Secret 'spicy island' in European holiday hotspot where Brits romp on sunbeds
While the secret island doesn't show up on maps, hundred of adventurous Brits escape there every summer where connections are anything but conventional
"You're on an island where anything goes, but it feels incredibly safe nothing happens without consent. It's like Disneyland for swingers" - so says one of the holidaymakers to the so-called 'Spicy Island', where Brits indulge in their wildest fantasies.
Amanda Leigh, a 38-year-old dancer, found unexpected freedom in a hidden swingers ' haven off Croatia's coast. She anticipated a "hot girl summer" but ended up meeting her now-partner Alex, during a skinny-dipping adventure amid strangers.
Her journey into the swinging lifestyle began over a decade ago at an adult-only resort in Mexico. Now, she's a seasoned participant, with Spicy Island being her destination of choice.
"Last year I met Alex and this year we're ready to open our relationship up," Amanda shares. "I want to fulfil the 'hot wife' fantasy and I'm looking forward to exploring this further."
The exclusive two-week getaway, now in its third edition, is run by Spicy Match, who take over the entire island for as many as 600 guests. The secret location is revealed only once attendees board on the boat from the mainland.
The ticket prices range from £1,000 for a simple bell tent to £2,500 for a luxurious two-bedroom sun lodge, complete with meals, fire-eaters and educational sex seminars.
"You only find out where it is when you get on the boat," reveals Amanda. It was on this mysterious hour-long boat ride that she encountered Alex, a spa technician.
"I couldn't get over how hot Alex was," she confesses. "We started flirting right then and there, and by the third night we were together while skinny-dipping in the pool."
The pair didn't end up swinging with anyone else, instead spending the trip getting to know one another. Amanda says the sex was "incredible" and finds the freedom of being intimate on the beach or in front of others "very liberating".
Upon arrival, guests are greeted with a welcome bag containing condoms and wristbands to tell them apart from staff. Video recording guests is banned, but stripping down is encouraged.
The resort designates "play area" zones for various interests - couples, singles, and those into BDSM.
Amanda wants to set the record straight on swinging, noting: "People think swingers are gross or glorified cheaters. But it's about consent and communication. You're free from unwanted advances - it's nothing like a standard nightclub."
The island attracts people of all ages, including James and Katherine Gordon, 55-year-old sweethearts from Kent who have been swinging since their teens.
Katherine shares with confidence: "We've been to swingers events all over the world; the island ranks at the top. We'll literally say, we're into full swapping and single men."
Before arriving, they'd already connected with others online and planned to meet for dinner in the port town. "Last year, 40 of us had dinner together the night before we left," Katherine recounts. "It's easy to build connections before you've even arrived."
She admits her preference for younger men often takes the lead when it comes to flirting. James humorously remarks that he is content to "outsource" these days, admitting he can't keep up.
"The meals on the island are communal, so we sit next to people we think we'll vibe with," she continues. "You flirt like you would in any bar or club."
Katherine reveals that while she may be reserved in day-to-day life, this lifestyle unveils a more audacious side of her. They reserve a two-bed lodge, dedicating one room for rest and the other for enjoyment.
"It just suits us better," she confides. "And after 30 years, we've made a lot of friends here."
She describes the atmosphere as inviting: "You might see people having sex on verandas or making out on shared beds or you might find someone quietly reading a book."
Meanwhile, Katie Jones, 38, and husband Simon, 49, from Hertfordshire, gear up for their second jaunt to the island, having stumbled upon it during a trip to the French naturist resort Cap d'Agde.
Embracing the liberty to be nude, unwind or participate, Katie shares, "You can find a quiet spot or join the pool parties - there's an amazing energy."
Despite the anything-goes atmosphere, she notes that the retreat doesn't rely on booze to get the party started. "People don't get too drunk because it's about sex and alcohol doesn't help with that."
She describes the event as liberating and relaxed. "If you're curious, you can come and see what you find. You don't have to swing but it's all there if you want it."

