Two notorious criminals held after encounter; wanted in over 60 cases
A dramatic late night police encounter unfolded in Muzaffarnagar district on Saturday, as two dreaded criminals were shot at and arrested during a confrontation near the Sambhalhera-Kutubpur canal track in the Mirapur police station area. The duo, wanted in over 60 serious criminal cases across several districts, was nabbed while allegedly planning a major crime in the region.
The incident occurred when a police team signalled a suspicious motorcycle to stop during routine vehicle checks. Instead of complying, the riders attempted to flee. In their attempt to escape, they fell off the bike and opened fire on the police. The officers retaliated in self-defense, injuring both men in the legs. They were immediately taken into custody and admitted to a hospital for treatment. Authorities confirmed that their condition is stable.
The accused were identified as Surendra, resident of Ganeshpur under the Sardhana police station in Meerut, and Irfan alias Golu, originally from Saddikpur in Hapur's Pilkhuwa police station area but currently residing in Sardhana.
Surendra has a staggering 47 criminal cases filed against him in Meerut, Bulandshahr, Muzaffarnagar, Ghaziabad, and Baghpat. Irfan alias Golu faces over 14 serious charges, including sections 395 (dacoity), 307 (attempt to murder), along with cases under the Gangster Act and the Arms Act.
During interrogation, both men confessed to being part of an organised gang that specialised in stealing transformers, electrical equipment, and carrying out dacoities. They revealed they were in Muzaffarnagar to conduct reconnaissance for a significant heist, but were thwarted by the swift action of the local police.
From the encounter site, police recovered two country-made pistols, four live cartridges, two used cartridge shells, and a stolen motorcycle.
The operation was conducted under the direct supervision of ADG (Meerut Zone) and DIG (Saharanpur Range). It was executed under the leadership of SP (Rural) and Circle Officer (CO) Jansath, following directives from Muzaffarnagar SSP Sanjay Kumar.
CO Yatendra Nagar described the duo as hardened criminals with long-standing involvement in organised crime. He confirmed that interrogations are ongoing and multiple police teams are conducting raids to arrest their accomplices and dismantle the wider criminal network.

NIA files chargesheet against Goldy Brar, four others in Gurugram club blasts case
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a chargesheet against five persons, including Canada-based designated 'terrorist' Satinderjit Singh alias Goldy Brar, in connection with the 2024 twin bomb attacks at clubs in Gurugram, Haryana. The others named in the chargesheet are Sachin Taliyan, Ankit, Bhawish, and U.S.-based Randeep Singh alias Randeep Malik. The NIA has invoked provisions under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Arms Act, the Explosive Substances Act, and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. 'Barring Goldy Brar and Randeep Malik, all others have been arrested in the case,' the agency stated. The NIA said its probe had found the accused to be involved in the conspiracy to bomb the Warehouse Club and the Human Club, both located in Sector 29, Gurugram. The attacks were allegedly part of a broader plan by the proscribed terrorist organisation Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) to 'spread communal disharmony and disrupt peace' in Haryana and neighbouring regions by unleashing violence. 'The attack, perpetrated by members and cadres of the proscribed BKI terror outfit, took place on December 10, 2024. NIA investigations later revealed that the deep-rooted terror conspiracy was hatched by Goldy Brar and his associates...,' the agency alleged in its statement. According to the NIA, the group forms part of a 'terror syndicate' that is actively engaged in extortion, raising funds for terror activities, procuring arms, ammunition and explosives, and 'promoting terror amongst the common people to threaten the integrity, security (including economic security), and sovereignty of the country.'

Woman Maoist operative on the run for 15 years arrested in Bihar
Patna: In a significant breakthrough in the ongoing anti-LWE operations, the Jamui Police in Bihar on Saturday arrested Sarita Soren a.k.a. Sita Soren, a female Maoist operative who had been absconding for the last 15 years. The arrest took place near Karma village, an official said. The development marks the second major success within three days for the district police as the force on Thursday nabbed another long-absconding Maoist operative involved in serious cases from as far back as 2005. Jamui Superintendent of Police Madan Kumar Anand confirmed the arrest and said that Sarita Soren had been on the police radar for years but consistently evaded capture. Acting on an Intelligence input, a joint team comprising Jamui Police, STF personnel, and officers from the technical cell launched a swift operation and surrounded her maternal home in Karma, successfully apprehending her. "Sarita Soren was involved in the 2010 Maoist attack in Chakai which claimed two lives. She also served as a key member of the female Maoist squad," SP Anand stated. Several cases, including charges under the Arms Act and murder, are registered against her. Her prolonged evasion and strategic role within the Maoist ranks made her one of the most wanted operatives in the region. The police consider her arrest a major blow to Maoist activities in the Jhajha-Chakai belt. Earlier on Thursday, Jamui Police arrested Naresh Ravidas a.k.a. Patal Ravidas, a notorious Maoist operative and former area commander, from Teliyadih village under the Jhajha police station area. On January 5, 2005, he was allegedly involved in the ambush and killed then Munger SP K.C. Surendra Babu and five other police personnel in the Bhimbandh forest area. The deadly attack near Peshra village sent shockwaves across Bihar and exposed critical gaps in the state's security preparedness at that time. In 2008, he was also accused of being involved in a Maoist attack at Belhar village that claimed five lives of innocent civilians in Banka district. The back-to-back arrests reflect increased pressure on Naxalite groups in Bihar and reinforce the state police's commitment to dismantling remaining insurgent networks.
