Toddler succumbs to injuries three days after Muar highway crash
MUAR: A two-year-old girl who was injured in a two-vehicle crash on the North-South Expressway on May 26 succumbed to her injuries three days later.
She was one of four occupants in a car that was involved in a crash with a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV), in an accident that was captured in a video which later went viral on social media.
She died while receiving treatment at the Muar Hospital.
A 14-second clip uploaded on X showed the MPV ramming into the rear of the car at Km144.9 northbound, causing it to spin out of control before crashing into metal barriers.
Muar district police chief Assistant Commissioner Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz said initial investigations showed that the MPV driver, who was heading north from Johor, lost control and rammed into the rear of the car, causing it to veer off the road and crash into a guardrail.
All four occupants in the Saga were rushed to the hospital.
However, the toddler succumbed to her injuries without regaining consciousness on May 28.
Raiz said the MPV driver tested negative for alcohol and drugs. The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
He urged eyewitnesses to contact Inspector Siti Ayu Mohamad Japri at 010-7724850 or report to the Muar Traffic Police to assist in the investigation.
Meanwhile, in a separate accident in Seri Alam, a 21-year-old man was killed when the motorcycle he was riding crashed into a road median at Km7.4 of Jalan Permas–Pasir Gudang early this morning.
The victim is believed to have lost control of his motorcycle at 3.30am before crashing into the median. He died on the spot from severe head injuries.

"In the crash, two motorcyclists and one pillion rider died at the scene, while another individual was injured. The car's driver and passengers were unharmed," she said. She said that the bodies of the three victims, all 19, were sent to the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital (HSB) for post-mortem. "The injured victim was sent to the same hospital for treatment. ALOR SETAR: A day that was supposed to bring joy in anticipation of Hari Raya Aidiladha turned into a tragedy when three students from the National Youth Skills Institute (IKBN) in Jitra were killed in an accident at KM49.4 of the North-South Expressway, heading south from Alor Setar, on Thursday (June 5), Sinar Harian reports. The Malay language daily reported that in the 2,10pm incident, all the victims were on two motorcycles, travelling back to their respective hometowns to celebrate Hari Raya Aidiladha. All the victims, aged 19, are believed to have collided with an multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) before the fatal accident occurred. The deceased have been identified as Muhamad Habil Mohd Sobri from Gurun; Muhammad Fahmi Jam from Jeniang, Sik; and Muhamad Arif Aifan Derani from Bukit Selambau, Sungai Petani. Another friend sustained serious injuries due to the collision.
