Julen Lopetegui close to joining Qatar as new head coach
Julen Lopetegui is close to becoming the Qatar national team's new head coach.
A two-year deal in principle has been tabled, with sources close to Lopetegui, speaking on the condition of anonymity, describing the project as 'ambitious'.
The 58-year-old was sacked as West Ham United head coach in January after just six months in charge.

His 22 matches in the role — which brought seven victories, five draws and 10 defeats — was the shortest spell for any permanent head coach in West Ham's history, surpassing David Moyes's first spell at the club (31 games) in 2017-18.
A move to Qatar would represent a first return to international management for Lopetegui since he was dismissed from his role as Spain head coach on the eve of the 2018 World Cup.
Lopetegui was unbeaten across 20 matches in charge of the Spanish national team but was sacked by the Spanish FA (RFEF) after Real Madrid announced they had agreed a deal to appoint him for the 2018-19 season.
He was subsequently dismissed after just 14 matches in charge of Real Madrid — winning six and losing six of his matches at the helm — before joining Sevilla in the summer of 2019, with whom he won the Europa League title in 2020 and guided to three successive top-four finishes in La Liga.
Lopetegui left Sevilla in October 2022 and joined Wolverhampton Wanderers the following month, winning his 10 of 27 matches at the helm before leaving in the summer of 2023.
He previously achieved success as head coach of Spain's youth teams, winning the European Under-19 Championship in 2012 and its Under-21 equivalent the following year, before Lopetegui spent 18 months in charge of Porto.
Lopetegui would replace Luis Garcia, Qatar's former assistant coach who was placed in charge in December following Marquez Lopez's sacking.
Qatar hosted the 2022 World Cup, where they were eliminated in the group stages, and won the Asian Cup in 2019 and 2022.

Aston Villa make approach to sign Jesus Rodriguez from Real Betis
Aston Villa have made an approach to sign Real Betis winger Jesus Rodriguez. The Athletic reported in the Transfer DealSheet on June 3 that Villa are looking increase their wide forward options this summer. Villa's main focus is to balance books before the June 30 profitability and sustainability deadline, but the club also want to sign a wide player and Rodriguez is among the options senior figures have contacted to outline parameters of a potential deal. Advertisement Rodriguez, 19, enjoyed a breakthrough campaign at Betis, scoring three goals in 31 appearances for Manuel Pellegrini's side having graduated through the club's youth system. He is a winger who plays predominantly on the left flank and was a second-half substitute in the side's Conference League final defeat to Chelsea. Rodriguez has appeared three times this calendar year for Spain's under-21 side, while he has started 20 matches for Betis — who recorded a sixth-place finish in La Liga last season. Analysis by Jacob Tanswell Villa are targeting a couple of positions — namely right-back, centre-back and a versatile attacker — but strengthening in the wide areas is needed. Leon Bailey is expected to leave in this window, with Saudi Arabian clubs expressing an interest. This would leave Villa without an archetypal wide player, with Lewis Dobbin expected to go on loan again next season and Samuel Iling-Junior unlikely to get the regular game-time he wants, should he return to Villa after loans at Bologna and Middlesbrough last season. Additionally, there are questions as to whether his long-term future instead lies at left-back. Rodriguez typically operates from the left side at Real Betis but suits Unai Emery's preference for his attackers to be versatile and play in multiple positions across the frontline. Should Villa pursue a deal, the 19-year-old would offer pace and a threat in behind.

How to watch Mexico vs Dominican Republic: Gold Cup stream link, TV channel, team news, prediction
The Dominican Republic men make their Gold Cup debut with a match-up against the tournament's most-successful team: nine-time champions Mexico. A 10th Gold Cup for El Tri would also make them the first back-to-back winners since 2011, and starting this edition with a win over Los Quisqueyanos would be an expected outcome at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. Yet at least some of the debutants won't be too put-off by the occasion. For more on the Dominican Republic and their would-be repeat champion opponents, keep reading, as below is everything you need to know for the first game of the 2025 CONCACAF Gold Cup tournament. How to watch Mexico vs Dominican Republic live, stream link, start time When:10:15pm ET Saturday, June 14 How to watch: FS1, Univision, TUDN Stream online: or the FOX Sports app. Mexico focus, team news El Tri played the friendlies against recent USMNT opponents Switzerland and Turkiye in reverse order, falling 4-2 to Switzerland in Salt Lake, Utah and beating Turkiye 1-0 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Javier Aguirre's men didn't have too many players skip the Gold Cup this year, although Hirving Lozano, Henry Martin, Uriel Antuna, and Luis Romo are absent familiar faces. Fulham's Raul Jimenez, West Ham's Edson Alvarez, Bournemouth's Julian Araujo, Genoa's Johan Vasquez, and seemingly eternal Guillermo Ochoa, now with AVS in Portugal, are all in the fold. Dominican Republic focus, team news Nice's Pablo Rosario has won the Eredivisie and represented the Netherlands at several youth levels, while Junior Firpo helped Leeds to Premier League promotion after spending four seasons between Real Betis and Barcelona. Los Quisqueyanos are coming off a split of World Cup qualifiers, falling 4-2 away to Guatemala and beating Dominica 5-0. Expect to see plenty of Real Madrid prospect Edgar Pujol and Getafe right wing Peter Gonzalez. Mexico vs Dominican Republic prediction Los Quisqueyanos won't be a walkover, but Mexico will want to set a title pace to start the tournament. They are, after all, presumptive favorites along with Canada given the USMNT roster and recent performances. Mexico 3-1 Dominican Republic

Exhaustion – Only Real Madrid Played More Matches Than Inter Milan This Season
Exhaustion – Only Real Madrid Played More Matches Than Inter Milan This Season Only Real Madrid have played more matches than Inter Milan have across the season just gone. Today's print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, note the 'total exhaustion' of the campaign for the Nerazzurri. Advertisement Inter Milan were active across absolutely all fronts last season. The Nerazzurri played 38 matches in Serie A, as usual. Then, in the Coppa Italia, Inter reached the semifinals, meaning four matches in total. There were two matches in the Supercoppa Italiana. And then the Champions League added fifteen matches to the fixture list. Inter reached the final of both competitions, though they lost in both cases. Only Real Madrid Have Played More Matches Than Inter Milan This Season MILAN, ITALY – APRIL 16: Lautaro Martinez of FC Internazionale celebrates with his team-mate Federico Dimarco after scoring their team's first goal during the UEFA Champions League 2024/25 Quarter Final Second Leg match between FC Internazionale Milano and FC Bayern München at San Siro on April 16, 2025 in Milan, Italy. (Photo by) All of these add up to an eye-watering 59 matches for Inter Milan this season. That is just one short of the sixty that the Nerazzurri could have played had they reached the Coppa Italia final. Advertisement Then, there will be the Club World Cup. Next week's group stage opener against Monterrey will be match number sixty for Inter – and they will hit 62 at minimum. That is the number that Real Madrid have played already. Therefore, Los Blancos are the only club in Europe with more matches played than Inter this season. Meanwhile, Paris Saint-Germain played a total of 58 matches this season. PSG have a European Treble to show for their efforts. On the other hand, Inter and Real Madrid finished the campaign empty-handed, as their constant efforts perhaps hindered their pursuit of trophies.