ITV star '30 seconds from death' after shark ripped hand and hamstring off
Paul de Gelder nearly died in 2009 when a bull shark attacked him in Sydney Harbour - now he's instructing the stars in diving for new series Shark! Celebrity Infested Waters An expert teaching the celebs to dive in ITV's upcoming series Shark! was mauled by a bull shark in 2009, which left him '30 seconds from death.' Aussie Paul de Gelder, 48, was subjected to a frenzied eight-second attack in Sydney Harbour during a training exercise with the Navy, which left him in 'total agony' as his right hand was bitten off and his hamstring was ripped out of his leg. Afterwards, a doctor told him that his life had been saved by one of the Navy team, who pinched closed the artery in his leg to stem the blood flow. De Gelder - presenter of Discovery's Shark Week - had been terrified of sharks since boyhood, but having researched them since the attack 15 years ago, is now dedicated to their conservation. He believes the bull shark went for him because a corpse had been found in the harbour the previous day - and it thought he was another one and an easy meal. Announcing his involvement in Shark! Celebrity Infested Waters, de Gelder posted a picture of Lenny Henry and the rest of the reality recruits, saying: 'Did a little thing with a bunch of Brits. It was an amazing experience meeting and working with this group of legends.' Remembering his encounter with the bull shark, he has previously told how his life flashed before his eyes as he felt unimaginable pain. 'The shark grabbed me by my right hand and the back of my right leg in the same bite. It dragged me underwater and started thrashing me about. I tried to fight it off, but it had my hand, so I couldn't do anything with it,' he explained in an interview. As a schoolboy, he'd been taught to hit a shark in the eye in the event of being bitten, but he said: 'My left hand couldn't reach the shark's eye, and when I tried to punch it in the nose, it started shaking me. The pain was just so all-encompassing that the fight just went out of me. I was a rag doll in this monster's mouth while getting thrashed around underwater. I was in total agony and drowning at the same time.' Despite his terrible injuries, when the shark suddenly released him, he seized his chance to escape. 'I popped to the surface. That's when I realised I had survived this nightmare encounter. I started to swim back to my safety boat, and I took a stroke with my right arm, only to realise my hand wasn't there. My arm ended at the end of my wetsuit.' De Gelder's medical training kicked in, and he did what he could to slow the bleeding from his hand by holding it high as he swam towards the boat, which was coming for him. 'At that point, I had no clue that my whole hamstring was gone and that I had an arterial bleed from my leg.' He passed out once pulled onto the boat by his colleagues and, fearing he'd gone into cardiac arrest, one of them straddled him to perform CPR to keep his heart going while another acted to stem the bleeding. 'One of my doctors said if one of my mates hadn't reached into my leg to pinch close the artery, I would've died within 30 seconds," he has recalled. De Gelder, who is married and now lives in Los Angeles, spent nine weeks in hospital and astonishingly returned to military training six months later but a couple of years on he'd had enough. 'I was teaching people to do this thing that I love without ever getting to do it myself, and it was torture,' he explained. Interest in what he'd been through remained high however, and a few years later a broadcaster invited him on a trip to Fiji where he'd come face to face with the very species of shark that maimed him. He says that at the time he saw it as the chance for a free holiday, but the experience actually led to him leaving the Navy and starting a new career as a conservationist after spending time with 150 bull sharks, which affected his whole outlook. 'Being eaten alive may have changed my body, but spending time with these creatures is what really altered my mind,' he explained. It helped him overcome his fear of public speaking and by 2014 he had moved to Los Angeles to work on Shark Week for Discovery. He now takes celebs and regular people to meet sharks in their natural habitat. 'I've introduced sharks to lots of different people and every time they come out of the water, they say it has shifted something inside them.' De Gelder is now described as an 'unconventional conservationist' and his aim is to stop the widespread slaughter of sharks, which sees 100 million killed annually - a figure which he believes doubles when unofficial, unregulated and illegal activities are included. The shark population is estimated to have dropped by 70% since 1970, the start of the decade in which Jaws was released. 'If you did to land-based wildlife what we do to sharks, you'd go to jail for it, no question,' he said in a recent interview. 'But because it's unseen, out there in the deep blue sea, it goes unnoticed.' He wants to do everything he can to help save sharks, which is why he jumped at the chance to appear in the new ITV series, which starts next month and also stars Countdown's Rachel Riley, McFly's Dougie Poynter and Call the Midwife's H elen George. 'I'm adamant about speaking up for this animal that doesn't have a voice, it doesn't scream when you torture it, and so it's somehow looked upon as less,' he has explained. 'They feel, they suffer, and they need our help.'

The restored heritage train will be running along the Piccadilly line from Friday, July 11 to Sunday, July 13. However, you won't be paying the normal tube fare. Riders will need to buy a ticket in advance, with prices varying according to each day. On Friday, the train will take passengers on a return journey from Northfields and around the Heathrow loop via Terminal 4. There will be four services throughout the day and a 'gold ticket' for the front carriage is £30 per adult and £20 for kids. Bronze tickets costs £25 per adult and £15 per child. On the Saturday, there will be three 90-minute return journeys from Acton Town to Uxbridge. Tickets for these rides will cost £27.50 if you want to sit in the front or back carriages or £17.50 for children. The rest of the carriages will cost £25 per adult and £15 for children. Huge new £1.3billion redevelopment to create new 'cultural hub' in London On the final day - Sunday - riders can hop on for one of two one-way journeys from Ealing Broadway to Cockfosters for £30 in the gold car, or £20 for children. Or £25 for the bronze cars (£15 for children). Tickets can be booked on the London Transport Museums' website. According to Transport for London, the Piccadilly line opened as the Great Northern, Piccadilly & Brompton Railway on 15 December 1906. Originally, it ran between Finsbury Park and Hammersmith and the line remained much the same until the 1930s when it expanded rapidly, incorporating stations which are now regarded as classic examples of period architecture. A £100milllion beachfront attraction with indoor gardens and pools is also set to transform a seaside town.
