Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang Just Delivered Incredible News for Amazon Investors

It's been a good week for shareholders of Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA). The market has been worried about the powerhouse artificial intelligence (AI) company, but management assuaged many fears about its future opportunities and its ability to thrive despite regulatory issues that are weighing on its financial statements. CEO Jensen Huang gave many positive updates, and they don't just bode well for Nvidia, but for the long-term potential of generative AI -- and more specifically, AI superstar Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN). The age of generative AI The market wasn't sure what to expect from Nvidia's latest earnings release. Although the semiconductor giant is the dominant chipmaker in the industry, there have been a few updates that some believe mar its investing thesis. The market was disturbed when Chinese AI platform DeepSeek came out earlier this year, making people question whether or not Nvidia's high-priced chips were really necessary for generative AI development. And some chip shipments have been disrupted by regulatory efforts to keep the U.S.'s best equipment out of China. But performance has continued swimmingly at Nvidia, and it just released another fabulous round of earnings for the 2026 fiscal first quarter (ended April 27). Revenue increased 69% year over year to $44.1 billion, better than the $43.3 billion analysts were expecting, and adjusted earnings per share (EPS) were $0.96, better than the $0.93 target from analysts. Including a one-time charge related to deliveries it couldn't ship due to regulations about what chips it could send to China, EPS was $0.81, still way ahead of $0.60 last year. But it's the long-term outlook that keeps Nvidia's investing thesis strong. On the earnings call, Huang said: "We know that AI is this incredible technology that's going to transform every industry from, of course, the way we do software to healthcare and financial services to retail to, I guess, every industry, transportation, manufacturing. And we're at the beginning of that." How Nvidia is ramping up Nvidia is now addressing the demand that it has helped create. Its most advanced chips, Blackwell, are selling fast, and they're in high demand from its large cloud computing clients like Amazon and Microsoft, the two largest global cloud providers. Nvidia's chief financial officer, Colette Kress, said on the earnings call that Microsoft alone was already using tens of thousands of Blackwell GPUs, and Blackwell accounted for 70% of data center sales in the first quarter. The company is already working on its next generation of GPUs, with each iteration more powerful, to handle the breakneck speed of AI development. Blackwell Ultra is already rolling in the current quarter, and Nvidia is working on even more powerful chips that can handle the inference part of generative AI, where the greatest demand is right now. How this helps Amazon Huang's sentiments echoed what Amazon CEO Andy Jassy recently said about the future of generative AI: I spent a fair bit of time thinking several years out. And while it may be hard for some to fathom a world where virtually every app has generative AI infused in it -- with inference being a core building block just like compute, storage, and data base, and most companies having their own agents that accomplish various tasks and interact with one another -- this is the world we're thinking about all the time. And we continue to believe that this world will mostly be built on top of the cloud, with the largest portion of it on AWS. Amazon Web Services (AWS) is the largest cloud services provider in the world, with 30% of the market, according to Statista. It inks new deals with high-profile clients all the time, including Adobe, Uber Technologies, and Cisco Systems in the first quarter. It's investing more than $100 billion into its AI business this year to be prepared to handle demand. Since most of the generative AI app development happens on the cloud, Amazon will benefit from that shift, as long as it's ready with best-in-class capabilities. Jassy often describes what it looks like: There's a three-layer system, with developers building their own large language models (LLMs) at the bottom for the most powerful generative AI platforms, a middle layer where clients use Amazon's LLMs, and a top layer where small businesses can use ready-made solutions for less intensive needs. Amazon has literally thousands of features to meet every demand and budget. "Before this generation of AI, we thought AWS had the chance to ultimately be a multi-hundred-billion-dollar revenue run rate business," Jassy said. "We now think it could be even larger." Amazon is developing its own, cheaper chips for smaller clients looking for budget-friendly options, but it's also one of Nvidia's biggest clients, and it's going to maintain that relationship because it needs the chipmaker's best-in-class products for its own big clients. Huang and Jassy are on the same page in envisioning what the future is going to look like. Nvidia's strong results and investments in its product line are good news for Jassy and Amazon as they build out to benefit from the shift. Should you invest $1,000 in Amazon right now? Amazon Wants to Create ‘Breakthrough' Products. Should You Buy AMZN Stock Here?

