Former HBCU coach found dead under suspicious circumstances
Former HBCU basketball coach Samuel Jackson has been found dead in Atlanta after being reported missing earlier in the week.
Jackson, who coached eight seasons at Fort Valley State, was reported missing on Monday after he never returned home from his job driving Uber. His car was located later that day in Bon Air. The car was unlocked and with items scattered about the seats and floorboard, according to investigative reports.
His wife, Jill Jackson, told WGXA that he went to Dollar General on Sunday night while working. She said she got a text around 2 AM from the former coach, who was usually home around midnight. The text messaged asked his wife if she knew his social security number. The next morning a missing person report was filed and police located his silver BMW later that day.
It is not clear if foul play is suspected in his death at this time, as an investigation is still ongoing.
Samuel Jackson coached at the Division II HBCU from 2011 through 2018. He led Fort Valley State to a 21-9 record during the 2013-14 and led the team to the SIAC championship game that season. He resigned in 2018.
The 59-year-old was a 2019 Henry County (GA) Sports Hall of Fame member who graduated from Headland High School in 1982 and served as a coach for the Rams basketball team for two seasons from 2020-22.

Motorcyclist in critical condition after crash
A motorcyclist is in a critical condition in hospital after a crash in Grimsby on Saturday afternoon, Humberside police said. Officers said a pillion passenger also sustained serious injuries and was receiving treatment in hospital. Former NFL player Kelvin Joseph facing charges after crash that killed motorcyclist
DALLAS -- Former NFL player Kelvin Joseph is facing charges for his involvement in a crash that killed a female motorcyclist on a Dallas-area freeway, The Dallas Morning News reported. Police in the Dallas suburb of Richardson said on social media that Joseph, who has been playing in the United Football League this spring, called police in Plano, another Dallas suburb, to report his involvement in the predawn crash Saturday. The 25-year-old Joseph, who was driving a BMW, was arrested on charges of driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor, and collision involving personal injury or death, a second-degree felony. Police said 27-year-old Cody Morris of Plano was killed in the crash. Joseph was drafted by the Cowboys in 2021 and spent two seasons with them before he was traded to Miami. He also played briefly for Seattle and Indianapolis. The cornerback has been playing for the DC Defenders, who were set to play in a UFL conference championship game Sunday. The UFL said in a statement sent to Dallas TV station WFAA that it was aware of Joseph's arrest but declined further comment. During the 2022 offseason with the Cowboys, Joseph was the passenger in an SUV from which two people fired shots into a group of men in Dallas, fatally striking one of the men in the head. Police concluded Joseph wasn't the shooter, and the NFL didn't suspend him. An attorney who previously represented Joseph didn't return a phone call from The Dallas Morning News. It wasn't immediately clear whether Joseph had an attorney following his arrest Saturday.

Jackson groups advocate for gun violence victims
JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – June is recognized as Gun Violence Awareness Month. Jackson Moms Demand Action and Survivor Connect joined forces on Saturday to hold a Gun Violence Awareness Rally in the capital city. A memorial walk was held followed by testimonies. Krishaun Muldrow, leader of Survivor Connect, said being a survivor of gun violence encouraged her told hold the event. 'Four years ago, I was shot multiple times, and I didn't think I was going to make it. And when I was recovering, I didn't have really a support system. So, I wear orange to be the person that I needed,' Muldrow said. She said gun violence happens everyday and affects may people. 'Every day people are sitting in their homes triggered in trauma, by trauma of the sound of gun violence and whatnot. And nobody's talking about it. Nobody's talking about the affect afterwards that the people have to live and heal from,' Muldrow stated.
