Urgent do not eat warning issued as popular pasta sauce found to contain shards of glass
A popular pasta sauce has been pulled from supermarket shelves over fears the jars contain shards of glass.
Organico Realfoods is recalling Organic Alla Norma Sauce—made with aubergines, tomato and garlic—from all retailers that sell it, including high-end online supermarket, Ocado.
The warning concerns all products with the batch number 140227 and the best before date 14/02/2027.
An alert issued by watchdog the Food Standards Agency (FSA) advised consumers to return the jars to the retailer it was purchased from for a refund.
'If you have bought any of the above product do not eat it,' the agency warned.
The Food Standards Agency issues recalls when problems are spotted with food that means it should not be sold.

Lidl, Tesco, Iceland and more UK supermarket recall warnings
Recalls have been issued on products for a variety of reasons, including metal being found in a popular supermarket snack, and the risk a breakfast food may contain insects. We have rounded up the ongoing product recalls you should be aware of. If you have bought any of the items mentioned below, you need to be aware of these possible health risks. Lidl recall Lidl is recalling one of its products because it may contain pieces of metal. The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has warned anyone who has purchased the recalled item not to eat it. The recall affects Lidl's Harvest Basket Hash Browns. The impacts hash browns come in packs of 750g, have a best before date of May 24, 2027, and a batch code of 5144L. Thursday 12 June: @LidlGB recalls Harvest Basket Hash Browns because they may contain pieces of metal #FoodAlert — Food Standards Agency (@foodgov) June 12, 2025 An FSA spokesman said: 'Lidl GB is recalling the above product. A point of sale notice will be displayed in all retail stores that are selling this product. 'This notice explains to customers why the product is being recalled and tells them what to do if they have bought the product. 'If you have bought the above product, do not eat it. 'Instead, return it to your nearest store for a full refund. For further information contact customer care on or 0203 966 5566.' Recommended Reading: A Lidl spokesman added: 'If you have bought the above product we advise you not to eat it. 'Customers are asked to return this product to the nearest store where a full refund will be given. 'We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your cooperation.' Chocolate recall Shoppers who purchased some Dubai-style chocolate products have been warned the food may not meet Food Standards Agency (FSA) standards. Some of the imported Dubai-style products could pose a risk to consumers with allergies, the food safety watchdog warned. Those with food allergies should be careful when buying the popular chocolate as some imported products may not be intended for sale in the UK and could lack a full ingredients list or allergen labelling, the Food Standards Agency (FSA) said. The watchdog said it had identified a number of products that posed a health risk to consumers with allergies. Some of these products may also contain additives and colours which are not allowed on the UK market, it added. The FSA said it was surveying and sampling the products to work out the scale of the issue, and working with allergy charities in the meantime to raise awareness of the risk with consumers. It said that 'most' Dubai-style chocolate available in UK shops was safe. The FSA said: 'If in doubt, don't buy it and report any concerns to your local authority.' By law, labels must list all ingredients and clearly highlight any of the 14 regulated allergens. The FSA advised consumers to look out for labelling details to check whether a product is intended for sale here. By law, products made to UK standards should have labels in English containing the name of the food – for example, milk chocolate with pistachio paste filling – a list of ingredients with allergens emphasised, the weight of the food in grams and a best before or use by date. Labels must also include the name and address of the UK or EU business responsible for the product information. If the food is not from the UK or EU, the name and address of the importer must be included. Jolly Rancher recall Multiple Jolly Rancher sweets sold in the UK have been recalled as they contain products that make them 'unsafe to eat' and they do not comply with UK laws, the Food Standards Agency (FSA) has warned. Four Jolly Rancher products have been recalled, as the FSA has told anyone who has bought them not to eat them. The affected products are the Jolly Rancher Hard Candy, Jolly Rancher 'Misfits' Gummies, Jolly Rancher Hard Candy Fruity 2 in 1, and the Jolly Rancher Berry Gummies. The recall covers all pack sizes, batch codes, and best before dates of the sweets listed above. They contain Mineral Oil Aromatic Hydrocarbons, (MOAH), and Mineral Oil Saturated Hydrocarbons, (MOSH), making them unsafe to eat. Wednesday 11 June 2025. Food Alert "For Action": To Consumers who have purchased and Food Businesses who have purchased and sold Jolly Rancher products manufactured by The Hershey Company #FoodAlert — Food Standards Agency (@foodgov) June 11, 2025 The FSA said: 'For consumers, don't buy them, and if you've eaten these products, there should be no immediate cause for concern, as food safety risk is low, but don't eat any more. 