Police: Dead man found along Martin Highway near offroading park
MARTIN COUNTY — A man was found dead Saturday night on the side of the road in western Martin County not far from an event at an offroading park, police said today.
The man's death is being investigated as a homicide, Martin County sheriff's officials said.
The man, a white male in his late 30s, was found lying along the 26000 block of County Road 714 (Martin Highway) at about 10 p.m. May 31, sheriff's officials said in a Facebook post June 1. He was covered in blood and unresponsive, deputies said.
The site where the man was found is close to PlantBamboo, an offroading park and working cattle farm that offers 'the thrills of mudding, camping and trail riding,' according to its website. Sheriff's officials said the site was hosting Mudfest at the time; the PlantBamboo website indicates that a 'Summer Sling' event was scheduled daily from May 28 to June 1.
Deputies are asking anyone who attended Mudfest and has information about this incident, or who may have witnessed any type of altercation at Mudfest or in the surrounding area, to contact the Martin County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations Division at 772-220-7060, or Treasure Coast Crime Stoppers. Providers of information can remain anonymous.
Detectives said they will release the man's identity at a later date, pending proper notification. The cause and manner of the man's death have not been determined. The Medical Examiner's Office is conducting an autopsy, deputies said.

Jones Beach closed after fight breaks out during senior skip day, police say
Jones Beach was closed Thursday after police say several fights broke out during a senior skip day on Long Island. New York State Parks Police said crowds of high school students from Queens and Nassau County packed the beach for an unsanctioned cut day. Police said it started around 3 p.m. without any issues but escalated a few hours later. The beach was shut down, and the crowd was dispersed. At least one person was seen being taken into custody, but there was no word of any charges. Police said multiple agencies stayed on the scene to make sure the area was safe. Nearby in Long Beach, officials said they shut down the beach to prevent a multi-school party last week. Officials said they have been monitoring social media to track plans for any potential gatherings.
