AP Dhillon Home Attack Was To Create Fear For Extortion, Admits Goldy Brar: 'To Feed A Family…'

Last Updated: Goldy Brar admits AP Dhillon's Canada home was attacked to spread fear, aiding extortion efforts by the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, as revealed in BBC's The Killing Call. After Sidhu Moosewala's tragic killing in 2022, the Lawrence Bishnoi gang ramped up its activities—sending threats to public figures including Salman Khan, Gippy Grewal, and singer AP Dhillon. In 2024, AP Dhillon's residence in Canada was targeted in a shooting. Although the singer was not harmed, the message behind the attack was loud and clear: it was meant to create fear. In the BBC documentary The Killing Call, investigative journalist Ishleen Kaur spoke directly with gangster Goldy Brar—closely associated with the Bishnoi gang—about the group's motives. Brar justified the group's actions, stating, 'To feed a family of four, a man has to struggle all his life. We have to look after hundreds or even thousands of people who are like family to us. We have to extort people. To get money, we have to be feared." Brar also reiterated that the murder of Sidhu Moosewala was, in their view, retaliation for the killing of Vicky Middukhera. 'They took Sidhu's fame and in an instant, transformed it into their own notoriety, and it was that notoriety that made it a lot easier for them to extort money," said Ishleen Kaur in the film. When asked whether targeting Dhillon's house was a move to dominate the Punjabi music space, Brar didn't deny the implication, suggesting it was about creating an atmosphere of fear—making extortion calls more effective. The gang's visibility and operations have grown significantly since Moosewala's death, turning them into infamous figures across India and abroad. The shooting at AP Dhillon's home was one more example of how intimidation has become a key weapon in their arsenal. The shooting occurred in September 2024, shortly after Dhillon released a music video featuring Bollywood actor Salman Khan, with whom the Lawrence Bishnoi gang has a known rivalry. The gang has allegedly threatened Dhillon, warning him to 'stay within his limits." In a chilling message after the shootings, the gang warned Dhillon to 'stay within his limits" or face severe consequences, like a 'dog's death". First Published: June 11, 2025, 19:24 IST

India Bowling Coach Reacts To Bumrah Not Being Ready: 'Blown Away By The Energy'

Last Updated: Morne Morkel, India's bowling coach, dismissed concerns about Jasprit Bumrah's preparation for the England tour, praising his energy and readiness. India's bowling coach, Morne Morkel, dismissed the theory about Jasprit Bumrah being underprepared for the tour of England with only a few Indian Premier League (IPL) matches under his belt. 'He (Bumrah) knows how to get himself ready and prepare. I was blown away by the energy in his bowling over the last three days. So that's very exciting to see a happy 'Boom'," Morne Morkel told reporters during India's training session. 'I'm just happy his body is in good shape at the moment, and we'll manage him well. We'll be smart with him because he's obviously key for us," he added. Morkel is confident that the Indian team has covered all its bases in squad selection. 'I think we've covered all bases. But our key now is to get Test match fit and ready, to regain that sharpness since we haven't played Test matches for a while. 'In England, the conditions can suit you if it's overcast, but the surfaces will still be good. We're going to be testing that." The key is to have players fit and match-ready to ensure they can stay on the field for 90 overs, said Morkel. 'We've only had three sessions so far. We've got a four-day warm-up game against India A starting in two days. I'll be more interested to see how our guys perform in that game," Morkel said. While India has already had three sessions, Morkel said it's not a great indicator of a player's ability to stay on the field. 'It's one thing to judge a net session, but for our guys to stand in the field and get used to doing 90 overs, that's going to take some time. We need to realise that and be patient. 'We need to find a way to get up to speed as quickly as possible because that's going to be a real test." Morkel couldn't be happier watching the players take ownership and responsibility during training sessions. 'That's one of the things that has impressed me so much in these two days. The guys have stepped up by themselves, taking ownership and responsibility, realising that it's going to be a tough tour. 'As coaches, it's pleasing to see players taking leadership and ownership in practice." (With inputs from PTI) First Published: June 11, 2025, 20:41 IST
