Boxer Claressa Shields expressed her surprise on X after losing the Sportswoman of the Year Award to WNBA star Angel Reese at the 2025 BET Awards.
According to Vibe, Shields, who was nominated alongside top athletes like Dawn Staley, A'ja Wilson, Sha'Carri Richardson, Simone Biles, Flau'jae Johnson, Coco Gauff and JuJu Watkins, shared her thoughts about the loss.
Claressa Shields congratulated Reese, but says 'I just thought accolades mattered'
'Still don't know how I didn't win the Sportswoman of the Year for the @BETAwards but Congrats to Angel Reese and all the other Nominees [shrug emoji]. I just thought accolades mattered,' Shields tweeted.

During her time at Louisiana Stare University, Reese became a star player and was later drafted into the WNBA. Outside of women's basketball, Reese has grown into a superstar. With several brand deals, a podcast, and mentions by Cardi B and Latto, the 23-year-old has become something of an it girl.

Shields later clarified her stance, emphasizing her support for Reese: 'Ain't nobody saying Angel Reese don't have accolades or she not good…. I'm saying I thought the person with 'THE MOST' accolades and accomplishments would win the Award. I'm team Angel Reese!'

When Fleetwood missed the second putt, Bradley kicked the door down. From a three-shot lead to losing in regulation, it was over for Fleetwood. In his long PGA Tour career, Fleetwood has lost in playoffs, blown leads early in rounds, and now suffered from a brutal 72nd hole collapse. When speaking with the media afterward, he explained his feelings after the loss. 'I'm upset now, I'm angry,' Fleetwood said, per the PGA Tour's social media page. 'When it calms down, look at the things I did well and look at the things I can learn from…[I] felt like I did a lot of good things, but there are things I can definitely do better and have to do better.' Sam Reinhart made his way to the stage on Fort Lauderdale Beach on top of Brad Marchand's shoulders, pumping his fist and firing up a crowd of more than 200,000 Florida Panthers fans on Sunday afternoon. It was a moment long in the making. 'Certainly there's some FOMO [fear of missing out] there, but I made the right decision. I know that. Hopefully, it's something we can build towards again and I'll be there for the next one.' After coming up just short of reaching the NBA Finals this past season, they will want to substantially improve the team to give them a better chance at winning a title. It is still unclear how they will approach the trade and free agent markets. They are also still in the midst of a head coaching search, so things could look a bit different next season. Knicks could trade Josh Hart this summer If they conduct a massive trade, it could come at the cost of one or multiple core pieces. 'Hart wins out over Robinson because he's making $6.5 million more ($19.5 million versus $13 million), but also because he's less of an anomaly. Nobody else on the roster brings Robinson's combination of size, interior deterrence, offensive rebounding and (when healthy) mobility.' Advertisement Hart is one of the more impactful players on the roster, but it became clear that his fit in the starting five was wonky. He wasn't aggressively looking to score, which allowed teams to throw their big man on him since he wasn't much of a threat to score. Hart must be traded only for a clear upgrade This, in turn, hurt the Knicks' floor spacing, as there wasn't enough offensive aggression from him to help open up the floor. The Knicks are looking to take the next step towards winning a championship, and doing so comes at the cost of making tough decisions.
