Man accused of drug trafficking at Spartanburg Co. motel

SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) – A man is facing drug trafficking charges following his arrest Tuesday at a motel in Spartanburg County.
The Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office charged 23-year-old Benjamin Manuel Palafox with trafficking fentanyl 14 – 28 grams and trafficking methamphetamine 28 – 100 grams.
An investigation was initiated on March 4 when deputies executed a search warrant at a Super 8 motel room located at 488 South Blackstock Road.
During the search, authorities found 14 grams of fentanyl, 37 grams of methamphetamine, 18 Hydrocodone pills and $24,331 cash.
Palafox remains incarcerated at the Spartanburg County Detention Center on a $100,000 bond, deputies said.
The sheriff's office said if the suspect makes bond, he is required to wear GPS monitoring.

One dead in car crash in Cherokee County

CHEROKEE COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) – One person is reported dead following a crash in Cherokee County. The South Carolina Highway Patrol (SCHP) stated that, on June 5, troopers were called out to Boiling Springs Highway near the intersection with Grassy Pine Road, 5 miles north of Gaffney. Authorities said that at 6:14 p.m., a 2013 Ford Sedan was traveling east on Grassy Pine Road, when a 2014 Ford pickup truck hit the Sedan at the intersection. Officers said that the driver and a passenger in the Sedan were injured in the crash. The two victims were transported to Cherokee Medical Center, where the passenger succumbed to their injuries. SLED releases more details of Greenville Co. deputy-involved shooting

GREENVILLE COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) – The SC Law Enforcement Division has released more details regarding a fatal deputy-involved shooting in Greenville County. 51-year-old Johnny Andrew Collins, of Greer, was shot and killed along the 3400 block of Cannon Road on Thursday, May 29. SLED agents shared with 7NEWS that the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office requested assistance from the Greenville County Sheriff's Office to serve warrants for attempted murder and kidnapping. Deputies located Collins near Highway 14 and West Gap Creek Road. It was reported that Collins fled from deputies and ran into a wooded area on Cannon Road. According to SLED, when law enforcement encountered Collins, he was allegedly armed with a hatchet. Investigators said the shooting occurred when Collins reportedly moved toward deputies and raised the hatchet. He was pronounced dead at the scene. No deputies were injured in the shooting, officials said. The investigation remains ongoing by SLED.
