Orico Addresses The Need For Speed With Industrial-Grade NVMe PCIe 4.0 SSD

Forbes16-04-2025

The new Industrial-grade IG740-PRO SSD can achieve read speeds up to 7,450MB/s.
If you want to upgrade the storage on your laptop or fancy creating an ultra-fast external drive, there is very little that can beat the latest generation of NVMe SSDs. The latest SSD to be announced by storage specialist Orico is the IG740-PRO Industrial-grade 2TB M.2 NVMe SSD with PCIe 4.0 interface and has a theoretical sequential read speed up to 7,450MB/s.
The new SSD uses TLC NAND and features advanced data security and a heatsink for controlling thermal build-up. The SSD is aimed at high-performance industrial PCs, personal laptops, external drive housings and even Sony PlayStation 5.
Orico says its new SSD has been engineered with rigorous multi-level testing to create an M.2 SSD with a mean time between failure exceeding 1.5 million hours. It also has a low raw bit error rate and enhanced write endurance for mission-critical applications in industrial and enterprise settings.
Powered by a PCIe 4.0 interface and using NVMe 2.0 protocol, the IG740-PRO SSD is available in 1TB and 2TB capacities. It can deliver read speeds of up to 7,450MB/s, although that does depend on the host device. It can also deliver 1000K IOPS for smooth multitasking and ultra-responsive computing.
The new IG740-PRO NVMe SSD is designed for mission critical applications and is available in 1TB and ... More 2TB capacities.
Other advanced features include controlled BOM and firmware, power-loss protection, LDPC ECC error correction, flash management technology and AES encryption to ensure comprehensive data safety and reliability in critical applications.
Orico claims its Industrial SSD is suitable for edge computing, AI and big data applications, supporting industrial use with reliable performance, while delivering high speeds even with personal PCs, PS5, VR devices, and more, ensuring versatility across various applications.
For those seeing efficiency and stability, Orico says its SSD has exceptional TBW or Terabytes Written for reliability and speed. The 2TB NVMe has a TBW 1200 TBW, promising long-lasting durability and high performance.
The Orico IG740-PRO achieved speeds hip top 3,053MB/s on a Mac mini M2 Pro.
To see what kind of performance everyday users can expect, I put one of the 2TB Industrial SSDs into an Orico high-speed USB 3.2 external housings which I connected to a Thunderbolt port on my Mac mini M2 Pro.
Using the Blackmagic Disk Speed Test, the SSD returned a write speed was 2760.1MB/s and read speed was 3,053MB/s, which is not far off what the internal 1TB Apple SSD that my Mac mini can achieve. So, for anyone thinking of adding storage to a Mac, this could be one answer.
A word of warning about SSDs. Many people think because they are solid-state drives and not mechanical hard drives, that SSDs will run cool. Some do but many do not. Very fast SSDs need efficient cooling whether that is a heatsink or an enclosure with a fan. It's worth bearing in mind that an SSD that's not properly cooled can drop out or cause reliability issues.
Pricing & Availability:
The Orico IG740-PRO Industrial 2TB M.2 NVMe SSD with PCIe 4.0 interface is available now from Amazon and is priced at $139.99 for the 2TB version and $66.49 for the 1TB model.

I Made Google Translate My Default on iPhone Before a Trip and It Saved Me More Than Once

If you're traveling overseas this summer, the Google Translate app can come in handy to quickly translate a road sign or conversation. The latest Google Translate update allows you to pick the app as your default translation app for Apple iPhones and iPads running iOS and iPadOS 18.4 and later. Previously, you were limited to the built-in Apple option. Google began leveraging AI to boost Google Translate's offerings, adding 110 languages last year to increase its total support for 249 languages. Compare that to Apple Translate, which supports 19 languages. Neither Google nor Apple responded to a request for comment. Both apps offer voice and text translation, including a camera feature that lets you instantly translate by pointing your camera at text. Both also allow you to use translation features without an internet connection, which can come in particularly handy when traveling to more remote locations. After using both, I found that the Google Translate picked up speech a little quicker so I didn't have to constantly repeat myself, and the audio pronunciations were a little easier to understand than on Apple Translate. I switched to Google Translate as the default on my iPhone, and here's how you can, too. Watch this: Everything Announced at Google I/O 2025 15:40 How to set Google Translate as the default on an iPhone or iPad Setting Google Translate as your default app is simple on an iPhone or iPad, so long as it's running iOS and iPadOS 18.4 or later.

