World's First AI Mazu Statue Launched At Tianhou Temple In Malaysia
AI Mazu Statue at Tianhou Temple in Johor, Malaysia was launched on April 20 to celebrate Mazu's 1,065th birthday.
The Tianhou Temple in Johor, Malaysia, recently introduced the world's first AI powered Mazu statue. Created by Malaysian tech company Aimazin, the digital deity allows devotees to interact with the goddess, by asking for blessings, guidance and advice. This groundbreaking technology was launched on April 20 to celebrate Mazu's 1,065th birthday. To show its capabilities, Aimazin founder Shin Kong tested the AI by asking for advice on improving luck, to which it kindly suggested him to stay at home for better fortune. In another instance, when an influencer asked the solution for insomnia, Mazu advised them to drink warm water before bed
As per the South China Morning Post, Mazu, originally named Lin Mo, was born in 960 on Meizhou Island in Fujian, China. There are stories about her death while trying to save people from a shipwreck. After her passing, she went to heaven, where she became a protector of sailors and fishermen. Mazu is majorly worshipped by Chinese communities around the world, particularly in countries like Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia.
As per Aimazin's website, 'Our cutting-edge Artificial Intelligence Generated Content (AIGC) technology empowers creators, entrepreneurs, and content producers to enhance productivity and unlock boundless potential effortlessly. We're more than a tech company, we're a passionate team dedicated to merging human creativity with Al. We provide the tools and support needed to transform ideas into reality, marking a new era of innovation."
Interestingly, Chinese actress Liu Tao is worshipped in some homes, as many believe she's the living form of Mazu. This belief started after she played the role of the goddess in the 2012 television drama. In some places, people even hang photographs of Liu Tao in their homes, to worship and take blessings of her. People respect the goddess so much that several police stations in the region have named their rooms after her. It's believed that criminals, especially from Fujian, won't be able to lie in front of Mazu.
The AI Mazu at Tianhou Temple uses natural language processing, which means it can understand and reply to questions or blessing requests in Mandarin and other languages. The system has been trained using stories, religious books and teachings about Mazu, so that the answers it gives stay respectful and traditional.
