Sphinx Airport provides groundbreaking new service for the deaf and mute in Egypt

The Sphinx International Airport has launched a new service and initiative specifically for the deaf and mute community.
The service involves issuing an identification card bearing the 'Service for Deaf & Mute' logo and a sign language symbol.
Passengers will wear this card to facilitate easy identification by airport staff, enabling them to receive the necessary support without direct intervention – ensuring a smooth and safe travel experience.
To effectively implement the service, a sign language-trained specialist has been assigned to the quarantine area. This specialist will be responsible for greeting passengers and providing them with the card upon their arrival, thereby enhancing communication with all entities within the airport.
This initiative is the first phase of a broader plan aimed at generalizing the service across various Egyptian airports, in line with the Ministry of Civil Aviation's strategy.
It also aligns with the Egyptian state's efforts to promote the inclusion and empowerment for people with disabilities, enabling them to access services that meet their needs.

Photos: Egypt inaugurates Qaitbay Citadel Visitor Center

The Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities announced the opening of the Qaitbay Citadel Visitor Center in Alexandria, which comes to improve the quality of services provided to visitors to museums and archaeological sites. The center was set up within one of the halls of the main tower of the Qaitbay Citadel, in cooperation with the French Center for Alexandrian Studies, under the direction of the Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Sherif Fathy. The Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, Mohamed Ismail Khaled, explained that this comes as part of the ministry's strategy to improve services at archaeological sites and enhance cultural communication with visitors. It also aims to shed light on the rich history of the archaeological area surrounding Qaitbay Citadel, including prominent historical sites, such as the ancient lighthouse and the eastern port, which was a pivotal part of the royal district of ancient Alexandria. The Director General of the General Administration of Tourist, Archaeological Sites, and Museums Services, Bassem Ibrahim, said that the center provides information on unique archaeological structures, such as the Royal Port, the Timonium Building, Antrodos Island, the marine docks, and the shipyards. The visitor center also explores the development of Alexandria's defensive fortifications, focusing on the historical role of Qaitbay Citadel, along with the fortifications constructed during the reign of Muhammad Ali Pasha along the northern coast. He added that the center's display features nine bilingual information panels in Arabic and English, supported by maps and illustrative diagrams that facilitate understanding of the historical and architectural sequence of the area. A screen also displays a film about the ancient lighthouse site, along with seating for visitors to rest.

Environment min. to MENA: We work to add other Egyptian cities to ICLEI network

File- Egyptian Minister Yasmine Fouad during the press conference on June 1, 2025- press photo CAIRO- 9 June 2025: Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad said her ministry is working to add other Egyptian cities to the Local Governments for Sustainability (ICLEI) global network after the Red Sea resort city of Sharm El Sheikh was designated as Egypt's first green city few days ago by the network. In statements to MENA on Monday, Fouad said that Sharm El Sheikh joined the ICLEI network, thanks to its sustainable development strategy, citing the injection of investments worth EGP 800 million in the new and renewable energy sources in the city to produce 51 megawatts of clean energy, the establishment of 145 kilometers of bike lanes, the introduction of a public bike-sharing system and robust solid waste management systems. She added the next phase will focus on activating the Sustainable Environmental and Social Strategic Development Strategy (SESSDS), through banning the use of single-use plastic in 50 hotels, empowering local community initiatives, especially in protected areas and coastal areas, and expanding partnerships with the private sector and international supporters.
