Illegal occupants evicted from varsity colony

The Bahauddin Zakariya University (BZU) has launched an operation against illegal occupants in the university colony after the Eid holidays.
According to sources, several individuals had been residing unlawfully in staff houses.
Taking notice of the situation, the university administration ensured the immediate eviction of the unauthorised occupants.
The vacated houses have now been allotted to eligible employees on merit. The administration emphasised that the rule of law and institutional authority would be upheld at all cost.
In a statement, the university clarified that strict legal action would be taken against those found involved in such violations.
It stated that irregularities would not be tolerated in the future and transparency in all allotments would remain the top priority.
Meanwhile, South Punjab Health and Population Special Secretary Muhammad Shahbaz Hussain said while addressing at a seminar at the BZU that no society can achieve sustainable development without educational and human progress, and healthy mother is the guarantee of healthy future generations.
He said, "The World Health Day reminds us that health is a fundamental right of every individual," adding that the purpose of celebrating the day is to raise awareness about the fundamental and essential importance of health.
He said the provincial government is continuously striving to provide quality medical facilities to people in remote areas of South Punjab, for which comprehensive health reforms have been initiated.

While Eidul Azha is also known as Bakra Eid because it is celebrated with a variety of rich and flavourful meat dishes, but doctors are cautioning against overeating and improper meat storage, both of which have led to a rise in gastrointestinal diseases. Every year, doctors report a surge in patients suffering from stomach-related ailments such as diarrhea, cholera, and abdominal pain during Eidul Azha. These cases are largely attributed to excessive meat consumption, spicy food, and unsafe food handling practices. "We see a big increase in the number of patients with gastrointestinal issues starting from the first day of Eidul Azha. Most cases are linked to overeating and the consumption of heavily spiced foods," Dr Imran Sarwar, Emergency In-Charge at Civil Hospital, said while talking to The Express Tribune. He further stated that prolonged power outages and extreme summer temperatures can spoil frozen meat, potentially leading to the development of toxins. "Improperly stored meat becomes a health hazard," Dr Sarwar added. "It is essential to use polythene bags or airtight containers to store meat in the freezer. Plastic bags should be avoided, as they do not prevent freezer gases from affecting the meat." Doctors recommend moderation in both portion sizes and cooking methods. Adults should limit their daily meat intake to 100-150 grams, while children should consume no more than 70 grams. Those with chronic health conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, high cholesterol, or uric acid issues are advised to be particularly cautious. "Goat meat is generally lighter and easier to digest than beef," Dr Sarwar said. "However, it should still be cooked with mild spices and accompanied by yogurt, fresh salads, fruits, and vegetables to aid digestion." Doctors urge the public to exercise dietary restraint and adopt safe food storage practices to prevent illness and ensure a healthy, enjoyable Eid celebration.

Heatwave dampens Eid recreation
A severe heatwave gripped South Punjab during the Eid holidays, forcing people to stay indoors as temperatures soared up to 45 degrees Celsius across the region. Public parks, recreational spots and streets wore a deserted look during what is usually a festive holiday season. The extreme heat left little room for traditional family outings or outdoor celebrations. "It's just too hot. We don't even feel like stepping out of the house," said Salman Amjad, a local resident. "You feel drained the moment you open the door." According to the Meteorological Department, the heatwave is expected to persist until June 12, with no significant drop in temperature forecast in the coming days. Many residents, especially those who returned to their hometowns for the Eid, preferred staying indoors with their families. "We chose to stay inside. After eating meat, the heat feels even more unbearable," said Asim, a resident of Nawabpur. A healthcare expert, Dr Waqas Arqam, warned that high temperatures, combined with heavy meat intake on the Eid, might cause dehydration and fatigue. He advised citizens to drink plenty of water, avoid exposure to the sun and limit physical activity. Local authorities also reported a noticeable drop in footfall at public places, with parks, play areas and tourist spots largely empty on all three Eid days.

Eid carnage: 55 dead
At least 55 people lost their lives in various incidents across Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa during the three-day Eidul Azha holidays, while 50 others sustained injuries in separate firing incidents. The injured were promptly shifted to nearby hospitals for medical treatment. According to Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Director General Rescue 1122, Shah Fahad, Rescue 1122 responded to a total of 1,999 emergencies during the Eid holidays and provided medical assistance to 1,897 individuals. Out of these, 1,400 were medical emergencies, with patients given first aid and subsequently transported to hospitals. The province witnessed 349 road accidents, the highest of which43 incidentswere reported in Peshawar alone. Furthermore, there were 112 cases of fire, six drowning incidents in rivers and dams, and 82 recovery operations. Rescue 1122 also responded to 50 crime-related incidents. Bilal Ahmad Faizi, spokesperson for Rescue 1122, confirmed that the 55 fatalities were distributed as follows: Peshawar,13 deaths, Mardan: 14, DI Khan, Abbottabad, Bannu, Buner, and Battagram: 2 deaths each, Nowshera, Bajaur, and Kurram: 3 deaths each, Haripur: 4, North Waziristan, Kohat, and Khyber: 1 death each reported to Rescue. In Peshawar alone, Rescue 1122 dealt with 418 total emergencies, including 43 road accidents, 338 medical cases.