Over the past decade, consumer electronics divisions at major tech firms have driven growth, with hits like Apple's (AAPL) AirPods fueling shareholder gains while flops left others scrambling. Following in those footsteps, Amazon (AMZN) is stepping up its game by forming a new group called ZeroOne. The team's mission is to take ideas from 'zero to one' and launch entirely new product categories. ZeroOne is led by J Allard, the former Microsoft (MSFT) veteran who co-created the Xbox console. Job listings hint at projects ranging from smart-home computer vision to AI-powered wearables. This push comes after Amazon's mixed track record in devices. While the Kindle and Echo were major successes, products like the Fire Phone and Halo fitness tracker failed to gain traction. Recruiting Allard signals a bold bet on breakthrough innovation to reinvigorate the company's hardware ambitions. Amazon's top-line momentum is being fueled by its high-margin advertising arm, and the launch of ZeroOne offers potential new catalysts if it yields breakout products. About Amazon Stock Based in Seattle, Amazon is a global e-commerce leader, offering everything from everyday essentials to fresh groceries through its vast online marketplace and Prime subscription services. Its Amazon Web Services (AWS) division powers businesses worldwide with scalable cloud computing, storage, and AI tools. Beyond retail and cloud, Amazon generates high-margin revenue from its advertising platform and digital content, streaming video, music, and ebooks. The company is also expanding in logistics, robotics, and emerging technologies to drive efficiency and support future growth. Valued at approximately $2.2 trillion, Amazon shares have rallied 12% over the past 52 weeks, yet are down nearly 7% year-to-date amid fears over tariffs. Despite underperforming this year, Amazon shares still trade at a premium multiple of 33x forward earnings, significantly higher than the industry average of 16x. However, these multiples are well below its own historical average of 70x. AI-Powered Cloud Services Artificial intelligence is playing a key role in driving AWS's expansion. Amazon clients leverage tools like SageMaker to train and run models on Amazon's servers instead of purchasing costly hardware. As the global cloud computing market leaps from $750 billion in 2024 to nearly $2.9 trillion by 2030, AWS stands to capitalize on a projected 20% expansion driven by AI demand. Furthermore, AI is transforming Amazon's operations. The company deploys machine learning to optimize warehouse robotics, cut labor costs and speed order fulfillment. It enhances product recommendations, refines Alexa's voice responses, and improves demand forecasting. These AI applications boost efficiency, customer satisfaction and profitability across Amazon's vast e-commerce and services ecosystem. Amazon Delivered Strong Q1 Earnings Amazon's recent earnings beat, helped by temporarily easing tariff pressures, has lifted investor sentiment. On May 1, the e-commerce giant reported Q1 revenue of $155.7 billion, up 9% year-over-year and $546 million above guidance. Despite Online Stores being Amazon's largest segment, it grew just 5% to $57.4 billion and carries razor-thin margins. Nevertheless, companywide operating income jumped 20%, underscoring how its cloud and ad businesses are increasingly shouldering the profit load. Logistics efficiencies also played a key role. Shipping costs rose only 3% year-over-year against an 8% increase in paid units, a notable five-point gap compared to last year. Internal documents point to warehouse robotics flattening Amazon's hiring curve, further trimming labor expenses. Meanwhile, AWS once again led the way, posting 17% revenue growth on a $120 billion annual run rate and expanding operating margins to 39%. These results highlight AWS's role as the company's primary profit engine. On an adjusted basis, Amazon reported earnings of $1.59 per share, surpassing estimates by $0.24. Looking ahead, management sees up to 11% year-over-year revenue growth in Q2. While tariff jitters could temper top-line upside, the 11.8% operating margin achieved in Q1 suggests Amazon is well-positioned to exceed profitability expectations once again. What Do Analysts Think About Amazon Stock? Analysts remain bullish on Amazon after its Q1 earnings. Wedbush raised its price target from $225 to $235 early in May, citing 'multiple levers of sustainable margin improvement.' Similarly, JPMorgan boosted its price target from $220 to $225, noting that AWS is bringing on more capacity and that incremental supply is being consumed quickly. Overall, Amazon carries a consensus 'Strong Buy' rating from Wall Street analysts, with a mean price target of $240.69 implying 17% upside from current levels.

