Former Headland cop accused of killing pregnant wife's unborn child during fight heading to trial this summer
DOTHAN, Ala (WDHN) — A former police officer accused of attacking his wife and causing her to miscarry could face a jury of his peers this summer after several delays.
Court records show Robert Allen Maddox will appear before a jury and Judge John Steensland on Monday, June 9, at the Houston County Courthouse.
Maddox is facing one count of manslaughter after investigators claimed Maddox threw his now ex-wife to the floor of their home during a fight in March 2022 and began choking her, which cut off her air supply.

In Maddox's indictment, investigators said Maddox then began punching his then-wife in the stomach, ultimately causing her to miscarry.
After the alleged attack, Maddox's then-wife, who separated from him after the incident, reported it to Dothan Police. Maddox was arrested at the end of March 2022 and was initially charged with one count of domestic violence.
However, four months after his initial arrest, Dothan Police said a continued investigation revealed the victim was pregnant and had miscarried, prompting police to charge Maddox with an additional count of murder. That murder charge was later reduced to one count of manslaughter.

Maddox was initially set to stand trial in April of last year, but that was pushed to April of 2025.
His trial date was then pushed a second time to June.

Wisconsin Better Business Bureau exposes top elderly scams and offers prevention advice
MILWAUKEE, Wis. (WFRV) – Recently, the Wisconsin Better Business Bureau released the top scams used to take advantage of older adults and the elderly while also providing tips on how to avoid becoming a victim. According to a release, investment/cryptocurrency scams continue to be the riskiest scams for those aged 55+, with romance scams being the riskiest for those who are aged 65+. BBB officials also say purchase scams and home improvement scams are towards the top of the list when it comes to attempting to trick older or elderly community members. When it comes to scams, officials say it is important to know the red flags. The following are some of the most common 'too-good-to-be-true' tactics scammers use to get a victim's money or personal information: 'Free,' 'low cost,' or 'buy one, get one' deal Request for unusual payment types (i.e., prepaid debit cards or wired funds) Claims that you only pay postage or administrative fees Pressure to act now and/or aggressive tones Deals that must be secured with a credit card or bank account information Sure-fire investment opportunities Charities that send 100% of your donation directly to the victims Officials also add that potential victims should keep in mind that it is easy to spoof caller IDs. No matter what the caller ID says, government agencies will not make unsolicited calls, and when in doubt, the best thing to do is hang up the phone and call the official source to verify the original call. Other ways to avoid becoming a victim of a scam include the following: Register a personal phone number on the National Do-Not-Call registry Reduces the number of unsolicited phone calls Only hire trustworthy, licensed contractors Don't hire someone who just shows up at the door for work around the home or for an inspection. Bannon: Graham giving Ukrainians ‘false hope'
Former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon, a key MAGA insider, doubled down late Monday on his criticism of Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) and the lawmaker's vocal support for Ukraine amid its war with Russia. In an interview on NewsNation's 'Cuomo,' Bannon said Graham was giving Ukrainians 'false hope' by meeting with the country's president, Volodymyr Zelensky, and by suggesting the U.S. support Kyiv's stunning drone attack on Russia's strategic bombing fleet. 'We can't have Lindsey Graham, and particularly Zelensky, leading us into a third world war with a deep strike into Russia,' Bannon told host Chris Cuomo. The comments come after the former Trump adviser called for the South Carolina Republican to be jailed for his pro-Ukraine stance. Cuomo repeatedly challenged Bannon to back up that request. 'I don't understand how you could want to jail a U.S. senator because he's saying something you don't like,' the NewsNation host said, adding, 'That sounds like the worst of the deep state and lawfare.' Bannon responded, 'No, it's absolutely — what he's doing over there right now is stirring it up. He's giving the Ukrainians false hope.' Cuomo cut in, 'But it's not illegal.' The Trump ally continued, 'He's giving Ukrainians false hope that we're there to support them on engaging Russia in a kinetic conflict. And we are not.' The host continued to press Bannon about why he thinks Graham should be detained. 'So maybe he's wrong, but why do you say throw him in jail?' he said. 'Two things ought to happen: Either cancel his passport and don't let him back in the country, or put him in jail if he comes back,' Bannon responded, adding, 'The attack was audacious.' 'It was brilliant. But the problem is it gets us involved in a conflict that no one in the United States wants to be part of,' he added. Cuomo noted that he didn't necessarily disagree with the former strategist's opinion. 'I'm just saying you can't be throwing people in jail because you don't like what they say. That's my only point,' he told Bannon. 'I'm not saying that you're wrong about where this might lead and how dangerous it is.' Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