WWDC 2025 LIVE: iOS 26, Apple Intelligence and all the last-minute rumors

Apple's WWDC 2025 could bring the biggest visual changes to Apple's software in years, a whole new naming scheme and possibly new hardware. The new 'Soalrium' interface is said to be inspired by the visionOS that powers Apple's Vision Pro headset, and it figures to impact everything from the iPhone and iPad to Apple Watches. It sounds as if Apple wants a more unified software experience across its devices. Reports also claim that Apple is moving to a new naming convention — the updates will now be listed by year. In other words, get ready for iOS 26 instead of iOS 19. You'd also expect lots of announcements about AI, given the way Apple Intelligence dominated last year's WWDC. But a number of reports suggest a more modest approach to Apple Intelligence this year, as Apple works behind the scenes to recover from early stumbles and to make Siri better. We'll find out how many of these rumors come to pass when WWDC 2025 gets started on Monday at 1 p.m. ET/ 10 a.m. PT/ 6 p.m. BST. We'll be following all the announcements right here. For now, you can follow this live blog for the latest WWDC news and rumors as we wait for Apple to show off this year's software previews. We've got a full guide on how to watch the WWDC 2025 keynote, but in a nutshell, Apple offers a live stream of the keynote at the WWDC website, If you have an Apple device, you can also watch from the TV app. The easiest way to watch WWDC 2025 is via the live stream on YouTube, which we've embedded here.

16 Smart Ways to Save Money on MacBook Repairs in Dubai in 2025

Is your MacBook acting up, but you're worried about the repair costs? You're not alone! MacBook repairs can be expensive, especially if you're on a tight budget. But don't worry—there are smart ways to save money and still get quality service. Here's your complete guide to affordable MacBook repairs in dubai! Before you do anything, check if your MacBook is still under warranty or covered by AppleCare+. AppleCare+ can save you a lot, as it covers many repairs for a small service fee. You can check your coverage on Apple's official website. If you're covered, use it! Before any repair—DIY or professional—make sure to back up your important files. Repairs can sometimes lead to data loss, so use Time Machine, iCloud, or an external drive to keep your data safe. Don't rush to the first repair shop you find. Call at least five local Macbook Repair Services Dubai, compare their prices, and ask for written estimates. Make sure you know exactly what you're paying for—parts, labor, and any extra charges. Look for repair shops with good reviews, proper certifications, and clear warranties. If possible, choose an Apple Authorized Service Provider. This way, you know your MacBook is in safe hands. If you need a part replaced, ask if the shop uses original (OEM) parts. Used OEM parts from trusted sellers can also save you money. Never buy cheap parts from unknown sources—they might damage your MacBook even more. Are you a student, teacher, or military personnel? Many repair shops and Apple itself offer special discounts. Always ask if you qualify for any deals or seasonal offers. Once you know the average repair cost, don't hesitate to negotiate. Some shops are willing to lower their prices, especially if you're a repeat customer or bringing in multiple devices. Don't let anyone talk you into fixing things that aren't broken. If you're not sure what's wrong, do some research online or get a second opinion. Sometimes, a simple fix is all you need. If your MacBook is old or the repair cost is very high, think about buying a refurbished or newer model. Sometimes, upgrading is more cost-effective in the long run. If you're not sure, it's safer to let a pro handle it. Also, using the wrong tools or making a mistake can make things worse. If you do try a DIY repair, make sure you have the correct screwdrivers and an anti-static wrist strap. Work on a clean, well-lit surface to avoid damaging your MacBook. Take care of your MacBook to avoid future problems: Keep it clean and dust-free. Use a protective case. Avoid eating or drinking near your laptop. Don't overload it with too many apps. Keep your software updated. If you notice a problem, get it checked sooner rather than later. Waiting can make things worse and more expensive to fix. Always use trusted repair shops and sellers. Cheap, fake parts can cause more damage and cost you more in the end. If your MacBook is badly damaged and you can't access your files, professional data recovery might be your only option. These services can be pricey, so use them only if your data is irreplaceable. Apple now offers a self-repair program, but it can be complicated and sometimes expensive.
