GOF seizes over RM800,000 worth of ‘Royal Cannabis' in Pasir Mas
PASIR MAS: A team from the General Operations Force (GOF) Ninth Battalion seized 22.5 kilogrammes (kg) of compressed 'Royal Cannabis' ganja, valued at over RM800,000, in an operation near Banggol Kulim here today.
GOF Southeast Brigade Commander Datuk Nik Ros Azhan Nik Ab Hamid said the seizure was made when a patrol team spotted a Proton Wira Aeroback driven by a man behaving suspiciously at around 6 am.
'GOF personnel pursued the car, prompting the driver to speed up to evade arrest before abandoning the vehicle by the roadside with the engine still running,' he said when contacted by reporters today.
He said a search of the vehicle uncovered three bundles, each containing 45 packets of compressed ganja.
'We believe the drug smugglers used packaging resembling 'kain pelikat' boxes to deceive the authorities.
'The suspect has not been located, and it is understood that each kilogramme of compressed ganja is estimated to be worth RM36,000,' he said.
He added that all the drugs and the vehicle were handed over to the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division of the Pasir Mas District Police Headquarters (IPD) for further action, with the case investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said among those arrested were the gang leader, a local man working as an e-hailing driver and his foreign lover, who are believed to have been actively carrying out drug trafficking activities for the past eight months. In the first raid on a house in Bukit Jalil at about 5.50pm on Tuesday, police nabbed a man and a foreign woman, and seized 4,656g of methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA) or ecstasy powder and three litres of juice suspected of containing drugs. 'The second raid was conducted on a house in Semenyih and led to the arrest of a man and the seizure of powdery substances believed to be MDMA weighing 230g, followed by a third raid at 6.10pm in Puchong where a male suspect was held and 966.10g of MDMA seized. 'At 10.30pm, we conducted raid number four on a house in Kajang. 'We arrested a man and seized 110 vape cartridges suspected of containing 2,880g of drugs,' Comm Hussein told Bernama at a media conference here yesterday. He added that the suspect then led police to a house in Kajang, where they seized MDMA powder weighing 21,452g, ketamine (4,722g), MDMA pills (641g) and Erimin-5 pills (1,960g). Following interrogation, police then arrested three men and a woman believed to be involved with the syndicate around Selangor and Kuala Lumpur. 'In addition to the syndicate leader and his lover, who has lived in the country for the past 10 years, seven other suspects, all aged between 24 and 38, worked as food traders, personal shoppers and barbers. 'Six of them tested positive for drugs and three tested negative, while three had previous records related to crime and drugs.' Comm Hussein said the syndicate targeted entertainment centres around the Klang Valley to sell to individuals. He added that police also seized five vehicles along with jewellery, watches, luxury handbags and cash, with the total seizure amounting to RM341,449.16. 'This success is a result of the intelligence we carried out for two months. All suspects have been remanded for seven days, with the case being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.'

Briton's death: How did backpacker enter construction site, asks Lee
KUALA LUMPUR: The authorities must investigate how a 25-year-old British national managed to trespass onto a construction site before falling into an elevator shaft. Alliance for a Safe Community chairman Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye questioned whether proper safety measures were in place, describing the incident as preventable. "The responsibility falls on the shoulders of the contractors and those managing the work site," he said. "Was there any signage at the site or a barricade? Were there any security personnel present? If they were on duty, they would not have allowed him to go through." He added that the company carrying out construction must conduct an internal investigation to prevent recurrence. Lee, who is also the former chairman of the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health, stressed that construction sites were legally required to have security measures in place to prevent trespassing. A construction work contractor is required to identify the perimeter of a construction site with a suitable sign and fence the area off under regulation 20(2) of the Occupational Safety and Health (Construction Work) (Design and Management) Regulations 2024. Anyone who violates the regulation may be liable to a fine not exceeding RM500,000 or imprisonment for a term not exceeding one year or both. On Thursday, the police confirmed that missing British backpacker Jordan Johnson-Doyle was found dead in an elevator shaft of a partially under-construction condominium in Bangsar here. A post-mortem showed that the cause of death was a chest injury due to a fall from height.

Judge Musli Ab Hamid convicted Tony Kuswadi Martin, 42, on his own guilty plea to a charge under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, punishable under Section 39C(1)(b) of the same Act. The Section provides for imprisonment of not less than five years and not more than seven years, and whipping of up to three strokes, upon conviction. Tony was also ordered to undergo two years of police supervision upon his release from prison. He was tested positive for the two drugs at the Kuching Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division office at around 2pm on June 2, 2025. It was informed that the accused has two prior convictions, in 2017 and 2022, for the same offence.
