Bold reason Kim K wore £3.7m diamonds at Paris robbery trial despite trolls claiming her ‘flashy' life made her a target

WHEN news broke that Kim Kardashian had been robbed at gunpoint by a group of men who burst into her hotel room in October 2016, it sent shockwaves through the world.
The seemingly-untouchable star, who was at the height of her popularity, was staying at Hôtel de Pourtalès during Paris Fashion Week, a celebrity favourite due to its discreet location in the capital city of France.

The robbers were after one thing - her impressive multi-million pound jewellery collection, which included her brand new 'second engagement ring' worth £3.7 million.
In the wake of the heist, Kim, 44, said she wasn't sure if she'd ever wear real or expensive jewellery again.
So, fans were shocked to see her arrive at the French courtroom dripping in diamonds - including an anklet, replica of the stolen ring and earring stack.
It shouldn't be too much of a shock, though, according to one fashion expert, who believes that the Kardashian-Jenner family "never fails to create a spectacle whether it is on the catwalk or in court".
Kim had been gifted the huge £3.7 million diamond band a month prior to the robbery by her ex-husband and father to her four children, Kanye West.
She had been proudly posting herself wearing her new gem on Snapchat in the months leading up to her trip to Paris, and was also pictured with it on in public.
A gang of thieves had their eyes on the impressive jewel, and dressed as cops to gain access to Kim's hotel, where they threatened and handcuffed the concierge-security guard on duty and demanded he take them to her room.
The robbers entered her suite as she was lying on her bed and forced the concierge to act as an interpreter, who told Kim to hand over her engagement ring.
The men, holding guns, tied Kim up with zip ties and duct tape before placing her in the bathroom to ransack her suite for more valuables and money.
The armed thieves made off with over £8.5 million worth of jewellery, including Kim's new ring, as well as €1,000 in cash.
After the attack, Kim said she wasn't sure if she'd ever wear expensive jewellery again.
'I was definitely materialistic before… I just don't care about that stuff any more,' she said during an interview on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in April 2017. "It's just not worth it, I don't care about that stuff, I don't care to show off the way that I used to.
'It's okay if you're proud of that… It's just not who I am anymore. That's not to say that I'll never wear jewellery again, or anything like that. I truly don't know if I'd ever feel comfortable. I truly don't know if I'd ever wear real jewellery again.'
Fast forward nine years since the terrifying diamond heist, Kim has the answer to that question - yes.

The reality TV star turned up to the French courtroom dripping in diamonds - and even had a replica of the stolen £3.7 million ring on.
She ascended the steps into the Assize Court wearing a power-shouldered skirt suit from John Galliano.
This was paired with a diamond anklet, a diamond Samer Halimeh necklace and a stack of diamond Repossi and Briony Raymond earrings.
Why would she do that? To send a message of power, says Alison Lowe MBE, fashion consultant and course leader of MBA Fashion Entrepreneurship at the University of East London.
Kim has turned the courtroom into her personal stage, creating a look that reclaims her power and presents a calculated statement. By wearing diamonds in court she isn't just presenting fashion - she is declaring evidence
Alison Lowe MBEfashion expert
'Kim has turned the courtroom into her personal stage, creating a look that reclaims her power and presents a calculated statement,' Lowe says.
'By wearing diamonds in court she isn't just presenting fashion - she is declaring evidence.
'She is subtly showing the court the very premise of the case: that wearing high-value jewellery is, and always has been, part of her daily life.
'Her court attire serves to underscore that her diamonds and expensive pieces are part of her public persona and that there's nothing unusual about her having worn millions in jewels that night in 2016.'
'Flaunting her wealth'
Following the robbery, critics slammed Kim for "flaunting her wealth" - and even said she was 'inviting' criminals by showcasing just how much she had and being "too flashy"
That includes designer Karl Lagerfeld who told the Associated Press she was 'too public' with her jewellery, adding: 'You cannot display your wealth then be surprised that some people want to share it."
In the wake of the diamond heist, Kim's style took an undeniable turn. It was toned down, and she was rarely seen with any form of jewellery on, let alone big rocks.
Loew comments: 'There is an irony in her wearing diamonds as following the Paris robbery she declared she was no longer going to flaunt her wealth and would step back from over the top ostentatious displays.
'However, here she is, back in Paris in traditional Kim K style.
'Some may comment that she is now wearing her diamonds as a form of armour, or a badge of honour to show the world that she has survived and is reclaiming her power.
'My personal opinion is that the Kardashian-Jenner family never fails to create a spectacle whether it is on the catwalk or in court.
'The 'brand' is always top priority.'

Four-time champ Swiatek knocked out of French Open semi-finals by Sabalenka

PARIS, June 5 (Reuters) - Four-time champion Iga Swiatek crashed out of the French Open semi-finals after a 6-7(1) 6-4 0-6 defeat to world number one Aryna Sabalenka on Thursday, ending her 26-game winning streak in the tournament. Sabalenka's power was too much for the defending champion, who was looking to become the first female player in the Open era since 1968 to win four consecutive titles in Paris. The top seed will play either France's wild card Lois Boisson or second seed Coco Gauff in Saturday's showcase match.

