Saudi Arabia: The World's Fastest-Growing Tourist Hotspot Beckons Europeans
Saudi Arabia has rapidly become a top tourism destination for Europeans, blending adventure, luxury, and sports, with visits surging 24% in 2024. Fahd Hamidaddin, CEO of the Saudi Tourism Authority, announced this milestone at ITB Berlin 2025, crediting diverse offerings from mega-sporting events to luxury coastal escapes.
'Europe delivered our highest growth last year, with 44% of travelers being women,' Hamidaddin said. 'We've smashed our 2030 target early, hitting 106 million visits by 2023.' The Kingdom now eyes 150 million annual visitors, fueled by double-digit growth since 2019.
Saudi Arabia Emerges as Global Sports Hub
Saudi Arabia now hosts more weekly events than Las Vegas, drawing icons like Ronaldo, Tyson Fury, and Max Verstappen. The 2034 FIFA World Cup will crown its rise, but 2025 already packs star-powered lineups.
April brings the AFC Asian U17 Cup, while Formula One roars into Jeddah with Lewis Hamilton's Ferrari debut. Basketball's FIBA Asia Cup follows in August, and November closes with the WTA Tour Finals. 'Every major event pairs with cultural festivals,' Hamidaddin added, citing boxing, Dakar Rally, and tennis spectacles.
Stretching 28,000 square kilometers, Saudi's Red Sea coast merges five-star opulence with eco-conscious development. Six Senses Southern Dunes and St. Regis Red Sea Resort now welcome guests to overwater villas and coral-rich waters.
By 2025, 16 resorts will dot the shoreline, part of a 50-resort masterplan for 2030. Red Sea Global pledges 75% of islands remain untouched, while resorts run entirely on renewables. 'This vertical Riviera rivals global beach destinations,' said Hamidaddin, highlighting Neom's Sindalah Island and luxury marinas.
Desert Dreams: Stargazing, Adventure & Rewilding in the Kingdom's Dunes
Nearly a third of Saudi Arabia's terrain features iconic deserts like the Rub'Al Khali, the planet's largest sand sea. Winter transforms these dunes into hubs for sand healing, stargazing, and extreme sports.
AlUla offers camel treks and Bedouin-style camping, while Riyadh's Red Sands and Edge of the World cliffs challenge thrill-seekers. 'Our rewilding initiatives reintroduced 21 species,' Hamidaddin noted, comparing desert tourism to African safaris or Alpine skiing.
Whether chasing Grand Prix adrenaline, Red Sea serenity, or desert adventures, Saudi Arabia caters to all tastes. With visa reforms and year-round events, the Kingdom cements its status as the world's fastest-growing destination—no longer a 'best-kept secret,' but a must-visit marvel.

Saudi Arabia beat Bahrain to stay in World Cup qualification hunt
Saudi Gazette report RIFFA — Saudi Arabia kept their hopes of automatic qualification alive with a 2-0 victory over Bahrain in Group C of the AFC Asian Qualifiers – Road to 26 on Thursday. The result lifted Herve Renard's side to 13 points, setting up a decisive showdown with group leaders Australia next Tuesday. The Saudis must win that match by at least four goals to overtake the Socceroos on goal difference and secure second place. The Green Falcons asserted themselves early at Bahrain National Stadium. A long-range pass from Hassan Al Tambakti found Ali Majrashi in space, but the fullback's second touch allowed Bahrain goalkeeper Ebrahim Lutfalla to close down quickly. Saudi Arabia found their breakthrough in the 16th minute. Captain Salem Al Dawsari delivered a pinpoint first-time cross to the far post, where Musab Al Juwayr — recently named Saudi Pro League Young Player of the Season — calmly sidefooted the ball home. Bahrain responded with long-range efforts from Komail Al Aswad and Mohamed Marhoon, but neither troubled Saudi keeper Nawaf Al Aqidi. Al Dawsari had a chance to double the lead in the 40th minute after a clever through-ball from Aiman Yahya, but his chipped finish drifted just over the bar. After the break, Saudi Arabia pressed for a second. Feras Albrikan had the ball in the net just before the hour mark, but the goal was disallowed for offside in the buildup. Bahrain nearly equalized in the 68th minute, but Marhoon's strike off a low cross from Ebrahim Alkhatal struck the post. Five minutes later, Al Aqidi produced a double save to deny Vincent Emmanuel and Mahdi Abduljabbar in quick succession. With Bahrain pushing forward in search of a goal, Saudi Arabia capitalized. In the closing minutes, Majrashi played a through ball to substitute Abduralrahman Alobud, who finished clinically to seal the 2-0 win. Saudi Arabia now face a high-stakes final group match against Australia, where only a convincing +5 goals win will send them directly to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Saudi Arabia, Bahrain eye must-win clash in Asian qualifiers
Saudi Gazette report RIFFA — Saudi Arabia and Bahrain face a high-stakes showdown on Thursday in Group C of the AFC Asian Qualifiers – Road to 26, with both sides knowing that only victory will keep their World Cup dreams alive. Bahrain, currently on six points, are targeting a playoff berth after back-to-back losses to Indonesia and Japan in March ended their hopes of automatic qualification. They trail second-placed Indonesia by three points, with only the third and fourth-placed teams eligible for the intercontinental playoff route to the 2026 FIFA World Cup. While Bahrain's destiny is no longer in their own hands, Hélder Cristóvão's side remain mathematically in the race and will be eager to stay within reach heading into the final matchday. Saudi Arabia, meanwhile, are locked in a tense battle with Australia for the group's second automatic qualification spot, with leaders Japan already through to the Finals. The Green Falcons need all three points in Riffa to keep the pressure on the Socceroos ahead of Tuesday's final round. Should Australia stumble against Japan on Thursday, a Saudi win would set up a dramatic, winner-takes-all clash between the two sides next week. With everything on the line, both teams are expected to come out with full intensity in what promises to be a decisive encounter in the Road to 26 campaign.