'These products contain mineral oil, which isn't allowed in food in the UK and may pose a food safety risk if consumed regularly over a sustained period of time.' The FSA said that the Hershey Company, who produces Jolly Rancher sweets, had been working collaboratively to remove unsafe products from the UK markets. It added that while the parent company had decided to stop supplying the UK market in 2024 some businesses still continued to import the products for sale in the UK. An FSA spokesman said: 'Although the levels consumers are exposed to are likely to be low, they may present a risk to health because they contain Mineral Oil Aromatic Hydrocarbons, (MOAH), and Mineral Oil Saturated Hydrocarbons, (MOSH). 'Consumption of the affected sweets is of toxicological concern, especially in younger age groups and where consumers eat a lot of the products or eat them regularly. 'MOAH can cause damage to DNA and has the potential to increase the risk of cancer, particularly if consumed in high quantities over a prolonged period of time. MOAH is a genotoxic carcinogen, therefore no exposure is without risk to human health. 'We are asking enforcement authorities to make immediate contact with businesses who may have been supplied with or received the affected products, and to take action to ensure that the non-compliant and potentially unsafe products are withdrawn from the market and where sold at retail, recalled. 'We are also asking the Local Authorities to inform the FSA of product recall and withdrawal actions. 'If you have bought any of the above products, do not eat them. Instead, dispose of them at home. 'If you are concerned, notify your Trading Standards department or environmental health department in the local authority you purchased it.' Lasagne recall A lasagne has been recalled and a 'do not eat' warning issued after the Food Standards Agency (FSA) warned it could be a 'possible health risk'. Giovanni Rana is recalling its La Famiglia Rana Slow-Cooked Braised Beef Lasagne due to a packaging error. As a result of the error, some packs may contain the Prawn & Lobster Lasagne, despite the label not listing crustaceans as an ingredient. The affected lasagne has a batch code of L0B510816 and a use by date of June 17. An FSA spokesman said: 'Giovanni Rana (UK) Ltd is recalling the above product from customers and has been told to contact the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members about the recall. 'The company has also issued a point-of-sale notice to its customers. These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product. 'If you have bought the above product and have an allergy to crustaceans, do not eat it. Instead return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund (even without a receipt). 'We apologise to consumers and our partners for the impact this will have. 'This recall only affects these specific products and lot codes. All other Tony's Chocolonely products remain safe to consume and are not impacted. 'Do you have a bar with the impacted lot number(s)? Please don't eat the chocolate. Instead, we kindly ask you that you return the product to the store where you bought it for a refund or replacement.' Tesco recall Tesco has recalled one of its products from supermarket shelves across the UK because they may pose a health risk to customers. The supermarket giant has recalled one of its Tesco Free From Meal Kits because they contain undeclared soya. The affected products are the Tesco Free From Katsu Curry Meal Kit, affecting all products with a best before date up to and including December 12. An Iceland spokesman added: 'We are taking the precautionary measure of recalling the dates codes of the above product because it may contain hard pieces of plastic making it unsafe to eat. 'Only the best before date codes listed in this notice are affected. 'If you have purchased any of the above product, DO NOT eat it.' Granola recall A popular breakfast choice sold at Tesco, Ocado, Amazon and other outlets has been recalled because it may contain insects. Rude Health Foods Ltd is recalling its Rude Health Chocolate Crunch Granola because of the possible presence of insects. The affected product is the 400g box of granola with a best before date of October 24. The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has warned anyone who has purchased the granola not to eat it but return it to wherever they bought it for a full refund. 'If you have bought the above product we advise you do not consumer it. 'We sincerely regret any inconvenience caused to our customers.' What is a product recall? If there is a problem with a food product that means it should not be sold, then it might be 'withdrawn' (taken off the shelves) or 'recalled' (when customers are asked to return the product). The FSA issues Product Withdrawal Information Notices and Product Recall Information Notices to let consumers and local authorities know about problems associated with food. In some cases, a 'Food Alert for Action' is issued. This provides local authorities with details of specific actions to be taken on behalf of consumers.