A 17-year-old superstar worth £339m and PSG's new Champions League hero... it's the battle of football's next big stars as Lamine Yamal and Desire Doue meet for the first time tonight

For years, many assumed that both Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland would be the next big battle at the pinnacle of the beautiful game, following on from Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. But it's already time for them to step aside. Now it's Desire Doue and Lamine Yamal 's time to go toe-to-toe. They may both be teenagers, but it's already become abundantly clear that they can dominate football for the next decade, and beyond. Yamal, whose pearler of a strike against France in the European Championship semi-final last summer announced him as a superstar on the world stage, is now tipped as a favourite for the Ballon d'Or. Doue did the very same thing, in the very same stadium - the Allianz Arena - last week. His performance in the Champions League final against Inter Milan thrust him into the limelight alongside Yamal. Tonight, the two go head-to-head for the very first time as Spain take on France in the Nations League semi-final. It's fitting that the game is being played in Stuttgart, within the country where the pair launched themselves toward the top of the sport. Will this be the game where the Ballon d'Or is decided? Doue's team-mate for both club and country, Ousmane Dembele, may have something to say about that, but either way, tonight is the first showdown of what will be a battle for the ages. How do they compare on the pitch? What we have to remember is that, despite being younger, Yamal has a superior amount of experience at the top level of elite football than Doue. He has been shining for Barcelona since before Doue even joined PSG. Yamal may still be at an age where he can't even legally drive in Spain, but he definitely doesn't need L plates when he is on the pitch. In the season just gone, he contributed to 39 of Barcelona's quite frankly ridiculous 174 goals in all competitions. 18 of those hit the back of the net directly from his own boot, while 21 were assists. The numbers are pretty high, but there are plenty out there with better. That's beside the point, though. When you watch Yamal in action, his pace, dribbling, skills, and composure, make it clear to see why he is in the conversation for the Ballon d'Or. However, his battle with Doue this evening is not something Yamal thinks should sway the vote, but rather his performances across the year as a whole. 'If you were voting for the Ballon d'Or, would you choose the best player of the year, or the one who wins the match on Thursday?' the 17-year-old told El Partidazo de COPE. 'Whether we win or not, I would vote for the best player of the year.' Based on the stats, you'd pick Yamal over Doue. More goals, more assists, more big chances created - with 38 - and even a higher Sofascore rating. Also, Yamal has been calculated as the most valuable player in world football - with CIES determining the Barcelona star to be worth £339million, much more than Doue, who has been valued at just £91m. Still a lot, but pennies in comparison. However, the values and statistics don't tell the whole story. You have to take into account that Doue, who signed for PSG from Rennes last summer, only started getting selected by Luis Enrique as a starter at the turn of the year. Funnily enough, that's when fortunes started to turn for the better for the Parisians. Doue accrued a significantly fewer amount of minutes on the pitch compared to Yamal - 3,019 to 4,548 - and 13 of his 15 goals have come in 2025, two of those in the Champions League final. It was a performance of the ages last Saturday night. The final will be remembered as the 'Doue final', one in which he showed why PSG no longer need Neymar Jnr and Kylian Mbappe. He showed the elegance of the Brazilian and the deadliness of his compatriot when tearing the Inter backline into pieces. Less than a month earlier, Yamal did the very same thing to Simone Inzaghi's side. In the first leg of Barcelona's crazy semi-final with Inter, the 17-year-old superstar put in a performance even Lionel Messi would have been proud of. With every outside-of-the-boot pass, dummy, or shimmy, his performance became more mesmerising. Inter were on strings from the 24th minute - when he dropped his shoulder, drifted past Henrikh Mkhitaryan as if he wasn't there, and bent the ball in off the post - and he was the puppeteer. It was a shame that Yamal's brilliance across both legs was not enough to see Barcelona over the line. A final between the two sensational teenagers would have been the perfect setting for their first battle, but at least we don't have to wait too long to see them face off. What are they like off the pitch? 'Away from the pitch, he's a dream: easy, calm, with a streak of leadership while still asking for advice.' Those are the words of Bruno Genesio, Doue's former coach at Rennes, when speaking about the teenager's personality. 'He's both care-free and conscientious in his work,' Genesio continued. 'He's already a pro in his head.' Doue may be a star on the pitch, but off it, he struts around the fashion capital of the world as if he is just like the rest of us. No trying to hide, just like any teenager, he wants to live his life. The 19-year-old enjoys watching anime and exploring the world of fashion through stylish outfits, showcasing his personality with wacky haircuts. The overriding feeling from those closest to him is that he is down to earth - the new-found fame hasn't got to him yet. In a BBC Sport article, Pierre-Etienne Minonzio, a journalist with L'Equipe, said: 'Recently he was in a very popular shop. He was there just looking for a book when somebody spotted him. It was totally normal because he is so young, but maybe he did not understand it is going to be hard for him to be in crowded places in Paris.' Yamal is similarly humble. It's easy to forget just how young his when watching him on the pitch. He is still a kid, and when he beams after scoring a goal you will notice his braces. His journey to football stardom began with a modest upbringing, but his prodigious talent quickly attracted attention, earning him the nickname 'Mini-Messi' before he was even a teenager. The Barcelona star is also into his fashion and regularly shares snaps to social media Yamal was born on July 13, 2007, in Esplugues de Llobregat - which is in the Barcelona metropolitan area of Catalonia, Spain but lived in Mataro for the majority of his childhood. In a nearby village, Rocafonda, is where Yamal's grandmother, Fatima, and the mother of Mounir - the Barcelona star's father - lives. Yamal often takes time away from being the world-renowned star he now is just to get a taste of her food. Yamal sometimes forgets just how famous he has become. Indeed, just days after winning Euro 2024, he was on an EasyJet flight and was bombarded by fans. During his journey to the top, Yamal's love life has also started to take off. In summer, he was reportedly dating Barcelona-based influencer Alex Padilla before they broke up. However, six months ago Yamal could be seen with model Anna Gegnoso in La Roca village in Barcelona. Reports claim that Gegnoso flew all the way from Italy to cheer on the Golden Boy winner from the stands against Las Palmas in December. The teenage sensation is a global figure outside of the sport, with his marketability seeing no bounds. He has deals with brands like Beats and Oppo, while Nike started providing him with their products at the age of 14 before he opted to switch to Adidas last year. Doue also has a lucrative deal, but he is with Puma. However, he can still often be seen wearing Nike boots, as were on show at the Allianz Arena last week. The Frenchman is set to have his inbox littered with offers from various companies following his recent rise. It won't be long until we see him marketed in the same way as his now rival, Yamal. He is also close to his family. He has an older brother Guela, who also plays football in Ligue 1, for Strasbourg. Following the Champions League triumph, Doue could also be seen dancing with family members and friends on the pitch. Although, I don't see his moves getting him an appearance on Strictly Come Dancing anytime soon.

