It's the last weekend of March and the weather doesn't look great unless you're a fan of rain, freezing rain and cooler temperatures.
Luckily there are a few indoor activities to take in this weekend.
The Kitchener Rangers kick-off the playoffs Friday night, hosting the Flint Firebirds in the best of seven series. Game 2 goes Sunday at 2 p.m. at The Aud.

The Kitchener Rangers were showing gratitude to fans on Tuesday in downtown Kitchener's Carl Zehr Square. Attendees of the first ever Downtown Showdown had a chance to meet the players, get their merchandise signed and watch the Blueshirts compete in a 3 vs. 3 ball hockey tournament. CBC K-W's Karis Mapp stopped by the event to chat with some of the people there.
The K-W Titans have their last regular season home game of the season on Saturday at The Aud and will host the London Lightning.

Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery
This art exhibit features pieces by students in the Waterloo Region Catholic District School Board and Waterloo Region District School Board.
The student artists were asked to explore their community through an intergenerational lens, reflect on the past and also share their dreams for the future.
Saturday afternoon's event is the opening reception. The exhibit will be on display until May 4.
K-W Symphony Presents: Spring featuring Edwin Outwater
Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
St. Matthews Lutheran Church, Kitchener
Conductor emeritus Edwin Outwater will lead the musicians through music such as Wagner's Siegfried Idyll and Copland's Appalachian Spring Suite.
Tickets are required.

University of Guelph
This craft show is similar to Fair November, where there are artisans from across the region and province with various items including fashion, jewellery, pottery, soaps, food, woodworking and more. It could be a good place to get a jump on Mother's or Father's Day shopping. Admission is free.

There's also a Spring Market, Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Gale Presbyterian Church in Elmira.
Sunnyside Public School in Kitchener is also hosting a spring craft and vendor market from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

This evening of music will feature Evermile, Jessie T and Drew Leith. There will also be food, line dancing, an auction and prizes.
Tickets can be purchased ahead of time online. This is a fundraiser for the YWCA Cambridge Women's Shelter.

Jackson Parsons of the Kitchener Rangers named CHL Goaltender of the Year
Jackson Parsons is the first Kitchener Ranger in franchise history to be named the Canadian Hockey League's Goaltender of the Year. The announcement was made Friday at a ceremony in Toronto. 'Parsons was the backbone of a Rangers squad that notched its fourth 100-point season in franchise history in 2024–25, leading the CHL with 37 wins and setting a new Rangers single-season record with a 2.24 goals-against average,' the CHL said in a media release. 'He also tied for second in the OHL with a .920 save percentage.' In addition to CHL Goaltender of the Year, he was also named OHL Goaltender of the Year and OHL Overage Player of the Year. Parsons was picked by Kitchener in the third round of the 2020 OHL draft and, after playing 22 games, he took over as the team's number one netminder. But just five games later, he had a 'season-ending' shoulder surgery. He was enrolled at the University of Waterloo and his social sciences classes kept him busy through rehabilitation. 'It goes to show that hard work pays off,' Parsons said in an interview with the OHL. 'As much as there were dark times in that season and, you know, it's tough when you're 16-years-old and in the OHL. It's the best junior league in the world. It's a credit to the hard work that I put in the off-season, in-season, coming back from shoulder surgery.' The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) recently made a rule change making CHL players eligible for NCAA Division I hockey programs. The next day, Parsons announced he had committed to Clarkson University in Potsdam, New York and would play for their Golden Knight's men's hockey team. 'I'm super pumped,' he said. 'It's going to be awesome. It's going to be nice to be closer to home, I'm from Embrun, so it's about an hour and a half drive. My parents are going to be able to come out for a few more games, which they're looking forward to.' He will, however, always be a Ranger for life. 'I will be back,' Parsons promised.

Sunshine and cooler-than-normal temperatures for Ottawa this weekend
Ottawa will see sunshine, but cooler-than-normal temperatures during the final weekend of spring. Environment Canada's forecast calls for a high of 20 C today, and 23 C on Saturday and Sunday before temperatures begin to climb next week. The normal temperatures for this time of year are a high of 24 C and a low of 13 C. It will be mainly sunny today. High 20 C. Football fans will have perfect weather for the Redblacks home opener tonight at TD Place. The forecast calls for sunshine and a high of 18 C for kickoff at 7:30 p.m., with temperature dropping to 15 C by the end of the game. There will be a few clouds tonight with an overnight low of 11 C. Saturday will be mainly sunny. High 23 C. Sunday will have a mix of sun and cloud. High 23 C. The outlook for Monday calls for a mix of sun and cloud with a 30 per cent chance of showers. High 25 C. Warm end to June Environment Canada's forecast calls for temperatures of 27 C on Tuesday and 28 C on Wednesday. The monthly temperature outlook from Environment Canada predicts above-seasonal temperatures for Ottawa and eastern Ontario over the next four weeks. Warmer-than-normal temperatures are expected for the period of June 16 to July 14. The first day of spring is Friday, June 20.

Kitchener Rangers members nominated for Canadian Hockey League awards

(Krista Simpson/CTV News) Some familiar faces are getting recognition from the Canadian Hockey League. On Tuesday, the CHL released its list of finalists for ten awards. Kitchener Rangers head coach Jussi Ahokas has been nominated for the Brian Kilrea Coach of the year award, making him the first European to get the node for the honour. Jackson Parsons, the Rangers netminder, is also a contender for Goaltender of the Year. Both nominations come after Ahokas and Parsons were previously recognized by the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). Parsons was named the OHL's top overage player while Ahokas earned the OHL's coach of the year award. The CHL will hold an award ceremony on Friday at Delta Hotels Toronto.
