Eight IPS officers in Chhattisgarh get new postings for anti-Maoist operations
The Chhattisgarh Government has issued fresh postings to eight Indian Police Service (IPS) officers and deployed them on the anti-Maoist operations duty in the State, officials said on Wednesday (June 11, 2025).
The development comes after Akash Girepunje, the Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP-Konta division) in Sukma district, lost his life in a Maoist-planted IED blast on Monday (June 9).
All the eight transferred IPS officers, belonging to the 2021 batch, were posted as City Superintendents of Police (CSP) in different districts, a government official said, adding the State Home Department issued the transfer order on Tuesday (June 10).
As per the order, Surguja CSP Rohit Kumar Shah has been posted as Additional Superintendent of Police (anti-Maoist operations) in Sukma district, and CSP Jagdalpur (Bastar district) Udit Pushkar as ASP (anti-Maoist operations) in Dantewada district.
Korba CSP Ravindra Kumar Meena and Raipur CSP Aman Kumar Raman Kumar Jha have been posted as ASPs (anti-Maoist operations) Bijapur district.
CSP Jagdalpur Akash Shrishrimal will be ASP (anti-Maoist operations) Bhanupratappur in Kanker district, it said.
CSP Civil Lines Raipur Ajay Kumar and CSP Bilaspur Akshay Pramod Sabadra have been posted as ASPs (anti-Maoist operations) in Narayanpur district.
Besides, Raigarh CSP Akash Kumar Shukla has been posted as ASP (anti-Maoist operations), Special Task Force, Baghera in Durg district.
On Monday (June 9), ASP Girepunje was killed and two other police officers were injured after an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by Maoists exploded at a stone quarry near Dondra village in Sukma district.

Sukma: In a major breakthrough in the ongoing anti-Maoist operations in Chhattisgarh, security forces recovered the bodies of two senior Maoists following an intense encounter in the forested terrain of Dunampara Pusgunna within Kukanar police station in the Sukma district, officials said on Thursday. The deceased have been identified as Muchaki Baman, a commander of the Katekalyan Area Committee carrying a bounty of Rs 5 lakh, and senior Maoist cadre Anita Avalam, both considered key operatives in the banned Communist Party of India-Maoist outfit. Baman was a resident of Chikpal under Katekalyan police limits in Dantewada district, while Avalam hailed from the Bijapur region, the officials said. The joint team, comprising personnel of the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and local police, launched the operation based on intelligence inputs indicating Maoist presence in the hilly jungles linked to the Katekalyan Area Committee. According to the Superintendent of Police Kiran Chavan, the exchange of fire began at around 2 p.m. and lasted for several hours, officials added. In addition to the two bodies, security forces recovered an INSAS rifle, a Bharmar firearm, and a significant cache of explosives as well as Maoist materials from the site. The seized items include four gelatin sticks, 10 detonators, 17 rounds of INSAS ammunition, five cartridges of 12-bore ammunition, a soap bomb, a tiffin bomb, wire coils, safety fuses, and other incriminating materials. Inspector General of Police (Bastar Range), Sundarraj P, said that the latest operation is part of a sustained campaign against Maoist extremism in the region. He noted that between January 2024 and June 2025, security forces under the Bastar division have recovered the bodies of 411 Maoists through coordinated action. He said that security forces such as the DRG, Special Task Force, Commando Battalion for Resolute Action, Central Reserve Police Force, Border Security Force, Indo-Tibetan Border Police, Central Armed Police Forces, and the Bastar Fighters are working with determination under the banner of "Sankalp: Naxal Mukt Bastar Mission". IGP Sundarraj highlighted that the Maoist movement, once emblematic of fear and disruption in Bastar, has reached a stage of fading into oblivion. He added that the region is now witnessing the early promise of peace and development, with operations continuing to dismantle the insurgency's remaining strongholds.

Former Bangladesh PM urges party members to unite people against Yunus' ‘illegal' government
Dhaka, June 12 (UNI) Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has urged party leaders and activists to stand by the people, unite them, and launch a robust movement to oust the 'illegal' interim government led by 'conspirator and mob king', Chief Advisor Mohammed Yunus. In her latest audio message, the 77-year-old Awami League president called Yunus, his aides, and student coordinators criminals, accusing them of plundering public funds, killing Awami League members, and looting their homes and businesses. She alleged that the leaders of the so-called Anti-Discrimination Movement are now ironically fostering discrimination across the country, promoting the rampant rise of Islamic extremism and eroding its political fabric, reports the party's media agency Daily Republic. Sheikh Hasina noted that the anti-quota movement remained peaceful until July 15, but thereafter, protesters began attacking police, torching government buildings, and blocking roads. Accusing the SAD members of targeting police and military personnel, she highlighted her administration's work in domestic security, stating that it necessary actions to protect lives and property.
