Amboy bank awards 2025 Student of the Year scholarship
Jun. 1—AMBOY — First National Bank in Amboy President Colleen Henkel named Kenley Wilson as Amboy High School's 2025 Student of the Year during the school's Honor's Night on May 22.
Wilson, who will begin studying biology this fall at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse with aspirations of becoming an optometrist, has been awarded the bank's $5,000 Student of the Year scholarship. This marks the 42nd year the bank has sponsored the award.
In addition to the top honor, nine other students were recognized as Students of the Month for the 2024-2025 school year, each receiving a $500 award. The recipients were Alainie Wittenauer, Tyrah Vaessen, Kenley Wilson, Quinn Leffelman, Addison Pertell, Natalie Pratt, Tyler Huggins, Carson Barlow and Brooklyn Strub.

Mariners right-hander George Kirby takes line drive to face, exits game
SEATTLE — Seattle Mariners right-hander George Kirby exited Tuesday night's game against the Baltimore Orioles after taking a line drive to the face. With two outs in the fifth inning, Kirby threw a fastball inside to Orioles third baseman Ramón Urías, which he promptly ripped right back up the middle. The baseball made contact with Kirby's face, and he immediately jogged off the field as blood flowed from his mouth. Kirby was promptly attended to by the Mariners training staff. Kirby did not return for the sixth inning, although he had already thrown 95 pitches by the time of his departure. Urías was retired on the play since the ball ricocheted off Kirby's face toward first base, and was fielded by Seattle first baseman Rowdy Tellez. ___ AP MLB:

Good Wednesday, everyone — outside today, you will likely notice the heat cranking up in the Philadelphia region. Both Wednesday and Thursday will be very warm and humid, with highs in the upper 80s and low 90s, with lows in the mid-60s. Perfect for those who love that summer sizzle. Friday brings a slight cooldown, with highs in the mid-80s and increasing clouds as the day progresses. On June 8, the Air Quality Index (AQI) hit 425, marking the worst air quality in the city since 1999 and making it the most polluted major city in the world that day.
