Sheikh Hasan Basha is new chief of AP Haj Committee
Vijayawada: Sheikh Hasan Basha, Chairman of the Andhra Pradesh Haj Committee, announced plans to construct a splendid Haj House in the State. The first meeting of the AP Haj Committee and the election of the chairman took place on Wednesday at the Haj Committee meeting hall here.
Speaking on the occasion, newly elected Chairman Sheikh Hasan Basha assured that, under the committee's guidance, they would provide exemplary services to Haj pilgrims with a spirit of service, noting that the State previously lacked a Haj Committee and a Haj House. He expressed gratitude to the Almighty, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan for giving him this opportunity. Committee members congratulated Sheikh Hasan Basha for being unanimously elected as chairman, stating their commitment to making the committee a model Haj Committee in the country and ensuring facilities for Haj pilgrims.
The election of the Haj Committee Chairman was conducted under the supervision of Returning Officer and Deputy Secretary of the Minority Welfare Department L Sudhakar Rao. Out of 13 members, 10 attended the meeting. Pathan Khadar Ali Khan proposed Sheikh Hasan Basha as a candidate for chairman, and Mirza Abid Hussain Baig was the other choice. The remaining members expressed their approval, and Election Officer L Sudhakar Rao announced that Sheikh Hasan Basha was unanimously elected as chairman of the Andhra Pradesh Haj Committee. Subsequently, the members felicitated Chairman Sheikh Hasan Basha with garlands and extended their best wishes. The event was attended by Executive Officer SMD Ghouse Peer, members of the Andhra Pradesh Haj Committee and others.

The Speaker, who returned to Mangaluru from Haj pilgrimage on June 11, said, before leaving for the Haj, he had asked the earlier officials — Mr. Agrawal and Mr. Yathish — to trace hate-mongers sitting abroad. 'But they had expressed their helplessness in taking action against them.' Referring to the effective way in which the newly-posted officials are acting against hate-mongers, Mr. Khader expressed the need to put in place a standard operating procedure by which there will be uniformity in the way officials act against hate-mongers. 'I will write to Home Minister (G. Parameshwara) in this regard. I will also ask him to find reasons why earlier officials failed to act effectively against hate-mongers.' The mob lynching and two murders have hit the harmonious culture and lifestyle of Dakshina Kannada. Not just the government, but all should contribute to restore peace and harmony in the district, Mr. Khader said.

QRT to address grievances of Hajis from next year: Ansari
In view of complaints from Haj pilgrims regarding accommodation in Mina, Saudi Arabia, Uttar Pradesh minister of state for minority welfare, Muslim waqf and Haj Danish Azad Ansari said a quick response team (QRT) would be formed from next year to address such issues promptly. 'This year during Haj, I received some complaints about the accommodation in tents in Mina. I ensured all the issues were resolved within hours even as I personally monitored the situation round the clock. However, from next year, we will form a QRT that will oversee the arrangements and provide prompt solutions to any problems faced by Hajis,' said Ansari, who also serves as the chairman of the State Haj Committee, while speaking to HT. Ansari, who will receive the first batch of U.P's Haj pilgrims arriving from Jeddah to Lucknow at around 12:35 am on Thursday via Air India flight (SV3106), said, 'It's a matter of joy that Hajis will start returning on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday. I will also seek their suggestions to improve the process from next year.' This year, over 5,000 Haj pilgrims departed from the Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport in Lucknow, while others left from Delhi Airport. Earlier, on April 29, a bus ferrying Haj pilgrims was flagged off by cabinet minister OP Rajbhar and Ansari at the Haj House in Lucknow. A total of 15,513 people from U.P. had applied for Haj this year, and all were granted approval.

MEA slams 'fake' reports on Saudi visa issue, says temporary restrictions on short term visas during Haj
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Monday termed media reports of Saudi Arabia suspending issuance of block work visas for citizens from 14 countries, including India, as "fake", asserting that the Saudi government has not issued any notification on the matter. "This CLAIM is FALSE. FACT: The Saudi Government has not issued any notification on this matter. As a matter of practice, during the Haj season, there are temporary restrictions on short term visas to avoid overcrowding during this season, which end with the conclusion of Haj," the MEA's official FactCheck account posted on X. Earlier in the day, foreign policy experts had debunked reports and claims made by some opposition leaders about Saudi Arabia visa halt, asserting that the "temporary decision" would not affect the sturdy relationship between both nations. Government sources had made it clear that Saudi Arabia's move to temporarily halt Umrah, business, and family visit visas for 14 countries, including India, from April to June 2025, was to manage the massive Haj crowds and ensure safety. "The suspension is a result of logistical, not political, compulsions as restrictions have been imposed on granting short-term visas to avoid overcrowding during the Haj season," said an official. Saudi authorities, which strictly controls Haj, have stated that multiple-entry visas were being misused. Some travellers entered the country on long-term visas but remained illegally for work or performed Haj without proper authorization. The over-crowding has also become a serious issue due to unauthorised pilgrims using long-term visit visas to bypass restrictions. This issue became particularly alarming in June 2024 when over 1300 pilgrims died due to overcrowding and extreme heat as temperatures exceeded 50 degree Celsius. Saudi authorities believe unregistered pilgrims significantly contributed to the crisis, necessitating tighter visa regulations. By restricting travel to single-entry visas, the Saudi government aims to ensure that only authorized pilgrims perform Haj, reducing risks associated with unregulated attendance. Saudi Arabia has called this suspension a temporary measure, but no timeline has been provided for a review. The Saudi government will monitor the impact before making further decisions. Despite such temporary restrictions, the Saudi government remains focused on expanding tourism with India under the Vision 2030 initiative. The bilateral trade between the two countries touched USD $43.36 billion in FY-2023-24. During Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the country last month, India and Saudi Arabia signed USD $100 billion worth of agreements in energy, infrastructure, security, and innovation sectors, strengthening bilateral trade and investment relations. India's fifth-largest trading partner, Saudi Arabia continues to align its economic priorities amidst global market turbulence and energy realignments.
