Good Samaritan, 22, stabbed to death outside prayer centre 'while trying to break up a fight': Police still hunting killer

Daily Mail8 hours ago

A Good Samaritan was stabbed to death outside a London prayer centre while trying to break up a fight, with police still hunting for the knifeman.
'Hero' 22-year-old restaurant manager Dara Sayed Barham stepped in as a 'mediator' when two men started fighting in Hanworth Road, Hounslow, near his eatery yesterday.
Locals told how Dara tried to stop the brawl outside the Hounslow Muslim Centre in west London before being knifed three times.
Police and paramedics swarmed the area at 2.21pm and found Dara with multiple stab wounds. He was rushed to hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
Dara's best friend Kavan Soleman described him as the 'perfect citizen' who would 'help anyone and do anything for anyone'.
'The fight was nothing to do with him. But he was a perfect citizen, a hero who tried to come between them without worrying about himself, he was a peacemaker,' he told the Metro.
'I'm devastated he was such a good, hardworking person. He is Kurdish like me. His family are there. I'm going to the hospital as I live in London. I can't believe he has gone.'
One witness said: 'It's so sad. He was only 22 and was trying to be a mediator in a fight that broke out between people outside the restaurant on the street.
'He was trying to break it up but got caught up in the fight.'
Another witness said: 'He was not actually involved in the fight from the start but tried to get in between those who were, to try to stop them.
'Unfortunately, he was stabbed at least three times when he was the one trying to prevent any harm.
'There was so much blood on the street and there were so many people around..'
Dara's next of kin have been informed, the Met said.
An investigation is ongoing but no arrests have been made.
Officers say there is nothing to suggest a link between the incident and Hounslow Muslim Centre.
Detective Chief Inspector Wayne Jolley said: 'My thoughts are with the family and friends of the victim at this incredibly difficult time.
'This incident happened in a busy part of Hounslow during the middle of the afternoon.
'It's vital we hear from anyone who was in the area and witnessed the attack, the moments leading up to it, or the aftermath.'

Off duty police officer attacked by machete-wielding thieves as he confronts them

An off-duty police officer was stabbed several times as he confronted a pair of machete-wielding brothers who were stealing an electric bike. PC Attwood, a Metropolitan Police officer, was out in Bedfordshire on 2 November 2024, when he noticed Hannan Mahmood, 20, and Humar Mahmood, 19 mid-robbery. Footage released by police on Monday (23 June) shows PC Attwood approaching the pair, where he told them 'not to be so stupid' before trying to block the brothers in with a barricade. He was then slashed at repeatedly with a machete, receiving a stab wound to his chest. The brothers, of Belmont Road, Luton, pleaded guilty to grievous bodily harm with intent, dangerous driving, robbery, and possession of offensive weapons in connection with the incident. They were sentenced today at Luton Crown Court to a total of seven years in prison, with an additional five years on licence.

Raducanu praises Wimbledon for 'amazing job' of blocking stalker

June 24 (Reuters) - Briton Emma Raducanu said she felt reassured about her safety after Wimbledon prevented a man who had been stalking her from buying tickets for the Grand Slam that begins on Monday. The former U.S. Open champion had been followed by the man to WTA events in Singapore, Abu Dhabi and Doha earlier this year and she broke down in tears after noticing him during one of her matches at the Dubai Championships in February. The man was given a restraining order by Dubai police and banned from all Tour events but officials at Wimbledon, which is organised by the All England Club, had to block him following a sweep of the public ballot applicants. "Wimbledon and everyone did an amazing job," Raducanu told the BBC. "I got a notification, the police contacted me and told me everything was OK." "I know that I'm not the first athlete to go through this, and I probably won't be the last - not just as an athlete, but females in general." The 22-year-old, who had not yet been born when then world number one Monica Seles was stabbed in the back by a fan at an event in 1993, said she felt much safer with extra security at events. "I have a lot more protection around me - especially the ones here in the UK, where it's busy and there's more spectators around. I feel a difference, and that reassures me and makes me feel more comfortable," she added. Raducanu also praised British number two Katie Boulter for sharing her experience of online abuse. "I try and not read the comments or look at the messages because it makes you upset," she said. "It doesn't matter how many positive comments you read, you are always going to remember the more negative ones - so I just try and stay away."

Wild moment tradies throw punches after violent brawl erupts on work site

A violent brawl involving over a dozen tradies has erupted beside a work site, with one man using his hard hat to bash another in the head. Workmen dressed in orange and yellow high-vis jackets were seen clashing in footage published on a Facebook page for Guildford, western Sydney, on Tuesday. Two men appear to close in on another, all of them shoving at each other, before more men joined the fray in a mass of punches. In a splinter group, one man could be seen removing his work helmet and using it to bash another man over the head. The altercation appeared to take place on a quiet road, with some tradies watching on from a worksite. No cause for the violence has been shared. During the minute-long video, at least two men were pushed to the ground, where they appeared to be kicked by someone. Some individuals could be seen trying to separate participants as those on the sidelines could be heard shouting a range of protests. One man called the behaviour 'crazy' while another said: 'That's four on one you've got there'. The man filming the violent brawl was told not to record by another bystander, but he continued anyway, telling the person to 'f*** off!' Locals took to the comments to share a mix of bemusement and horror. 'See what happens when you mess up the lunch order,' one person joked. 'When you're not the first person on site and try to take over the tunes,' another said. But others condemned the behaviour, with one commenter branding it 'disgusting'. 'I hope the footage was sent to the police,' they said. 'Disgusting behaviour for people at work,' a second wrote. Little detail was included in the video description, but one tradie involved in the altercation wore a 'Meriton' high-vis jacket.
