Rooney, Schepers, Philips named PWHL's three stars of the week
TORONTO – Ottawa Charge goaltender Gwyneth Philips, Minnesota Frost goaltender Maddie Rooney and forward Liz Schepers have been named the PWHL's three stars of the week.
Philips capped her standout rookie campaign with 36 saves in a 2–1 overtime loss in Game 4 of the Walter Cup final on Monday, earning the Ilana Kloss Playoff MVP award despite the Charge dropping the best-of-five series.
She led all post-season goaltenders with a 1.23 goals-against average and a .952 save percentage, following a regular season where she posted a 2.11 GAA and .919 save percentage.
The 24-year-old started the season as Emerance Maschmeyer's backup before the latter went down with a lower-body injury in mid-March.
Rooney was stellar on the other side, making 33 saves in Minnesota's title-clinching win to finish the playoffs undefeated at 5–0. She turned aside 30 or more shots in three straight games for the first time in her career, closing the post-season with a 1.75 GAA and .932 save percentage — both third among playoff goalies.

Schepers scored the overtime winner on Monday to secure a second straight Walter Cup for the Frost. The 26-year-old's goal was her only point of the playoffs and came on her lone shot in Game 4.

ERIN, Wis. (AP) — Maja Stark continued the steady play she had demonstrated all week to win the U.S. Women's Open and claim her first major championship Sunday at Erin Hills. Stark carded a final round 72 and finished with a four-round total of 7-under 281 to beat top-ranked Nelly Korda and Japan's Rio Takeda by two strokes. Mets get homers from Alonso, Lindor and Soto to finish 3-game sweep with 5-3 win over Rockies
NEW YORK (AP) — Francisco Lindor once again homered in a victory and Clay Holmes threw a career-high seven innings Sunday as the New York Mets completed a three-game sweep of the Colorado Rockies with a 5-3 win. Pete Alonso hit a three-run shot and Juan Soto also went deep as the Mets won for the seventh time in eight games to finish a 7-2 homestand. They regained sole possession of first place in the NL East, moving a game ahead of Philadelphia. The Rockies lost their eighth straight and fell to 9-50, the worst record through 59 games of any major league team in the modern era (since 1901). They have been swept 10 times in 20 series — tied for the most sweeps through 20 series with the 1962 Mets, the 1970 Milwaukee Brewers and the 1994 Oakland Athletics. Alonso homered in the fourth before Lindor snapped a 3-all tie an inning later. The Mets have won the last 26 games in which Lindor has homered, the second-longest streak in big league history behind the 29-game run authored by Carl Furillo and the Brooklyn Dodgers from 1951-53. Soto connected in the eighth to make it 5-3. Holmes (5-3) gave up three hits — including Orlando Arcia's first-inning solo homer and Tyler Freeman's two-run shot in the fifth. Hamilton passed by Leclerc and Hulkenberg in another low point since joining Ferrari
MONTMELO, Spain (AP) — Lewis Hamilton's frustrating debut season with Ferrari hit a new low point during the Spanish Grand Prix on Sunday. A sixth-placed finish wasn't bad, even for a seven-time world champion. But Hamilton again finished behind teammate Charles Leclerc, who was third, and had to endure his team telling him to get out the way for Leclerc. Hamilton was blocking the much faster Leclerc over several early laps until the team order came over the radio. Worse was to come near the end, however, when Nico Hulkenberg overtook Hamilton in his Sauber. Hamilton said his car was unbalanced.