Glamorous Olympic swimmer who had to leave athletes' village finally breaks her silence to reveal real 'inappropriate' reasons behind her axeing by her country

Olympic swimmer Luana Alonso has hit back at claims that she was kicked out of the athletes' village last year due to her 'inappropriate' behaviour. Alonso, 21, competed for Paraguay in the 100m butterfly in Paris but failed to qualify for the semi-finals of her event and immediately announced her retirement from swimming. Aside from competing, the glamorous swimmer had been seen walking round in her own choice of outfits rather than the official kit provided by Paraguayan team chiefs, while she was also spotted socialising with other athletes and was said to be distracting her team-mates still competing. In response, the Paraguayan Olympic Committee released a statement claiming Alonso had been told to leave the athletes' village. Paraguayan Olympic chief Larissa Schaerer said: 'Her presence is creating an inappropriate atmosphere within Team Paraguay. 'We thank her for proceeding as instructed, as it was of her own free will that she did not spend the night in the Athletes' Village.' Now, 10 months on from the Games, Alonso has broken her silence on what really happened, insisting that her country turned its back on her after she decided she no longer wanted to swim. In a lengthy statement posted on her Instagram Story, Alonso wrote: 'I can't believe I have to say this, but I'm seriously considering legal action against the magazine and media outlets spreading false rumours like that I was expelled from the Olympic Village. Really? Who came up with that nonsense? Well, it's not true. 'Let me make this clear: I left the Olympic Village on my own. The Paraguayan Olympic team claimed I created an "inappropriate environment" simply because I decided I didn't want to swim anymore. 'They tried to take my accreditation away, but that's not something they had the right to do. I chose not to hand it over and apparently that was "inappropriate" to them. Funny how the same people who treated me like this later begged me to return to the Pan American Junior Games. 'If I had been treated with basic respect, maybe I wouldn't have stepped away. I've always given everything for my country breaking records, winning medals but standing up for myself has always made me a "problem" in their eyes. I'm not sorry for that. 'I speak up when I'm disrespected, whether it's by team-mates, staff, or anyone else and that's not going to change. I'll be posting a video soon to address everything properly. But seriously these lies are wild and affecting my life and that's why I decided I'm keeping my life lowkey.' After leaving the Olympic Village, Alonso checked into a hotel in the French capital and visited high end boutiques and restaurants – and posted photos to her 500,000 followers on her social media. She now has 1.1million followers on Instagram, despite cutting back on her social media activity in recent months. However, Alonso did announce in October that she was starting an OnlyFans account. Last month, Alonso revealed that she will be returning to swimming next year, but admitted 'I don't know if I will be back to competitive swimming'.