Restaurants and businesses with a zero food hygiene rating in Wales
Restaurants and businesses with a zero food hygiene rating in Wales 'We've realised the tough way that despite our best efforts, they weren't enough,' said one grocer after landing a zero-star rating Establishments with zero ratings for food hygiene, clockwise from top left: Lemon Grass restaurant, Paddock Bakery, Trefnant Inn, and the Golden Bowl restaurant (Image: Google ) More than 30 establishments across Wales have received the worst possible food hygiene rating. The latest list of places with a zero score includes a grocery shop infested with pests and a highly-rated bistro which had a broken boiler. The Food Standards Agency classes businesses with zero stars out of five as needing "urgent" improvement. Council inspectors visit premises and consider how food is handled, stored and prepared. They also look at how clean facilities are and how food safety is managed. If an inspector finds there is an imminent risk to public health they have the power to stop part of the operation or close it down entirely until the issues are addressed. They can also set a deadline for improvements. The information below is publicly available on the Food Standards Agency website. The ratings appear as they do on that site at the time of publication. WalesOnline has made efforts to get a comment from all 34 listed businesses. If yours would like to add a response to this article, please email From superstar gigs to cosy pubs, find out What's On in Wales by signing up to our newsletter here The Paddock Bakery Address: Paddock Inn, Penally, Tenby, Pembrokeshire Business type: Bakery Article continues below Date of inspection: January 22, 2025 Hygienic food handling: Improvement necessary Cleanliness and condition of facilities and building: Major improvement necessary Management of food safety: Major improvement necessary What the business says: In a Facebook post on May 24, the bakery wrote that its doors had closed for the final time "with a heavy heart" after seven years of "highs and lows". For both the bakery and the pub where it was based, rising costs had made the businesses "financially unviable", the post stated. A spokeswoman for the bakery told WalesOnline: "The Paddock Bakery and the Paddock Inn were run by the same people and the breakfasts that were cooked in the Paddock Bakery were cooked in the kitchen of the Paddock Inn. As you will clearly see, The Paddock Inn was rated a five. Either way, none of that matters now as both businesses have permanently closed down due to continuous increasing costs. On top of utilities increasing yet again, business rates increasing, VAT increasing etc, we also had a huge rent increase of 35% on a building where we were tied on our beer (having to pay more than double the cost of every barrel) and had to pay for all repairs and building insurance on a building with a severely damaged roof and extremely dangerous electrics. All of the previous issues then meant that neither business was sustainable." Himalayan Bites Address: Monmouth Square, Cwmbran Business type: Mobile caterer Date of inspection: March 18, 2025 Hygienic food handling: Major improvement necessary Cleanliness and condition of facilities and building: Major improvement necessary Management of food safety: Major improvement necessary Safer food, better business (SFBB) What the business says: The owner of the Nepalese food van said: "The main issue with the business was the documentation, not completing the 'safer food, better business' (SFBB) pack and also monitoring food temperatures and labelling. Since the inspection I have completed my SFBB pack in detail and according to my business needs. Also we have been monitoring the food item and temperature records, and labelling all products. "The other issue was that on the day of inspection we did not have access to hot water from the tap, so we were using kettle water to disinfect, clean, wash our hands. Following reinspection, we have hot water available from our tap. "Our food was not the problem at all. It was more the management side... I was so excited, anxious, thrilled about opening the business that I think I overlooked the critical parts of the business which was the SFBB." The business showed WalesOnline a report from the inspector's revisit last week, showing only one minor issue was found ("ensure your blue roll is in a dispenser"). Blaenavon Post Office Address: 40 Broad Street, Blaenavon, Pontypool, Torfaen Business type: Retailer Date of inspection: April 30, 2025 Hygienic food handling: Generally satisfactory Cleanliness and condition of facilities and building: Improvement necessary Management of food safety: Urgent improvement necessary What the business says: A Post Office spokesperson said: 'The new postmaster for Blaenavon has stated that he will have all recommendations from the inspection completed within 14 days and he intends to invite another inspection.' The Post Office did not respond when asked what hygiene issues had been identified. The Humble Onion Address: Station Road, Dinas Powys, Vale Of Glamorgan Business type: Restaurant Date of inspection: March 22, 2025 Hygienic food handling: Generally satisfactory Cleanliness and condition of facilities