Trump says Iran-Israel ceasefire 'now in effect'

ANKARA (Bernama-Anadolu): United States (US) President Donald Trump announced early Tuesday (June 24) that a ceasefire between Iran and Israel is now in effect, urging both sides to adhere to the agreement, Anadolu Ajansi (AA) reported. "THE CEASEFIRE IS NOW IN EFFECT. PLEASE DO NOT VIOLATE IT!" Trump wrote on his social media platform, Truth Social, on Tuesday. On Monday (June 23), Trump said that Israel and Iran had agreed to a "complete and total" ceasefire amid escalating tensions in the Middle East. The ceasefire came after Iran launched a barrage of missiles at the US military's Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar on Monday, marking a significant escalation following US airstrikes on three Iranian nuclear facilities the previous day. US Central Command (CentCom) said American forces, in coordination with Qatar, "successfully" defended against the attack, confirming there were no casualties among US or Qatari personnel. Regional tensions surged on Sunday (June 22) after US strikes targeted Iran's Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan nuclear sites. The operation marked the latest phase of a US-backed Israeli military campaign against Iran that began on June 13. - Bernama-Anadolu

East Coast States Have Great Potential In Future Tech Development

KUALA TERENGGANU, June 24 (Bernama) -- The states on the East Coast, including Terengganu, have great potential to be involved in the development of future technology. The Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) Chang Lih Kang said that for example, investment in strategic fields such as the carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS) industry, which is expected to be implemented in Terengganu, not only opens up new economic opportunities but also requires specific skills from the local workforce. "This signifies the importance of efforts to empower talent among the youth to become part of the value chain of the country's high-tech industry," he said at the opening ceremony of the National Science Week (MSN) 2025 Carnival for the East Coast Zone, officiated by the Terengganu Chief Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar at the Terengganu Science and Creativity Centre (PSKT) here today. Meanwhile, Chang said that the increasing foreign and domestic investments in the high-tech sector not only demonstrate investors' confidence in the MADANI government's administration and policies but also require Malaysia to continue ensuring that the supply of talent aligns with industry demand. He said therefore the federal government's approach that emphasises justice and balanced development, regardless of political beliefs, is very important, whereby the states on the East Coast, especially Terengganu, continue to receive attention in terms of investment, education, and support for the cultivation of Science, Technology, and Innovation so that the benefits of development can be felt comprehensively. "In this spirit, MOSTI warmly welcomes the active cooperation of the state government, educational institutions, private sector, and community organisations in advancing the agenda for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) talent development and innovation. "Only through comprehensive cooperation can we build a future for the country that is truly based on knowledge, technology and sustainability," he added. The MSN 2025 Carnival for the East Coast Zone will be held for three days, starting today until Thursday. The programme is a MOSTI initiative through the National Science Centre aimed at ensuring Malaysia can lead the future technological and economic transformation, targeting the involvement of various stakeholders such as school students, higher education institution students, teachers, researchers, industry players and the public.

Malaysia Closely Monitoring Security Situation In Qatar, No Malaysians Affected

KUALA LUMPUR, June 24 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's Foreign Ministry is closely monitoring the security situation in Qatar, and is prepared to take appropriate measures, if necessary. To date, no Malaysian has been affected. 'The safety and well-being of Malaysian citizens remain the government's utmost priority. bootstrap slideshow 'Updates will be provided through official media channels as necessary,' the ministry said, adding that it is maintaining close communication with the local authorities as well as registered Malaysians in the country. On Monday, Iran carried out a missile strike on the United States (US) Al Udeid military base in Qatar. The strike followed a US offensive on Sunday on three of Iran's nuclear facilities in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan, marking a dramatic escalation in hostilities in the US-backed Israeli campaign against Iran that began on June 13. In response, Qatar temporarily shut down its airspace on Monday evening. The closure has disrupted several flights, including those involving Malaysian citizens. Qatar has since reopened its airspace, according to the Malaysian Embassy in Doha.
