KUALA LUMPUR: 99 Speed Mart Retail Holdings Bhd's net profit for the first quarter ended March 31, 2025 (1Q 2025) rose to RM143.18 million from RM133.15 million in the same period last year.
Revenue for the quarter under review increased to RM2.61 billion from RM2.43 billion previously, marking a 7.7 per cent rise, driven by the year-on-year expansion of 246 new outlets, bringing the total number of outlets to 2,833 as at March 31, 2025.
In a filing with Bursa Malaysia today, the home improvement retailer said the higher revenue led to an 11.3 per cent increase in gross profit to RM314.5 million, accompanied by a slight improvement in the gross profit margin.
"(This was) mainly due to the increase in promotional discounts and achievement of target incentives in the 1Q 2025," it said.
On prospects, the group said it remains committed to promoting affordability and accessibility.
"This commitment is reflected in our pricing strategies, carefully curated product selections, and strategic outlet placements, ensuring that everyday essentials remain within reach for all segments of the community.
"Through this approach, we aim to enhance customer convenience and support cost-conscious households, while reinforcing our role as a trusted and inclusive retail brand," it said.
The company said it is targeting the commencement of operations for a new distribution centre in Cyberjaya, Selangor, by the 2Q 2025.
"With a built-up area of approximately 120,000 square feet, this facility is expected to support around 200 outlets in and around the Cyberjaya region, while further enhancing the distribution capacity of our bulk sales e-commerce platform," it said.
The company also declared a first interim dividend of 2.25 sen per ordinary share, amounting to approximately RM189.0 million, in respect of the financial year ending Dec 31, 2025, payable on June 9, 2025.

Turnover stood at 530 million units, valued at RM245.87 million. Rakuten Trade Sdn Bhd said the FBM KLCI managed toclimb higher on Monday following a stop-start session as foreign selling still persists. The firm said the local bourse has endured of more than RM11 billion of net foreign outflows year-to-day as most are diverting their attention to the more robust Hong Kong market. "No thanks to Trump's flip-flop tariff policy, consensus have downgraded overall earnings by corporate Malaysia namely the banks hence the lackluster interests on the local equities. "For today, we anticipate the index to trend within the 1,515-1,525 range," it added. Rakuten said Wall Street ended flat with little changes to all three major indices. It said that traders were mostly side-lined while waiting for the outcome from the discussion between China and the US. Amid the prevailing uncertainty, the US 10-year yield slipped to 4.476 per cent. Meanwhile in Hong Kong, the Hang Seng Index reversed last Friday's losses to close above the 24,000 mark as sentiment was boosted by China's May consumer price index though still weak, it is better than expected and could be a prelude for more easing policies from China going forward.

Bursa ends slightly lower, tracking regional markets
KUALA LUMPUR : Bursa Malaysia ended the week slightly lower, tracking the negative performance seen across regional markets, particularly among emerging markets, an analyst said. Rakuten Trade Sdn Bhd vice-president of equity research Thong Pak Leng told Bernama that key regional indices ended mixed as investors remained cautious, awaiting further signals on trade negotiations between the US and key regional players, especially China. Besides, he said that the weak performance on Wall Street overnight hurt market sentiment globally. Meanwhile, UOB Kay Hian Wealth Advisors Sdn Bhd head of investment research Sedek Jantan said the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) posted a marginal decline, despite yesterday's notable technical rebound, which helped cushion broader losses. He said gains were concentrated mainly in select index constituents, supported by short-term technical recovery and renewed optimism surrounding data centre-related themes. However, foreign investors continued to pare down their holdings in Malaysian equities, marking a third consecutive week of net selling. Additionally, although US president Donald Trump described his phone conversation with Chinese president Xi Jinping as 'very good', the remarks failed to lift sentiment meaningfully. Asian markets closed mixed, with major Chinese indices ending in negative territory, highlighting persistent investor caution amid unresolved geopolitical and macroeconomic headwinds. Meanwhile, risk sentiment on Wall Street was briefly pressured by a public feud between Trump and businessman Elon Musk, centred on threats to revoke Musk's government contracts. 'At this stage, we view the issue as isolated, with limited impact on the broader technology sector in both the US and Malaysian markets,' said Sedek. At 5pm, the FBM KLCI was down 0.08%, or 1.33 points, to 1,516.79 from yesterday's close of 1,518.12.
