Air India plane crash: 177 DNA matches confirmed, says Gujarat Home Minister
Gandhinagar (Gujarat) [India], June 18 (ANI): Gujarat Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi announced on Tuesday that 177 DNA samples have been matched so far after the tragic London-bound Air India plane crash.
In a post on X, the minister wrote, 'Air India crash update: As of now, 177 DNA have been matched.'
The testing was being done by teams from the FSL and National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU).
Earlier in the day, Ahmedabad Civil Hospital Superintendent Rakesh Joshi reported that a total of 163 DNA samples have been matched.
During a press conference, Joshi provided a detailed account of the count, noting that out of the remaining 39 of the 163 matched victims, mortal remains of 21 deceased will be handed over to their families by Wednesday morning and remains of two deceased are in the process of being handed over.
He stated that more than 12 families were waiting for the results, and the handing over of four dead bodies is on hold due to some legal issues.'Till 5.45 pm today, 163 DNA samples have matched. Following which, the mortal remains of 124 deceased have been handed over to their families... Out of the remaining 39, the mortal remains of 21 deceased will be handed over to their families by morning. Mortal remains of two deceased are in the process of being handed over. 12 families are waiting for the results... Handing over of four dead bodies is on hold due to some legal issues,' Joshi stated.
He further stated that on the day of the crash, 71 injured individuals were admitted to the Civil Hospital, with 42 subsequently discharged and currently, nine patients remain admitted, while two succumbed to their injuries after admission.
'On the day of the crash, 71 injured people were admitted to the Civil Hospital. Out of them, 42 have been discharged. As of now, nine patients are admitted. Two people had passed away after they were admitted,' he added.
On June 12, the London-bound Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft crashed into a hostel complex of the BJ Medical College in the Meghani Nagar area of Gujarat's Ahmedabad shortly after takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, killing 241 passengers and crew out of 242 onboard, including former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani. "COVID is on a decline," says PGIMER Director Dr Vivek Lal
Chandigarh (Punjab) [India], May 18 (ANI): The Director of the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Dr Vivek Lal, has stated that COVID-19 is under control in India, with no new cases reported in the past week. He credited the strong vaccination drive led by Prime Minister Modi for keeping the virus at bay. Speaking to ANI on Tuesday, PGIMER Director Lal said, 'We are absolutely prepared for COVID-19, but it is on a decline. I don't think a single patient has tested positive in the last week. COVID-19 is under control in India because we had a very good vaccination drive under the leadership of PM Modi. The vaccination drive is still there and is protecting us.' However, despite the optimistic outlook at the national level, sporadic cases are still being reported in some regions. Rajasthan reported 29 new COVID-19 cases on Monday, taking the total number of cases this year to 456. According to the latest data, the cases were reported from various hospitals across the state, including Rajasthan Hospital, SPMC Bikaner, AIIMS Jodhpur, RTPCR Chittorgarh, SDMH Jaipur, EHCC Jaipur, SMS Jaipur, M Genix Jaipur, and RNT Jodhpur. The cases include a 20-year-old male from Banswara, an 18-year-old female from Bikaner, a 30-year-old female and a 27-year-old male from Chittorgarh, a 63-year-old female from Dausa, and a 27-year-old male from Jaipur, 14 new cases were reported, including males aged 17, 39, 53, and 40, and females aged 19, 26, 10, 75, 30, 31, 50, 29, 22, and 21. Eight cases were also reported in Jodhpur, including a 27-year-old male. Other districts reporting cases include Karauli, with a 59-year-old female, Kota, with a 27-year-old male, and Udaipur, where six cases were recorded, including males aged 48 and 45 and females aged 28, 56, 57, and 58. So far this year, Rajasthan has reported 456 COVID-19 cases, including 251 active cases, 202 recoveries, and two deaths. Uttar Pradesh: 5 killed, 1 injured as car overturns, catches fire in Bulandshahr district
ANI 18 Jun 2025, 10:07 GMT+10 Bulandshahr (Uttar Pradesh) [India], June 18 (ANI): At least five people were killed and one sustained injuries after the car they were travelling in rammed into the side of a bridge, overturned and caught fire in Bulandshahr district of Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday morning, according to local police officials. In an official statement, Tejveer Singh, Superintendent of Police (Rural), Bulandshahr, said, 'At 5.50 am today, information was received at Jahangirabad Police that a car met with an accident near Janipur village on the Jahangirabad-Bulandshahr route under the Police Station area. Police and the Fire Brigade reached the spot and initiated a rescue operation. One injured, Gulnaz, has been sent for medical treatment. The other five passengers have died.' He further added, 'Initial investigation reveals that these six were returning to Malviya Nagar in Delhi after attending a wedding in Budaun. The driver suddenly felt sleepy in the morning, the vehicle lost balance, rammed into the sides of a bridge, overturned and burst into flames...' Further investigation is underway.(ANI)
