Aldi's Best of British range returns to stores once again

Aldi's Best of British range returns to stores once again

News.com.aua day ago

Aldi has delighted fans this week by reviving one of its most popular ranges — and shoppers are flocking to their local supermarket to get their hands on it.
The supermarket giant brought back its Best Of British Special Buys range on June 12, featuring beloved snacks and drinks from the UK. It's no secret why the collection is so popular, with 1.1 million Brits living in Australia as of June 2023.
This year's range includes items such as Tunnock's Tea Cakes, with a six pack selling for $5.49. There are also Smith's Crinkle Cut chips in Prawn Cocktail, Worcestershire sauce or Cheese & Pickles flavours for $3.29. Fry's Chocolate Cream or Orange Cream, Swizzels Squashies and Fray Bentos Steak & Kidney Pie also made the cut.
Fans are already all over the product drop, with one social media video clocking more than 900,000 views just revealing some of the items available.
Emma Lake took to TikTok to share the information with her 'fellow Brits in Aus'.
'It is British week at Aldi. This is one of my favourite weeks of the year, where you can stock up on all of the goodies,' she said.
'So they've got all different crisps, chocolates, all different sauces, gravies. Honestly, they had so much in store. This is the first day.'
She did say she noticed some things were missing — such as Toffee Crisps and Mini Cheddars. She also commented that pricing wasn't too bad.
Alisha Carter also called it the 'best week of the year' and said she was heading in-store with a strict mission — to find Prawn Cocktail crisps and Galaxy chocolate.
'But, we'll see what else they have,' she said.
'I have no self restraint when it comes to chocolate so going in here I knew I only wanted to get the Galaxy bars but Caramilk Buttons are like my weakness. The same with these little miniatures.
'Chicken and mushroom pot noodles were also on my to get list but I could not justify paying $3.50 when these are a pound in England.'
She said the goods were 'secured' but would likely only last two weeks in her household before having to go back for more.
Other fans weighed in on the range, with some saying there weren't enough Irish products and others demanded to know why there weren't any Percy Pigs (IYKYK).
'I'm so picking up Swizzels tomorrow!!! Aussie partner has never had any of them before,' one said.
Another asked: 'But is the Yorkshire tea the ACTUAL Yorkshire tea?!? Because the stuff in Woolies/coles isn't proper stuff!'
'That's all well and good but let me know when they've got Gregg's steak bakes,' one added.
An Aldi spokesperson told news.com.au the supermarket chain has been stoked with positive the reaction.
'We have welcomed back our popular British Week range to the Special Buys aisle this week, and we're chuffed to see videos of our customers raving about this year's range online. For those missing home favourites or are British food-curious, it's the time to head over to the middle aisle,' the spokesperson said.
'Fan favourites like Prawn Cocktail and Worcestershire sauce crisps, Galaxy Chocolate Blocks and nostalgic Club Biscuits have made a return as well as some new products that are sure to be a hit, like the Swizzels Squashies.'

Man attempts a day out in Perth with a $50 budget

Perth locals and visitors alike will announce that we are an expensive city — especially during a cost-of-living crisis. However, British content creator George Redfern has put together a video on 'how to' enjoy Perth with only $50 for a full day of eating, activities and getting around. In the video, Redfern explores the city on a Sunday where, with a valid SmartRider, travel on trains, buses and ferries is currently free. He headed to Kings Park, commenting on the views and lush fauna, then made his way to the CBD to popular local toasted sandwich shop Toastface Grillah, spending $10 for his coffee and snack. George Refern Credit: YouTube Redfern then travelled to Herrison Island to see the kangaroos. His activities took him for a hit at the Wembley Golf Course driving range ($13) and then a takeaway alcoholic drink on Cottesloe beach ($5) — with the creator failing to realise drinking alcohol in public places is illegal in Western Australia and can attract up to a $2,000 fine. That could have put a serious dent in his budget. He finished the day in Subiaco, where he ate a plate of fish and chips for dinner. He added that he was surprised by the $18 price tag and the crispness of the chips, something he had not experienced in his native UK. He added a can of soft drink for $3. His total for the day was $49. Whether the creator has shown the best sides of Perth on a budget, or is just after hits and subscribers, is up to locals to decide. George Redfern has nearly five thousand YouTube subscribers and a moderate following on social media with his videos focusing on travelling on a budget — often staying at accommodation on the lower end of the market. After landing in Perth, Redfern put his content creation skills to good use showcasing his take on things sandgropers take for granted.

Influencer's ‘entitled' supermarket act enrages onlookers

In the age of TikTok, influencers are known for their rather unique content creation methods, but one recent video has left onlookers really scratching their heads. The clip, which has gone viral, features influencer Meliss Milan taste-testing a Pandan cake in the fridge section of a Woolworths, while a bemused shopper attempts to grab an item from the shelf she's blocking. Ms Milan took to the video sharing platform to share her latest product find with her followers. 'I am obsessed with Pandan,' she declared, holding up the cake for the camera. 'I got this Pandan Swiss cake, so we're going to give it a go.' As she unwrapped the packaging, she explained, 'I am inside Woolies as we came to get a chocolate mudcake too'. Ms Milan's taste test began with her describing the cake as 'very coconutty, creamy,' and 'so light'. However, her review was cut short when a man, clearly on a mission to grab his own dessert, interrupted her. Ms Milan awkwardly smiled at the camera before stepping aside, allowing the shopper to reach for his item. The onlooker's perspective Meanwhile, another shopper, @codah_h, captured the scene from a distance, dubbing it an 'influencer in real life'. His video shows Ms Milan with her phone propped up against the fridge railing, filming herself in selfie mode. An older man, visibly puzzled, attempts to navigate around her to access the products. 'Of all the places to make a video,' @codah_h remarked, adding in the comments, 'I'm appalled at you being in this man's way when he was just trying to get some dessert'. People weigh in The video was immediately flooded with comments, with many expressing their second-hand embarrassment. 'This is so embarrassing! How is she not embarrassed?' one person questioned. Another added, 'Yeah there's a time and a place … And this isn't it'. 'She couldn't wait until she got home?' one person asked, while others labelled the situation as 'cooked', 'entitled', and 'cringe'. A particularly irked commenter noted, 'It's common KNOWLEDGE to maybe not record in a public place where people need to be able to grab things?' Others empathised with the other shopper, saying, 'Get out of that poor man's way,' and 'I dislike when people are in my way while they're SHOPPING. This would next level irritate me'. Defence for the influencer Despite the backlash, the influencer had her defenders. 'To be fair, she didn't see him … and she moved as soon as he came up to her. You're acting like she stayed in his way after noticing him. It's not that deep,' one person argued. Another chimed in, 'All she was doing was recording a video, harmless. What's embarrassing is all the people jumping on the hate train, not her'. Finally, one fan eloquently encouraged Ms Milan to 'Stay unbothered queen'.
