Bayern Munich star makes feelings clear on Liverpool signing Florian Wirtz

Joshua Kimmich pulled no punches when asked about Bayern Munich's transfer needs this summer after Florian Wirtz chose to join Liverpool instead of Bundesliga champions Joshua Kimmich has claimed Bayern Munich are now light in attack after the club lost out to Liverpool in the race to sign Germany star Florian Wirtz. And midfielder Kimmich claimed he has been taken aback by Leroy Sane's decision to leave the Bundesliga champions for Galatasaray, while Thomas Muller's departure also hurts them in the final third. ‌ Bayern face Auckland City in their Group C opener at the controversial Club World Cup on Sunday afternoon and asked before the game about Wirtz, who is set to complete a British record switch to Anfield in the coming days, Kimmich pulled no punches. ‌ "You'll have to ask the club what their plans are," he said. "Of course, you have the feeling that we could do something – with Flo (Wirtz) not coming, with Leroy leaving, with Thomas leaving. 'I was surprised that (Sane) is going to Turkey. I didn't expect that. But it's his decision and he'll have his reasons for it.' Kimmich's comments follow sporting director Max Eberl admitting that the Bavarians would not have been able to match the fee paid by Liverpool for 'outstanding' Wirtz. But Eberl insisted there is a clear strategy in place this summer and the free agent arrivals of Tom Bischof and Jonathan Tah are a stride in the right direction. Eberl said: "I am sure that we will have a competitive team - and that we will also have the finances under control. If I'm honest, I don't know if we could have paid what Liverpool are apparently paying now. ‌ "Florian Wirtz is an outstanding player. We could have imagined signing him. But when a door closes, another opens. The focus is on the squad we have here. We've brought along some young players, and now we've added two Germany internationals in Tom Bischof and Jonathan Tah, who have come in on free transfers. That's already a big step. 'We have a clear plan on how we want to implement things. But there's still a lot to do. I'm certain we will have a very strong squad."

Arsenal switch to £70m target after growing 'fed up' with Gyokeres transfer saga

Arsenal have turned their attentions to RB Leipzig forward Benjamin Sesko after growing 'fed up' with Sporting's demands for Viktor Gyokeres, according to reports in Portugal. The Gunners have made signing a new striker their absolute priority for the summer after once again finishing the season without any silverware under Mikel Arteta. The club's inactivity over the last two transfer windows has drawn criticism from supporters and pundits alike – and season-ending injuries to both Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz only intensified the sense of frustration amongst the fanbase in the second half of the campaign. Determined to put things right, Arsenal's newly appointed sporting director, Andrea Berta, is working tirelessly behind the scenes with a view to adding firepower to Arteta's attack, with Gyokeres identified as the north Londoners' primary target. Gyokeres further established himself as one of the most sought-after centre-forwards in world football last season as he racked up 54 goals and 13 assists to help steer Sporting to a domestic double. But while Gyokeres is keen to push through a switch to the Emirates, the player's agent, Hasan Cetinkaya, has become embroiled in a bitter feud with Sporting's president, Frederico Varandas, over a proposed transfer fee for the Primeira Liga top scorer. Gyokeres had been under the impression he could leave Sporting should the club receive an offer of £59million, but Varandas is denying the existence of a supposed gentleman's agreement with the Swede's camp. According to Portuguese outlet Record, this has prompted Arsenal to 'freeze' their pursuit of Gyokeres, with Sporting's €80million (£68m) asking price deemed too expensive for a 27-year-old with no previous experience in Europe's top five leagues. As a result, it's claimed Gyokeres is no longer Arsenal's number-one target. Instead, Sesko has been placed at the top of the club's shortlist 'in the last few hours'. The report suggests Arsenal also remain keen on Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins following an unsuccessful £60m bid for the England international in the January transfer window. Arsenal began talks with RB Leipzig over a possible move for Sesko since last month, but there has been little progress regarding a proposed deal, with the Bundesliga club demanding £70m for the Slovenian. The Gunners may also have to fend off strong competition from Saudi Pro League outfit A-Hilal to land the 22-year-old attacker this summer. 'Benjamin Sesko and Saudi Arabia? I would advise him to never go there, at least not at his age,' Slovenia's head coach Matjaz Kek said of Al-Hilal's links to Sesko. Though Kek enjoyed his time managing Al-Ittihad in Saudi Arabia, he is convinced Sesko should only be considering Europe's top clubs. On the interest Sesko has attracted from the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea, AC Milan and Juventus, Kek said: 'This is a great recognition, these are clubs that mean a lot. It's not that I underestimate the Saudi Pro League. On the contrary, I worked there at Al-Ittihad and the club is still a part of me. 'I also watch the league regularly… but the time will come for Benjamin Sesko for that. 'I am convinced that Benjamin himself and the people who care for him will be smart enough to make the right solution. More Trending 'That means going somewhere where he can play football because that is the only way he can be happy.' Sesko was named in Slovenia's squad for the side's friendly matches against Luxembourg and Bosnia and Herzegovina this month. However, the former Red Bull Salzburg man played no part in either contest to avoid the risk of injury, with talks over his future rumbling on behind the scenes. Sesko has notched 39 goals in 87 games for RB Leipzig and is tied into a deal at Red Bull Arena until June 2029. For more stories like this, check our sport page. Tottenham complete permanent signing of Mathys Tel on six-year deal

The 20-year-old forward spent the second half of last season on loan from the Bundesliga champions and scored three goals in 20 appearances. The loan included an option for Spurs to make the deal permanent for £45.8million, however the PA news agency understands the club successfully negotiated the fee down to £29.8m. We are delighted to announce the permanent signing of Mathys Tel from Bayern Munich on a contract that will run until 2031 ✍️ — Tottenham Hotspur (@SpursOfficial) June 15, 2025 Having moved to Bayern from Rennes in 2022 he initially enjoyed a significant role, playing 69 times during his first two seasons before falling out of favour when Vincent Kompany was appointed a year ago. He made only eight league appearances during the first half of last season before being loaned to Spurs – whom he initially turned down before an abrupt change of heart late in the January transfer window. The club finished 17th in the Premier League, their lowest-ever finish, but qualified for the Champions League courtesy of their 1-0 win over Manchester United in the Europa League final. Tel, who was an unused substitute in the final in Bilbao, is currently representing France at the under-21 European Championships in Slovakia alongside team-mate Wilson Odobert, and scored his team's opening goal of the tournament, a penalty in Saturday's 3-2 win over Georgia. Bayern's director of football Max Eberl said: 'Mathys Tel came to FC Bayern as a very young player and took his first steps into top-level international football here. 'He was a popular figure in our team, always giving his all for the club and the team. It has become clear that the move to Tottenham was the right one for his development.'
