Government of Canada invests in youth crime prevention in Montréal
OTTAWA, ON, Feb. 28, 2025 /CNW/ - Today, Patricia Lattanzio, Member of Parliament for Saint-Léonard—Saint-Michel, on behalf of the Honourable David J. McGuinty, Minister of Public Safety, announced an investment of up to $1.39 million over five years to the Maison de jeunes de Saint-Léonard through the Crime Prevention Action Fund (CPAF).
This investment will support at-risk youth aged 10-18 in the Saint-Léonard borough of Montréal by offering targeted services to help prevent a life of crime, including raising awareness of the risks associated with gangs through workshops, offering sports, self-development, cultural and artistic activities, providing referrals to mental health supports, providing psychosocial intervention support in small groups and collaborating with area organizations on mentoring programs.
The CPAF supports evidence-based crime prevention initiatives in communities that address known risk and protective factors associated with crime among vulnerable groups of the population, especially children and youth, and chronic offenders.

Garland Animal Control captures 15-foot python threatening neighborhood
Garland Animal Control officers responded to a wild call involving a massive 15-foot reticulated python threatening a neighborhood on Friday. A resident found the python near the intersection of Apache Drive and Broadway Boulevard around 11 p.m. Garland Animal Shelter and Adoption Center By the time officers arrived, the python had circled a yard and even trapped a man on top of his truck, according to the Garland Animal Shelter and Adoption Center. The python tried to strike several times and a tense crowd gathered to watch; however, the Center said that the officer remained calm and focused. Eventually, the officer's patience and careful work paid off, and the python was safely captured. "Bravery, compassion, and public safety-that's what our Animal Control Officers bring every day," the Garland Animal Shelter and Adoption Center said on social media. "No matter the call, we show up. Because our duty never ends." The Center said the python's escape was accidental and "caused no harm or incidents." Garland Animal Services officers have identified its owner, and the python is scheduled to be picked up on Wednesday and relocated outside Garland city limits, as the city prohibits the ownership of exotic animals.

‘High-risk' ICE flight deports over 100 illegal aliens, including convicted felons, to China
Just days after violent, anti-ICE riots first rocked Los Angeles, federal immigration agents announced a major enforcement operation deporting 122 illegal aliens to China, many of them convicted of crimes including murder, rape, and drug trafficking. The June 3 deportation flight, led by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Dallas, was part of a nationwide push to protect American communities and restore law and order. According to an official ICE press release, the group included 96 men and 26 women, ranging in age from 19 to 68. All had final orders of removal and were held in ICE detention centers across the ARRESTS 'WORST OF THE WORST' ILLEGAL ALIENS IN LOS ANGELES WHILE PROTESTERS ADVOCATE FOR CRIMINALS: DHS ICE officials say the charter flight to China was in the interest of public safety. According to an ICE press release, many of the individuals removed had been convicted of serious felonies, including murder, rape, human smuggling, bribery, and narcotics trafficking. One man removed was a 47-year-old with a murder conviction. Another was a 27-year-old found guilty of rape. Others listed included drug dealers and smugglers. The Trump administration has increased tariffs on Chinese imports, blamed Chinese companies for fueling the U.S. fentanyl crisis, and clamped down on tech exports. In response, Beijing has issued warnings to its citizens about traveling to American cities affected by civil unrest and imposed its own trade penalties. Amber Alert issued for 4-year-old Dallas boy; Police also searching for 21-year-old
Dallas police are searching for a 4-year-old last seen late Monday night. Luciano Gallegos was last seen in the 2900 block of S. Walton Walker Blvd. in Dallas at 11:30 p.m. Monday. Police describe the boy as 3-foot-4 with brown hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing no shirt, green shorts and black Crocs. Luciano Gallegos, 4, left; Louis Ricker, 21, right. Texas Department of Public Safety Police are also searching for Louis Ricker, who Gallegos was last seen with. Ricker is 21 years old, is 5-foot-9 and has brown hair and brown eyes. Ricker was last seen wearing no shirt and black shorts. Police said the two are in a white Mitsubishi Outlander. The vehicle year is between 2007-2010.