and building: Urgent improvement necessary Management of food safety: Major improvement necessary What the business says: The highly-rated bistro, which has an average score of 4.7 stars on Google reviews, says on its website that it is "dedicated to showcasing the finest local produce". When we approached the business for comment, a spokesman said: "At the time of inspection our boiler had gone down and the pilot light wouldn't reignite but despite having it fixed that day you are automatically given a zero until your rescore which we are waiting for at the moment." WalesOnline asked what other issues had been highlighted by the inspector, given there had been serious failings in two categories. The restaurant did not respond. The Golden Bowl Address: 87 Queen Street, Pembroke Dock, Pembrokeshire Business type: Takeaway Date of inspection: February 13, 2025 Hygienic food handling: Major improvement necessary Cleanliness and condition of facilities and building: Improvement necessary Management of food safety: Major improvement necessary What the business says: An employee of the takeaway declined to comment other than to say "everything will be alright in the end". Family Asian Grocery Shop Address: 11 Bodfor Street, Rhyl, Denbighshire Business type: Grocer's Date of inspection: April 10, 2025 Hygienic food handling: Good Cleanliness and condition of facilities and building: Urgent improvement necessary Management of food safety: Major improvement necessary What the business says: The shop issued an apology to any customers who felt "let down" by the rating, adding: " We took over the shop recently and, after stocking our shelves and opening our doors, started to carry out our routine safety checks. We identified some pest activity before the inspector visited and were doing what we thought was necessary to solve the problem. After listening carefully to the officer's advice, we offered to close the business immediately to take the urgent action needed. Thankfully, our hard work was recognised by the local authority when we were given the green light to re-open a few days later. "We've realised the tough way that despite our best efforts, they weren't enough. The inspection has given us a valuable opportunity to learn and make lasting improvements. In addition to our rigorous daily checks, we have appointed new pest control contractors who visit our shop regularly to make sure there is no more activity. We've carried out extensive works to keep our premises secure from pest entry and spotlessly clean. We've also asked a private food safety consultant for his expert advice and are taking on board his helpful tips." A spokesman for the shop told WalesOnline some vegetables were not kept in the fridge as they should have been, but that they are now. He added that holes in the building had been filled and mess in the storeroom had been cleared. Al-Baraka Foods Address: 352 - 354 Stryd Fawr, Bangor, Gwynedd Business type: Grocer's Date of inspection: March 17, 2025 Hygienic food handling: Major improvement necessary Cleanliness and condition of facilities and building: Improvement necessary Management of food safety: Major improvement necessary What the business says: An employee of the shop claimed one of the inspector's concerns was "not a hole, but a small light coming through the middle of the door, which a fly could get through" to a room storing food. He said it was "an old shop" but that all issues had been resolved, adding: "Every year they give us new things but we do everything. It is very clean." On the day of the inspection, we were in the middle of refurbishment and scaffolding had been erected outside the premises. The tools required for the maintenance had been moved inside owing to the recent storms damaging our outside storage. As a result, tools and materials were temporarily being kept in our store room. Although this room does not house any products which are for sale to the general public, this was identified as an area of concern, and this matter has now been addressed. "There was also an issue with one carbon dioxide gas bottle not being adequately tethered to the wall, which we were able to remedy immediately. To clarify matters, the business does not serve freshly-made food, only pre-packaged items such as crisps, nuts and sealed containers of alcohol. The business always complies with the recommended stock rotation procedures, ensuring all products served are within date, and all hygiene requirements regarding drinks and snacks are maintained. None of the issues raised were in respect of food or drink hygiene, but rather due to maintenance and safety issues in respect of the building." The business added that its previous food hygiene rating was three stars, meaning generally satisfactory. Quick Shop Address: 142 Clifton Street, Adamsdown, Cardiff Business type: Convenience shop and bakery Date of inspection: June 11, 2024 Hygienic food handling: Improvement necessary Cleanliness and condition of facilities and building: Generally satisfactory Management of food safety: Urgent improvement necessary What the business says: This was the second zero-star hygiene rating the business had received within six months. Quick Shop did not respond to our latest approach for comment