3 Stocks Set to Ride the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Wave to New Heights

Artificial intelligence (AI) is this decade's most prominent investing theme so far. As AI-powered applications took the world by storm, Wall Street fell in love with AI stocks. With the AI wave far from cresting, three Motley Fool contributors take a closer look at three of their favorite AI stocks: Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN), Qualcomm (NASDAQ: QCOM), and Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA). Where to invest $1,000 right now? Our analyst team just revealed what they believe are the 10 best stocks to buy right now. Continue » Amazon's cloud leadership makes the stock a no-brainer for the AI wave Justin Pope (Amazon): Artificial intelligence will change the game for Amazon, a company that's already wildly successful by any measure. Amazon Web Services, or AWS for short, is the world's leading cloud platform, with a 30% share of the global cloud infrastructure market. AWS generated more than 58% of the company's total operating income over the past four quarters, but only 17% of total net revenue. Many artificial intelligence (AI) applications, which are software at their core, will run on cloud computing platforms. Amazon and other cloud companies continually invested billions of dollars to build data centers to expand their cloud capacity to accommodate all this demand. Research from Goldman Sachs estimates that AI will drive sustained cloud growth, boosting global cloud computing revenue at a 22% annualized pace, to $2 trillion by 2030. It seems likely that AWS, which grew revenue by 17% year over year in the first quarter, will sustain healthy growth for the foreseeable future as long as AI momentum continues. Amazon is building out an AI ecosystem on AWS, including Bedrock, a platform for developing generative AI applications such as virtual agents. Amazon's market leadership should help it upsell its cloud customers and retain them on AWS for their AI needs. Analysts estimate Amazon will grow earnings by an average of 17% annually over the long term. I think those are fair growth expectations given Amazon's AI opportunities, as well as its continued growth potential in e-commerce, digital advertising, streaming, and Prime subscription service. It makes the stock a buy at its current price-to-earnings ratio of 33, a reasonable valuation for such a growing, world-class company. Low-cost AI could stoke demand for this company's products Will Healy (Qualcomm): Admittedly, investors may not necessarily think of Qualcomm when looking at stocks that will take AI to new heights. Its longtime client, Apple, appears poised to stop using its smartphone chipsets in the iPhone. Additionally, Qualcomm's ties to China could put pressure on the stock should U.S.-China relations continue to deteriorate. Nonetheless, DeepSeek's breakthrough dramatically lowered the cost of developing AI models. Qualcomm's chipset business, which made up 64% of the company's revenue in the first half of fiscal 2025 (ended March 30), relies on an AI-driven upgrade cycle that presumably benefits from low-cost AI. Moreover, Qualcomm applied its technical capabilities to the automotive and Internet of Things (IoT) industries in recent years. Over the last year, these segments grew revenue by 60% and 31%, respectively, and such successes are likely to put a brighter spotlight on its AI. Qualcomm may have already begun to benefit. It generated $22.6 billion in revenue in the first two quarters of fiscal 2025, 17% higher than year-ago levels. Costs and expenses grew 13% over the same period, and thanks to lower investment income and higher income taxes, the $6 billion in net income increased by 18% over the last year. When considering that growth, one must also assume Qualcomm stock prices in its challenges. It sells at a P/E ratio of 15, even after bouncing off the 52-week lows reached in early April. Low valuations are not necessarily a reason to buy a stock. However, considering Qualcomm's potential to transform parts of the AI industry, investors may want to buy this semiconductor stock while it is still inexpensive. Jake Lerch (Nvidia): When it comes to AI stocks, it's impossible to ignore Nvidia. Simply put, Nvidia remains the king of AI stocks. Since January 2020, Nvidia shares gained more than 2,200% -- meaning a $5,000 investment made on Jan. 1, 2020, would now be worth nearly $120,000. Yet, even after this magnificent run, Nvidia is showing no signs of slowing down. Indeed, the company just notched another fantastic quarterly report (for the three months ending on April 30, 2025), beating expectations for both revenue and earnings. Highlights included: Revenue of $44.1 billion, up 69% from a year earlier. Net income of $18.8 billion, up 26% year over year. Share repurchases totaling $14.1 billion during the quarter. While the report was a stunning success for the company, there was one fly in the ointment: Nvidia's gross margin fell from 78% to 61% over the last year. However, management attributed most of the drop to a write-off due to export restrictions to China. In effect, Nvidia's AI chips are so powerful that the U.S. government restricted their delivery to geopolitical rivals like China. Consequently, Nvidia couldn't deliver products that were earmarked for sale to the Chinese market and was forced to write off the inventory this quarter. Going forward, management noted that gross margin should rebound back into the 70% to 75% range later this year. At any rate, Nvidia continues to show why it is riding the AI wave as well as -- if not better than -- any other company. Its AI chips remain the go-to product for AI developers. Demand remains strong, and the company continues to deliver the red-hot growth that has powered its stock to an eye-popping market cap of more than $3 trillion. For investors looking for an AI stock with staying power, Nvidia is a name to consider. Should you invest $1,000 in Nvidia right now?
