Senators push for answers on State Police recruit's death
BOSTON (WWLP) – Five months after the death of a Massachusetts State Police recruit, a group of state senators are requesting a status update on the investigation into his death.
Enrique Delgado-Garcia, a Westfield State University graduate, was 25 years old when he died following a boxing training exercise at the State Police Academy.
His injuries included a neck fracture, a damaged skull, and missing teeth. Worcester Senators Michael Moore, Robyn Kennedy, and Peter Durant penned a letter to the attorney general asking for updates on the investigation into what happened.
They say an estimate of how long the investigation will take, and any preliminary findings would provide comfort to the family. 'Trooper Delgado Garcia's family has patiently waited for answers to some of the hardest questions they will ever have to ask,' said the senators in their letter.
Western Massachusetts Senator John Velis is not one of the letter signers, but he has a unique perspective on the importance of investigating training incidents as a military member. 'I think it's incumbent on all of us, for the individual who lost their lives, as well as their family members, as well as whatever institution you are talking about, to make it better, to find out what happened,' said Velis.
He says finding closure for the family and ensuring similar incidents do not occur again is an essential part of honoring the fallen.
The attorney general's office says they are not able to comment on ongoing investigations.

Ghost guns, drugs seized from Franklin County apartment
FRANKLIN COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM) — A search at a Franklin County apartment in May led to the seizure of multiple 'ghost guns' and drugs, charging documents show. Charges were filed Wednesday against Giovanie Alvira-Garcia, 33, of Chambersburg, after detectives searched an apartment in the 1000 block of SummerBridge Court in Guilford Township on May 20, according to charges filed by the Franklin County Drug Task Force. 400+ bags of marijuana seized after high-speed I-78 chase The charges show two 9mm 'ghost gun' pistols that had no serial numbers were found inside the apartment, along with cocaine, methamphetamine, ecstasy pills, marijuana, and packaging material. The drugs seized had a combined weight of over 500 grams, or 1.1 pounds. 'A 'ghost gun' is a homemade firearm assembled from unfinished gun frames and receivers, often purchased from companies that sell gun parts or parts kits that buyers can use to construct firearms at home, according to Brian Zeiger's firm's website. Alvira-Garcia was sitting inside a vehicle on the property when he was taken into custody after the apartment was searched, the criminal complaint shows. Owner of Billy's C's raw honey in Southwick died in Ohio crash
SOUTHWICK, Mass. (WWLP) – A beekeeper from Southwick was struck and killed by a vehicle while operating farm equipment in Ohio on Wednesday. In a police report 22News obtained from the Oregon Police Department in Ohio, at around 1:26 a.m. on Wednesday, officers were called to Brown Road for a report of a vehicle crash. The report says that a Chevy Silverado was traveling eastbound when it struck a fork-style farm vehicle traveling in the same direction from behind. LIST: Ironman triathlon to cause weekend road closures The driver in the farm vehicle was ejected, and then it went off the road and overturned. He was taken to the St. Vincent Hospital for serious injuries, where he later died. He was identified as 35-year-old William (Billy) Crawford of Southwick, Massachusetts. Crawford is the owner of New England Apiaries on Klaus Anderson Road in Southwick and is known for Billy's C's raw honey. Bill graduated from the Hampden County Beekeepers Association Bee School and started his first beehive. In 2007, he started selling honey from a produce farm he worked at in Westfield before forming Pioneer Valley Apiary in what became New England Apiaries. The posted speed on Brown Road is 50 MPH.
