WATCH: Texans QB C.J. Stroud returns to practice, throwing during minicamp
Houston Texans fans can exhale a sigh of relief following the start of Tuesday's mandatory minicamp at the Methodist Training Center.
Third-year Pro Bowl quarterback C.J. Stroud threw passes for the first time in almost a month during the opening of Tuesday's minicamp practice. He connected on several completions to Pro Bowl wide receiver Nico Collins and rookie Jayden Higgins that caught the eye of reporters in practice.
Here's a look at several throws during the early stages of team drills.
Stroud was kept from throwing during the Texans' OTA practices over the last two weeks because he was dealing with 'general soreness' in his throwing shoulder, according to head coach DeMeco Ryans. Both Ryans and first-year offensive coordinator Nick Caley said that they weren't concerned with Stroud missing reps and he'd be ready to go ahead of training camp.
Stroud is in a pivotal year for the Texans after leading the franchise to back-to-back division titles. With a pair of losses in the divisional round, Houston spent the offeseason trying to revamp the offense and put the franchise quarterback in a better position to succeed.
While Stroud didn't throw during team drills, the fact that he was throwing at practice in general is a promising sign. Houston could elevate his reps on Wednesday's practice to close out minicamp with the media.
The Texans open the regular season on the road against the Los Angeles Rams at SoFi Stadium on Sept. 7.

Since last week, it became clear the Washington Commanders aren't on the greatest of terms with their star wide receiver, Terry McLaurin. Heading into the final season of his current contract, McLaurin wants a new deal before he gets going for the 2025 NFL season. The Commanders fired up OTAs in the spring, and McLaurin made a silent statement by not being around the team. Since the sessions were voluntary, McLaurin's absence didn't hold that much weight. As a result, there's at least some level of doubt surrounding McLaurin's future with the Commanders. Without a new contract in place for the veteran wideout, Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox kicked around a trade idea that would gift the Pittsburgh Steelers and their new quarterback, Aaron Rodgers, the disgruntled star pass-catcher. In the hypothetical deal, the Commanders would acquire a 2026 first-round pick from the Steelers and a 2027 fifth-round pick, which would come from the Dallas Cowboys. "...Though Rodgers had a largely forgettable season with the Jets in 2024, he was coming back from a torn Achilles. In theory, the 41-year-old will be an upgrade over last year's duo of Fields and Russell Wilson. If the Steelers hope to make a legitimate run at a Super Bowl with Rodgers, however, they should look for all of the receiver help they can get. McLaurin, who is a pristine route-runner who can attack all areas of the field, would complement Rodgers well." Acquiring McLaurin certainly wouldn't come cheap for Pittsburgh. However, if they want to maximize the gamble of bringing on Aaron Rodgers, who could end up being a one-year rental, McLaurin could bring a lot of value to the field. Last season, McLaurin appeared in 17 games for the Commanders. He formed a solid connection with Washington's first-round rookie, Jayden Daniels. The veteran wideout caught 82 passes for 1,096 yards and scored 13 touchdowns. McLaurin added a second Pro Bowl nod to his resume and became an All-Pro for the first time in his career. While picking up McLaurin in this scenario would be a move to stack up weapons for the 41-year-old Rodgers to try and win right away, the Steelers would get an opportunity to secure a proven star receiver for years to come. So far, the Commanders haven't reached a point of no return with McLaurin. Comments from Jayden Daniels and the head coach, Dan Quinn, suggest that everybody but McLaurin's reps and the Washington front office are on the same page. McLaurin might be a holdout right now, but the Commanders seem confident that the situation will get resolved soon.

Breece Hall thought he might be traded until Aaron Glenn called him
Breece Hall was on the trade market . . . unless he wasn't. The Jets running back heard the rumors, and until new coach Aaron Glenn called him to quell the speculation, Hall wasn't certain what his future held. 'I mean, I was seeing it just like everybody else was seeing it,' Hall said Wednesday, via video from Ralph Vacchiano of SNY. 'But if people feel like you're not doing your job, you're going to be replaced. It didn't happen. . . . AG called me and told me he wanted me to be here. So, you know, for me, that meant a lot. I'm here. I'm here to work and ready to do my job. I'm proving that I deserve to be here.' General Manager Darren Mougey refuted any trade talk involving Hall during the draft, saying the Jets had not considered dealing Hall. Glenn told Hall the same thing in a phone call. 'At first I was like, 'OK, we'll see what happens,' and then AG called me and told me, he's like, 'Breece, do you think I want to trade you?'' Hall said. 'I was like, 'I don't know.' He was like, 'Breece, I don't want to trade you. I want you to be here. You're going to be our running back.' So, that felt really good.' Hall averaged a career-low 4.2 yards per carry and a career-low 54.8 yards per game in 2024. Even though he played 16 games, Hall revealed he had a 'pretty serious' knee injury. He admits last season 'sucked' in every way as the Jets went 5-12. 'Yeah, it's always frustrating as a team and as an individual when you're not winning games and playing as well as you expect,' Hall said. 'Then, after the season, there's always someone to blame or the blame is put on. A lot of it just so happened to kind of be on me. So, it was like, 'OK, just get back to the drawing board, just get back to working hard.' I know what kind of potential I have, but potential only goes so far. I want to be a product. I want to be able to say that I've done everything I wanted to do.' Hall is entering the fourth and final season of his rookie deal and still looking for his first 1,000-yard rushing season and his first Pro Bowl. Glenn has indicated the team would have a running back by committee, with Braelon Allen, Isaiah Davis and Kene Nwangwu also on the depth chart at the position. 'I'm not obligated anything. I've got to go and prove that I am the guy,' Hall said. 'I feel like I am a three-down back. Every day I'm going to prove I'm the best back on this roster and one of the best backs in the league.'
