CEO will ‘come back into fold'

US Vice President JD Vance said Tesla CEO Elon Musk is making a 'huge mistake' by being at a verbal war with Donald Trump, hoping that he 'comes back into the fold' after the public feud went through the roof. 'I'm always going to be loyal to the president and I hope that eventually Elon kind of comes back into the fold,' Vance said, speaking on the 'This Past Weekend w/ Theo Von' podcast, which was released on Saturday. However, Vance worried that a reconciliation might not be possible now because Elon Musk has gone 'nuclear'. 'Maybe that's not possible now because he's gone so nuclear, but I hope it is.' While Vance had earlier showed support for the US President, the interview marked his first direct comments on Musk since the spat erupted. Speaking during the podcast interview with comedian Theo Von, JD Vance added that Elon Musk is entitled to his own opinion and he does not have to agree with the bill. 'Elon is entitled to his opinion. I'm not saying he has to agree with the bill or agree with everything that I'm saying.' He said that the billionaire CEO, who is the world's richest man, is making a 'huge mistake' by feuding with the world's most powerful man. 'I just think it's a huge mistake for the world's wealthiest man — I think one of the most transformational entrepreneurs ever — to be at war with the world's most powerful man, who I think is doing more to save the country than anybody in my lifetime,' Vance said. The US Vice President said he did not think that the spat between Musk and Trump is not in national interest. 'I just think you've got to have some respect for him and say, 'yeah, we don't have to agree on every issue.' But is this war actually in the interest of the country? I don't think so.' 'The president doesn't think that he needs to be in a blood feud with Elon Musk, and I actually think if Elon chilled out a little bit, everything would be fine,' Vance added. He had earlier extended support to US President Donald Trump amid the public breakdown. In a post on X on Friday, Vance said, 'President Trump has done more than any person in my lifetime to earn the trust of the movement he leads. I'm proud to stand beside him.'