but, in our previous list of zero-rated businesses, the manager Mo Ali told us the shop had "some problems" which led the inspector to order it to close for two days. The bakery area at the back of the shop — where items like keema bread and pistachio baklava were baked — was felt by the inspector to be "dirty" but those issues had been resolved, Mr Ali claimed. He was speaking weeks before the latest damning inspection. Ha Long Bay Mini Mart Address: 157 Commercial Road, Newport Business type: Retailer Date of inspection: June 27, 2024 Hygienic food handling: Generally satisfactory Cleanliness and condition of facilities and building: Generally satisfactory Management of food safety: Urgent improvement necessary What the business says: Following a damning inspection in June, 2023, the shop appeared on our previous list of zero-star food hygiene businesses. Speaking to us on the phone after that inspection, the owner said: "It's not important to me. I'm doing okay, I don't care." He then hung up. Since then, Ha Long Bay Mini Mart has been inspected again and received another score of zero. When we called the shop, the owner said: "It doesn't matter what I got." He then hung up. TH Roberts Coffee Shop Address: Parliament House, Heol Glyndwr, Dolgellau, Gwynedd Business type: Cafe Date of inspection: August 20, 2024 Hygienic food handling: Major improvement necessary Cleanliness and condition of facilities and building: Improvement necessary Management of food safety: Major improvement necessary What the business says: A spokesperson for TH Roberts Coffee Shop said: "We have been a cafe for over 10 years and the menu here has expanded naturally over the years, that is the issue, we are offering too much for the space we have to prepare everything. To rectify this we are developing a new smaller menu that will suit the space we have." Fish, Chips and Burgers Address: Barry Island Pleasure Park, Friars Road, Barry, Vale Of Glamorgan Business type: Mobile caterer Date of inspection: August 29, 2024 Hygienic food handling: Major improvement necessary Cleanliness and condition of facilities and building: Urgent improvement necessary Management of food safety: Urgent improvement necessary What the business says: This was the second zero hygiene score that the chip van, based at Barry Island Pleasure Park amusement park, had received within six months. We asked Fish, Chips and Burgers for a comment on its latest zero but it did not respond. When we ran our previous list of zero-rated businesses, we did get an explanation for the chip van's earlier zero rating, which came after an inspection in March, 2024. Following that inspection, the 80-year-old owner of the amusement park, Henry Danter, told us the tenant business was "having a new fish and chip van next week with all the latest things it needs". He added: "The old one was clean and tidy, but they don't give you stars [for hygiene] unless you have all the modern up-to-date equipment." Mr Danter said the previous van relied on five-gallon containers of water and a boiler, whereas the new one would have hot and cold water from tanks. He added: "It was never a health hazard anyway, otherwise they wouldn't let him operate, would they?" Star Restaurant Address: Green Dragon Lane, Swansea city centre Business type: Takeaway Date of inspection: October 25, 2024 Hygienic food handling: Major improvement necessary Cleanliness and condition of facilities and building: Major improvement necessary Management of food safety: Major improvement necessary What the business says: An employee of the Star said the restaurant had a leaky roof above the kitchen. "We have an old building and it does cause a lot of issues," he told us. "I can't tell you more because I don't know the details but everything has been done already... I think everything will be back to normal. We used to have three stars." Shoppers told range of popular pies 'unsafe to eat'
The manufacturer is recalling a number of its pies over safety fears A selection of pies have been pulled from shelves after they were stamped with an incorrect use-by date, the Food Standards Agency (FSA) has announced. Pieminister Kitchens' range was mistakenly marked to be good until June 24, 2026, not 2025 as intended. Pieminister assured consumers that the pies were produced recently at its Bristol bakery and are fine to enjoy until the correct date, June 24. The firm regretted the 'technical issue' and said: "We are working closely with our technical teams and have implemented additional measures to prevent similar issues from occurring in the future." Products affected, identifiable by the wrong date 24.06.2026 on the packaging, are various types of Pieminister's pies, including names like Moo, Kate and Sidney, Deer and Beer, and Fungi Chicken. Customers are being told by the FSA that they should avoid eating the pies past the proper use-by date and can return them to the purchase location for a refund. The FSA said: "Pieminister Kitchens is recalling various Pieminister pies as they have been labelled with an incorrect use-by date. The products have been labelled with use-by June 24, 2026, instead of use-by June 24, 2025. The products are therefore not safe to eat beyond their intended use-by of June 24 this year."
