Men from Merthyr arrested in connection to fatal A465 crash

Two men have been arrested in connection to a fatal crash on the A465.
Gwent Police are investigating a fatal road traffic collision on the A465 westbound, between Rhymney and Dowlais, on Saturday May 31.
Sadly, a 20-year-old man from Brynmawr was pronounced dead at the scene at around 4.50am after his quadbike was found overturned on the westbound carriageway.
A Merthyr man, 40, was arrested on suspicion of murder and driving whilst unfit through drink and driving whilst unfit through drugs.
A second man, 37 and from Merthyr also, was arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice and assisting an offender.
Both were later released on conditional bail as enquiries continue.
Detective Chief Inspector Matthew Edwards, the senior investigating officer, said:
'We're keen to speak to anyone who was travelling along the A465 between the hours of 2am and 5am on Saturday morning, especially motorists with dashcam, as they could have details that might assist our enquiries.
'It is still our view that a second vehicle – a white BMW that was found burnt out in the Dowlais area – may have been involved in the collision.
'If you have any information about this car, then please get in touch.'

The male is due to appear at Dundee Sheriff Court on Thursday, 5 June, 2025 in connection with attempted murder and possession of an offensive weapon. A further four men, aged 24, 36, 46 and 63, have previously been charged in connection with assault and threatening and abusive behaviour. They are the subject of a report to the Procurator Fiscal. Detective Inspector Craig Kelly said yesterday: "Four men have now been charged in connection with this incident, and we hope this provides some reassurance to the local community. "We continue to carry out extensive enquiries and would urge anyone with information who hasn't already spoken to police to get in touch. "We will always act on any information we receive and thoroughly investigate reports of violence or disorder. I would like to thank the public for their assistance so far during this investigation." South Yorkshire Police said officers were called to reports of a road traffic collision on Staniforth Road in the Darnall area shortly after 4.50pm on Wednesday. A 16-year-old male pedestrian was taken to hospital but died of his injuries, while an 18-year-old man, who was the rider of the electric bike, remains in hospital with serious injuries. It was reported that the grey Audi failed to stop at the scene. Police said a man and woman in their forties have been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and remain in custody. Detective Chief Inspector Andy Knowles said: 'We know that this incident will have caused significant concern in the local community, and tonight our thoughts are with the boy's loved ones following this tragic incident. 'Our investigation into what happened is continuing at pace and we currently have a scene in place on Staniforth Road as we continue to piece together the circumstances. 'We are aware of speculation being shared online, as well as footage of the incident, and we ask members of the public to withhold from speculating or sharing footage which may cause distress to the boy's family.
