Local wheat procurement price surpasses global rate: Supply Minister
Minister of Supply and Internal Trade Sherif Farouk announced that the 2025 local wheat procurement season has launched on a strong note, reflecting the state's ongoing commitment to supporting Egyptian farmers and bolstering national food security.
Farouk emphasized that the government has set a highly competitive and fair procurement price—above the current global market rate—to ensure farmers receive a rewarding return on their harvest and are encouraged to deliver their crops to official collection points.
'All indicators so far are encouraging,' the Minister stated. 'We are confident in meeting our targeted quotas thanks to the comprehensive preparations and facilities made available for this season.'
To support efficient procurement, the government has mobilized all relevant entities, including the Future of Egypt for Sustainable Development Authority, the Holding Company for Silos and Storage, affiliated milling companies under the Holding Company for Food Industries, and the Agricultural Bank of Egypt. These organizations are working in full coordination to ensure streamlined operations across all governorates.
Farouk confirmed that more than 420 delivery and collection points have been prepared nationwide to ease the logistical burden on farmers and simplify the delivery process. Additionally, he assured that financial dues to suppliers will be disbursed within 48 hours of wheat delivery, underscoring the state's commitment to providing farmers with prompt support and financial stability.
To monitor the season's progress, the Ministry has set up a central operations room operating around the clock, in addition to local operations rooms in all supply directorates to oversee implementation on the ground and respond swiftly to any emerging issues.
'This season is promising—not only for farmers but for Egypt's food security strategy,' Farouk said. 'We urge all farmers to seize this opportunity, deliver their harvests promptly, and benefit from the favorable pricing and support services provided by the state.'
The Ministry's proactive measures aim to enhance the strategic stockpile and contribute to long-term national food security, while ensuring a fair and efficient wheat marketing system for local producers.

Egypt, Norway Discuss Strengthening Bilateral Ties, Regional Crises at Oslo Forum
Ahmed Emam Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty held talks with his Norwegian counterpart, Espen Barth Eide, on the sidelines of the Oslo Forum, focusing on enhancing bilateral cooperation and addressing regional developments in Gaza and Sudan. The meeting underscored the growing momentum in Egyptian-Norwegian relations, with Abdel Aaty praising recent political and economic progress between the two nations. He highlighted the ongoing dialogue at the highest levels, including President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi's visit to Norway in December 2024, and welcomed the launch of regular political consultations, as agreed upon during that visit. Abdelatty emphasized Egypt's interest in strengthening economic collaboration, particularly in renewable energy. He expressed appreciation for the efforts of Norwegian company Scatec in Egypt and looked forward to the implementation of new joint projects that would boost Norwegian investment in the country. Trade between the two nations was another focal point, with Abdel Aaty encouraging the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad) and the Norwegian Investment Fund for Developing Countries (Norfund) to consider increasing their financial support for Norwegian companies operating in Egypt, particularly in clean energy and aquaculture sectors. He noted that these efforts would benefit from Egypt's recent economic reforms. The Egyptian minister also voiced interest in expanding trilateral cooperation in Africa, citing Norway's strategic engagement with the continent following the launch of its Africa Strategy in August 2024. On regional issues, both ministers exchanged views on the situation in Gaza. Abdel Aaty commended Norway's long-standing support for Palestinian rights and international law, and outlined Egypt's intensive efforts to broker a ceasefire, facilitate humanitarian aid, and mitigate the worsening humanitarian crisis in the besieged enclave. He reiterated Egypt's firm position on the Palestinian cause, advocating for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. Regarding Sudan, Abdel Aaty reaffirmed Egypt's support for the unity and stability of its southern neighbor. He stressed the importance of safeguarding Sudan's national institutions, sovereignty, and territorial integrity amid the ongoing conflict. The meeting reflected both countries' shared commitment to deepening cooperation and addressing regional challenges through diplomacy and sustainable development. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt News Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly Inaugurates Two Indian Companies Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks News Shell Unveils Cost-Cutting, LNG Growth Plan Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream Technology 50-Year Soviet Spacecraft 'Kosmos 482' Crashes into Indian Ocean

Industrial Hub for Bridge Parts to Be Established in Egypt
SAMCO teams up with Germany's Maurer to localise production, boost export capacity, and train Egyptian engineers. Jun 12, 2025 A strategic partnership between Egypt's SAMCO and Germany's Maurer is set to establish an integrated industrial complex in Egypt dedicated to manufacturing bridge and tunnel components. The agreement builds on their existing collaboration producing internationally compliant bridge bearings and marks a major step toward reshoring critical infrastructure production. The planned facility will expand current operations to produce bearings, expansion joints, and other necessary parts for infrastructure mega-projects—such as high-speed rail lines, bridges, and tunnels—serving both domestic needs and regional exports to Africa and the Middle East. As part of the agreement, Egyptian engineers and technicians will receive on-the-job training from Maurer experts, accelerating the transfer of modern manufacturing know-how. Already, 75% of the bearing components are locally sourced, and the plan aims for full domestic production in the near future. A technical committee—comprising representatives from SAMCO, the General Authority for Industrial Development, and the Roads and Bridges Authority—will oversee the hub's planning and execution. The committee will set milestones, staffing requirements, and a timeline to ensure the project aligns with national goals to enhance industrial self-sufficiency and private-sector strength in the transport sector .
