Aberdeen's return to form has coincided with one all-important factor: Kevin Nisbet is looking like his old goalscoring self.With a European spot in their sights after securing top six, and a Scottish Cup semi-final against Hearts on the horizon, Scotland striker Nisbet is hitting his stride at the opportune moment for Jimmy Thelin's side.Nisbet's double - his second brace in four games - in the 4-1 weekend trouncing of Motherwell took his tally to seven goals in his past eight matches, only one of which the Dons have lost.The 28-year-old put Saturday's game to bed with a header and 30-yard stunner from a combined xG of just 0.51, but it's not just his form in front of goal that's lifting spirits again around Pittodrie.The on-loan Millwall forward also created two chances for his team-mates, recovered the ball four times, and had the highest passing accuracy of anyone who played more than 45 minutes, with 19 of his 20 passes finding a red shirt. All while having the fewest touches, 38, of any outfield player, showing his ability to be an effective part of the game while often doing a lot of his work off the ball."Crucial for Aberdeen has been the return to form of Nisbet," Sunday Mail chief football writer Scott McDermott told the Scottish Football Podcast."He was just not producing enough, or not producing the form that we knew he was capable of obviously from his Hibs days. But something seems to have clicked in the last few weeks."He's back among the goals. And when you've got that threat that can pretty much guarantee goals up front, it's obviously a massive, massive help."

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand says Viktor Gyokeres should be 'causing a nightmare' at Sporting if he wishes to secure a move to the Premier League this summer. Gyokeres, 27, has established himself as one of the most sought-after attacking players in European football on the back of two outstanding seasons with Sporting, in which he scored 97 goals in 102 appearances. The Portuguese champions have grown increasingly resigned to losing their prized possession amid strong interest from the Premier League, with Arsenal currently leading Manchester United in the race for the prolific forward. However, Gyokeres' path to English football is currently being blocked by Sporting president Frederico Varandas, who is disputing claims made by the Swede's camp. A 'furious' Gyokeres had been under the impression he could leave for a fee of £59million, but Varandas is denying the existence of a supposed gentleman's agreement with the striker. 'I'll tell you one thing, I would be in his [Varandas'] office and he wouldn't be able to leave me,' ex-United and England defender Ferdinand told talkSPORT when asked about the latest rumours. 'I'd be in his bed, I'd be in his front room, his kitchen, he wouldn't be able to get me out of his sight. 'I'd be causing him a nightmare to get out if we'd had an agreement. 'I did that when I was at Leeds. I heard that Manchester United were interested in me and I knew had to let me go. 'I went to Peter Ridsdale and said, 'Listen, I know you need to sell me, let's not haggle over a couple of million here and there and let's get a deal done', and I was there for hours waiting and ended up getting it done.' While Ferdinand has been impressed by Gyokeres' extraordinary numbers in Portuguese football, he believes the jury is still out on the Sweden international being able to mix it with the best. According to Ferdinand, United ideally should be scouring the market for a proven No.9 with 'experience'. 'Is he the right guy? Listen, he has some really good attributes. I've not seen enough of him to be totally convinced,' the six-time Premier League winner added. 'The games I have seen him in, in the Champions League against players that match him up physically, I'd love to see a bit more. 'But there's no denying that he knows where the goal is. He's playing in Portugal where he's been banging in and setting up goals left, right and centre the last couple of years. 'I just think for Manchester United, at this moment in time, I would go for experience more than anything.' Gyokeres reassured fans he would 'speak when the time is right' as he took to Instagram amid incessant speculation over his future on Friday. 'There's a lot of talk at the moment, most of it false,' Gyokeres wrote. 'I will speak when the time is right.' Gyokeres' current contract in Lisbon runs through to June 2028. 'He is very happy here,' Sporting manager Rui Borges said when asked for an update on Gyokeres' future after the club successfully defended their Primeira Liga title. 'He is very connected to the game, he wants to score and he is obsessed with it. 'He is the best striker in Europe, as the numbers show. The Hearts No1 admits he had to be SELFISH and look after himself despite the Light Blues hard work to get him back playing Craig Gordon rebuilt his career with Celtic. But it was at Rangers that the goalkeeper rebuilt his knee – and thus made the biggest save of his life. His playing days. Rangers physio Steven Walker helped him get back between the sticks in 2014 after two years out injured. But the Hearts legend admits he had to be SELFISH and look after number one when deciding on his next move. He would go on to lift 12 trophies including five league titles with Celtic. Incredibly, 11 years later, Gordon's on course to break the 700 club appearances milestone and he is now on 81 Scotland caps with the 2026 World Cup still in his sights. And he owes the majority of all that, in no small part, to Ibrox physio Walker. A total of 41 caps and nearly 400 club appearances have come in the 11 years since his miraculous recovery from a series of knee injuries at Sunderland that looked to have ended his career. Gordon had three operations and underwent treatment in Barcelona and London before spending the best part of a year working with Walker. Now, as he looks forward to his testimonial season at his beloved Jambos, Gordon said: 'I probably thought that I wouldn't play again. 'When I went into Rangers I worked with Steven and he was really good. 'He was the guy that worked out how to get me back. 'It came through Jim Stewart, who had been a goalkeeping coach at Hearts and Scotland, and who was with Rangers at the time. 'Rangers had already rehabilitated a Norwegian guy, Thomas Kind Bendiksen, with a very similar injury. 'I had PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) injections over in Barcelona with the guy that Pep Guardiola sends his players to. 'I had high-volume injections in London. I had all the different treatments I could possibly do to chuck everything at it. 'But if it's one person who turned it round, I would say it would be Steven. He was able to devise a programme that enabled me to build up the muscle around my knee to take the load off the tendon. 'I just never know what would have happened without that. Once I realised there was a chance to get back, I poured everything into it to give myself that one last opportunity to get to the bottom of it.' That was the start of a series of opportunities that have led Gordon miraculously back to the top. By summer 2014, more than two years after his last appearance for Sunderland, he was in a condition ready to resume his career. Not at Rangers though. At Celtic Park where Ronny Deila handed him his big chance. He said: 'At certain times as a footballer you've got to be a bit selfish and do the thing that's best for you. 'And that was the best thing for me, for my career, to play at the highest level. 'Rangers were in the lower leagues at the time and took a further three years to come to the Premiership. I managed to get those three years playing in the Premiership and playing for Scotland that perhaps maybe I wouldn't have had. 'It was a difficult thing to do but sometimes you've got to do what's best. 'Rangers already had two senior goalkeepers. 'To add another one at that stage probably wasn't financially the right thing for them to do. 'They wanted me to play in a couple of reserve games to prove that I was fit enough to stay there. 'If I had done that then my injury insurance would have been invalid. So I just couldn't do that. 'That was the reason why that never happened. 'I spoke to Raith Rovers. Hearts had Jamie MacDonald and didn't know if he was going to be leaving. I think Neil Alexander came in. 'Then Celtic came in. I knew I would have really good medical care there. I could give it the best possible chance to continue my rehab and try to get some games. 'There was obviously speculation about Fraser Forster so there was a little chink of light – him potentially moving on. 'It all fell into place at exactly the right time. 'I managed to play 50 games my first season back after not playing for two years. 'I didn't know it was possible until I managed to do it.'
