Power outages impact thousands in Portland area
PORTLAND, Ore. () — Power outages are impacting people in the Portland area, according to reports from residents and local utility companies.
According to Portland General Electric's , around 10 p.m., there were about 20 active outages and thousands of total customers affected, including in Southeast Portland, Washington County and Yamhill County.
PF&R investigating 'intentionally set' apartment fire
It's unclear what the cause of the outages are or when the power is expected to be fully restored.
KOIN 6 News reached out to PGE. They responded with a link to the , saying it is the best source of information. However, they did not provide any further information about why the outages happened.
However, Sunday marked the first day of the year in Portland when temperatures rose above 90 degrees. According to , high heat can create a high demand for electricity due to many people using air conditioning during peak periods.
KOIN 6 News also reached out to Pacific Power. They responded, saying about 2,800 of their customers in Portland were without power. They said there was one outage in Portland, caused by a tree that fell on a power line, and it is expected to be restored by 1 a.m. Monday.
