Murderbot – Season 1 Episode 2 Recap & Review
Eye Contact
Episode 2 of Murderbot begins with the group of miners deciding they need to head to one of the areas on the map that hasn't been synced properly. With Murderbot in stasis, Mensah wants to draw her own conclusions about what's going on and whether there could be some sort of cover-up.
Professor Bharardwaj is now fully healed too and back in fighting spirits (almost) which helps the group's conviction as it's eventually decided that they're going to go and investigate.
When Murderbot awakens, he curses out the humans for being typical pioneers and exploring. Gurathin doesn't trust Murderbot though, and wants to try and keep it in the dark over what they're doing. Our protagonist berates Gurathin (in his head) and unfortunately, is questioned forced quite a bit about its intentions in this chapter.
Murderbot wants to join the expedition given the potential threat level, but Gurathin doesn't think it's a good idea. The philosophy within Preservation Alliance is that robots and androids are people and treated as such.
In the Corporation Rim the Murderbot is obviously required to do anything by direct order, so to test this theory, Guranthin forces the Murderbot to maintain eye contact, which he struggles to do. SecUnits are not deigned to form attachments with clients, hence the suspicion here, as there are separate Bots called 'Comfort bots' that handle this.
Murderbot's empathy expressed with Dr Arada flies in direct contradiction with this, so its got Guranthin suspicious. He's a cautious person by nature and cares about those around him, perhaps almost to a fault.
Meanwhile, the love triangle turns into a polyamorous relationship with the three, while Mensah heads out exploring but winds up with big equipment glitches partway up a steep hill. Murderbot recognizes that she's having another panic attack, with the group sending out Drones to keep an eye on her. Mensah though is too stubborn to turn back and when Murderbot chirps in on the audio, she asks how he's doing.
Another of those strange sand worms attempts to attack Mensah but something in the atmosphere causes it to suddenly topple over and collapse. Mensah makes it back to the lab though, while we also see, as the camera pans out, that this area happens to be the side of a crater filled with dozens of skeletal sand worm corpses. Interestingly, there's also a strange translucent shield hovering the area like a dome, which has a strong magnetic grip, evidenced by one of the lab's drones being crushed to pieces when it gets near.
The group believe there could be something underneath the sand, and the alien synthetics at work could explain the gaps in the map they didn't see. They want to look into this in more detail, and that stems from contacting DeltFall Survey, who happen to be another group over on the other side of the planet.
As we pan across to their lab though, things are not looking good. The place is completely wrecked, the alarms are wailing with the SecUnit bot destroyed, and, potentially, something more dangerous at work here. Naturally, Preservation Alliance are going to head in and explore, but they're at least going to take the Murderbot with them, so there is that!
The Episode Review
So Murderbot finishes its second episode with a deeper exploration of the different characters and, more specifically, what it means to be human and how emotion plays into that.
The show has done reasonably well across its opening two episodes to set the scene for the rest of the season, combining comedy, drama and slick sci-fi visuals to good effect. The rest of the series promises to add in some mystery to all of this, especially with this trashed lab and dead bodies.
It's clear that there's something else on this planet – but what? I guess we'll find out in the episodes ahead!

Inside eerie abandoned UK waterpark left a shell of its former self with mould-covered slides & mice running everywhere
A ONCE loved family destination has fallen into ruin with mice running around and mould growing on slides. A TikToker revealed the eerie insides of the now abandoned waterpark in a haunting video. 3 3 Footage shows the park in Northern Ireland fallen into ruin with mice seen running around where children and families once played. The water slides that the attraction was once known for are now falling apart and covered in mould. Left to rot when it was closed down in February 2020 the park has remained untouched since. Haunting footage shows the once bright and vibrant attraction completely abandoned, dark and damp. The facilities have all been left frozen in time with abandoned building explorers the only recent visitors. It seems almost as if people left in a hurry with the park being nearly exactly as it was when it was open. Social media users were left feeling nostalgic by the footage with many recalling fond memories of Waterworld. The park has never been put on the market after it was suddenly closed more than five years ago. TikToker Jaimie, who explores abandoned buildings for fun and shares footage with his followers, recently visited the park. He has also explored several other abandoned sites across Ireland and has built a following from the videos of his explorations. Unsettling footage of Waterworld shows a mouse darting across the bottom of an empty pool. Video also shows clips of the sauna which looks eerily identical to how it did when the site was open. Inside abandoned center parcs Waterworld was also home to a bowling alley which was also left abandoned and frozen in time. The lanes are left dim and unlit, abandoned exactly as they were five years ago. Bowling balls still sit ready to be rolled having been left in the facility when it was emptied. The entire facility was left dark with only the torches of the TikToker and his pal to light it. The local council has been urged to focus on the sale of the abandoned site. Social media users noted that the centre still looks to be in a semi decent condition. Local councillors keep an eye on the abandoned leisure centre, asking for updates on the facility. Jamie's video received over 180,000 views on TikTok. Most were left asking if the waterpark would ever open again with the eerie footage sparking a wave of nostalgia.

Murderbot – Season 1 Episode 4 Recap & Review
Escape Velocity Protocol Episode 4 of Murderbot begins with us back at Corporation Rim at the Threshold Pass in the Fabrication Center. This is where the SecUnits are made, with humans pushed way beyond their capabilities. Of course, anybody who's worked to the bone and not their sharpest are prone to make mistakes, and every part of this process is littered with issues or problems. It's a nice way of showing off the entire production process, throwing shade at factories that make products for thousands and pay their workers pittances. Nice work, Apple! We're then blasted back to the present where MurderBot is dragged up the hallway by its assailant. Dumped on a table, MurderBot bides its time before suddenly singing the Sanctuary Moon theme. It fights off the attacker after, but unfortunately not before it gets the Combat Override Module locked in. Things look hopeless, until Dr Mensah arrives with a mining drill and manages to take out the attacker. As they stumble off the ship, MurderBot is in and out of consciousness, seeing himself on the Sanctuary Moon set and stumbling through the hallways too. Back at the ship, the others are not happy when they find out Pin-wee was ordered back onto the chopper by Mensah. Ratthi grabs a gun and heads out, soon to be joined by the others, as they prepare to fight back. Ratthi hits himself in the head and isn't much help, while Pin-wee manages to drop the ship right on the robot attacker, eventually squashing it. Unfortunately, the damage has been done. The Combat Override Module looks set to switch on and set its sights on them all. Murderbot decides to sacrifice itself though, turning the gun on itself and firing. The Episode Review So Murderbot returns this week with an action-packed episode, one that dives into the morals of this bot and how strangely human it actually is. We still don't know who or what this attacker is and why it's so interested in overriding Murderbot's programming, but I'm sure we'll find out later in the series. The episode works well to add in some drama and comedy in equal measure, interwoven around the story that zips by at a frantic pace. The storyline is nicely structured as a result, and the ending certainly leaves everything wide open for the next episode.
