Preview of NCAA baseball Corvallis Regional Corvallis Regional promises intrigue and competitive postseason baseball games
On Friday, USC baseball will play its first NCAA Tournament game in ten years. The Trojans will compete in the Corvallis regional, opening up play against TCU at noon. College Sports Wire offered some notes on the regional:
"Oregon State didn't play its old longtime foes from the Pac-12 Conference this season -- not in league play, at least. It was a very different year for the Beavers in that regard, but their quality remains undeniable. OSU is the No. 8 national seed. Being a top-eight seed means the Beavers will host the supers if they can get through this weekend.
"TCU is the No. 2 seed here. The Horned Frogs were in contention for an NCAA regional hosting spot, but their loss to Arizona in the Big 12 Tournament title game ruined that pursuit. TCU is the one team outside the Pacific time zone in this regional. The Horned Frogs are the one team making the long commute to the Pacific Northwest. This is a very comfortable commute for USC and Saint Mary's, the other two teams in Corvallis for the weekend."
Oregon State has home-field advantage. TCU has the best overall credentials. USC is playing with house money. Saint Mary's is scoring runs and bunches and just came through a cutthroat West Coast Conference Tournament. This feels like a regional in which just about anything can happen.
